      After WWII the US Debt declined year-in year-out for decades through Republican and Democratic administrations from about 110% of GDP at the end of WWII to 30% of GDP by the time of Reagan's election. Then, on January 20 1981, Ronald Reagan was inaugurated on a promise to eliminate the national debt (which was unnecessary at the time) by CUTTING TAXES, that was where it all fell apart. Since that time, up until today, Republican's matra is "cut taxes, cut taxes, cut taxes....." even until today when the one thing you can count on Trump to do is CUT TAXES. The data is available, 90% of the explosion in debt from 30% of GDP in 1981 to 120% of GDP now was accumulated under Republican presidents.

  • @thepragmaticfarmer6308
    @thepragmaticfarmer6308 8 дней назад +1

    It is astounding how many people actually believe if we just cut welfare, education and a few other discretionary budgets we would suddenly be on the road to a budget surplus. There are only two ways the US can get out of this mess. First, cut off Americans at their knees and completely gut social security and medicare while making dramatic cuts to military spending. This would cripple a majority of Americans and make things unbearably uncomfortable for ALOT of people. Second, hold the top 5% accountable and make them pay their fair share while also holding the legislative branch accountable to making more strategic budget cuts and stop feeding contractors with inflated payments. Instead of the CEOs and shareholders getting 5 vacation homes they might only get 4 while the rest of America can still get groceries and pay rent. Cutting spending alone is not going to solve anything and tariffs are giant leap to absolutely nowhere.

      No, because it’s a meme, and it’s not an actual government department, which would require an act of Congress and Senate confirmation of the department heads. It’s just an advisory panel within the White House in actuality, Trump just called it that because it would be funny on X because of the crypto reference.

      It's messed up that you fear it's messed up. But hat's where we are now. You are absolutely correct. People are either too dumb to understand or just being disingenuous if they believe if we just make some cuts to discretionary spending that we'll even make even a dent in the deficit and government spending. We need to reduce spending AND collect revenue. The last time we had a budget surplus was during Clinton's second term. He handed Bush a balanced budget with surplus. It was achieved by cutting spending AND collecting revenue. The middle class is and has been paying their fair share while the top 5% contribute nothing they have now been elected to establish a aristocratic oligarchy to make sure it stays that way.
