Many thanks for posting this wonderful performance; their gifts as musicians are so different and yet they make such a magical, loose sound together! It's a shame that so few of their concerts have surfaced. Any chance that #2 will appear?
I'm amazed he continued performing here.I saw him a few years ago, and was filming one of his songs on a tiny, camera at the back of the room, not being intrusive at all...He stopped in the middle of his performance and yelled at me to stop filming. In a most unpleasant manner..I wanted the earth to swallow me up, as it was so very unnecessary to have caused such an unpleasant scene..At the end of the gig, I was walking out of the room and he came chasing after me to apologise for his actions, whilst grabbing hold of my hand.Probably one of the most weird and unpleasant experiences I have ever encountered.
Hi Luna I have had that happen once or twice but in this case i Knew John from many recordings i did and always sent him a copy as for Robin i was refused permission to record once and so playing with John it seemed it was okay and i was so pleased to record it but i can relate to how you must have felt - regards Ron
Hi Ron. Thank you for your reply. Yes, not nice at all, such artists should remember that it's only the fans who still attend such small venues that keep them going. I would never go and see him again:(
I met John twice and he was really nice, but the second time, a couple of years before he passed, I noticed that when I mentioned I have lived in Devon, he became strangely guarded and completely evaded the issue. I remembered that a neighbour of mine, also a Devonian, had known John when they both went to Dartington and he was less than impressed with John on a personal level during that period. My feeling was that John had gone through a bad patch around that time, no more than that. His music is so amazing, with goodheartedness oozing from it, mixed with pure genius. One of the true greats of a great period in musical history, up there with Lennon and McCartney. What I'm saying is that we all have periods where things get on top of us and we might vent it on others, but it shouldn't be what we are remembered for.
The Inpenetrable String Tangle.
It's lovely that he sings a Mike's song
What a pleasure to be in touch with these two beloved musicians and artists!
WOW And yes the Magic still Flows thanks for the post
