Freddie Foreman - The Krays: Why Jack The Hat Was Killed

- Freddie Foreman blows the lid on one of the biggest stories in British crime, The Krays murder of Jack "The Hat" McVitie. Freddie tells us how Jack was a loose cannon who eventually actually grassed himself up to the The Krays...leading to his brutal murder.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Early Life
Born at 22 Sheepcote Lane, Battersea in March 1932 to Herbert Albert Foreman, an Irishman. 22 Sheepcote Lane was a terraced two-up and two-down house, sharing a bedroom with four of his brothers, situated nearby The Flag pub. Foreman was involved in violence from a young age. He was known for his involvement with audacious criminal plans, one of which was the murder of Frank 'The Mad Axeman' Mitchell - a British criminal previously befriended by Ronnie Kray when they served a sentence together at Wandsworth prison.
Criminal activity
Foreman was involved in the Shoreditch Security Express robbery of 1983, which at the time was the largest cash robbery in the UK. For his part in it, he received nine years in prison. At the time of the Kray's arrest, he was thirty-six, and licensee of The Prince Of Wales, Lant Street in Southwark
Foreman also confessed to the murders of Frank "Mad Axeman" Mitchell, and of Tommy "Ginger" Marks in the 1960s in revenge for the shooting of his brother (shot in the legs). He had been acquitted of the murders at an Old Bailey trial in the 1960s where he was listed as living at Red Post Hill, Dulwich, London. He additionally claimed to have intimidated witnesses to the killing of George Cornell in the Blind Beggar Pub in Whitechapel by Ronnie Kray and to having been a hitman for the Kray twins.
Arrest and conviction
He was tried on two separate occasions for murder, and found not guilty, and has convictions for handling the proceeds of an armed robbery and separately for disposing of a body, that of Jack "the Hat" McVitie. Foreman also admitted to the murders of Frank "Mad Axeman" Mitchell, and of Tommy "Ginger" Marks during the 1960s in his autobiography, Respect, in revenge for the shooting of his brother who had been shot in the legs. He had been acquitted of these murders at an Old Bailey trial in the 1960s. Foreman moved to Spain after he left prison.
Later life
He is the father of actor Jamie Foreman, Gregory Foreman and Danielle Foreman. In 2018, a biopic documentary "Fred" was released. Foreman’s team approached Salon after seeing its work on underworld documentary “The Guv’nor,” and subsequent movie “My Name is Lenny.” Rather than glamorizing Foreman’s life of crime, “Fred” is a somber and intimate look at the notorious villain towards the end of his life. “Fred” was written, and is directed by, Salon’s Paul Van Carter.
In 2019 Gangster No 1 - The Freddie Foreman Story was released, a documentary casting Foreman as The Godfather" of Britain's criminal underworld.
Gangsters in 2021 gets offended by a mean tweet and has an anxiety attack.
Yes they do and then they kill quicker than the old boys these new kids that get annoyed over mean tweets and anxiety
That’s what I was saying! Place todays self proclaimed gangsters into a street with the Krays they’d shit themselves 😂
They're not gangsters, Freddie is the real deal, gangsters were gentlemen with manners dignity and integrity and they earned the respect they got.
@@BevBilt exactly. People like Freddie and the Krays were gangsters who had business. These “gangsters” are kids who run around with knives because they can’t use their fist.
How lovely to hear Freddie Forman talking about times gone by. He is a real Gentleman.
I don't really like gangsters however I could listen to this man all day, great raconteur. 👍
Freddie Foreman was a true criminal with integrity as far as it goes. But in terms of being dangerous he made the Krays look like kids; but he used discretion and common sense. He didn’t big himself up and play at it, he just did the job.
Some say, he's 8ft tall and when he farts lightning bolts come from his arse.
@@0000deer Okay; but would you have had the guts to say that to his face in his heyday. I suggest you may have ended up propping up the M40/A40; or worse.
@@iantaylor7840 pmsl, there's always one and this time it's you......congrats
Grew up reading all the books
What a strange sense of what integrity is, the bloke was a cold blooded killer....people didn't respect him, they were afraid of him
Nice interview. Subscribed.
Out of all those old boys, Fred's the main man.
Legit old school man with old school principles.
It's a shame to think If you mentioned principles to a lot of these so-called crooks today,
they'd think you were talking about a clothes brand.
Jack the Hat had too much mouth and too many drugs the silly sod signed his own death warrant .
Fuck me so anyone who told the Kaays what assholes they were deserved to die ?

I asked Frankie Fraser about this. He said that Jack used to be a top guy (they were in prison together) he said that once he got into drink and drugs in a big was he became a menace and a big mouth.
You asked Frankie Fraser? Course you did! 😂😂😂

Not the kind of life that I would want to have I live a boring life but at my age of sixty nine years old I'm still alive

Yeah I have a boring life as well but at least I’m still alive these guys have a short intense life they either end up dead or in prison

Some of my family worked for the krays old man. They were in cohorts with certain crooked police and they also friends with the Richardson's.

If both the main Kray movies are any guide, McVitie was a total numpty.
Yeah he seems to have standards even though he was in that game...... He has brains for a villan....
Impressive individual.
Sorry but you have to explain his one please? What standards are you talking about?
It seems to me that you believe the " he would only hurt his own kind of person and he would go and have a cup of tea with his mum every night"
@@0000deer bert i suppose what i meant was in that world he has some degree of not being evil for the sake of it im not condoning it but he isnt a psycho like the krays or richardsons.......
@@robmccutcheon1930 I wonder if you would have said that if your grandfather was a security man in the back of a van while the old gentleman robber with morals put a gun in his face? Or if one of your family members were doused in petrol so his gang could open a safe?

@@0000deer quite right fair comment
My aunties , nans sisters sons brother in law , knew a bloke whose aunties sister's husband drove for the krays, .....if I had a pound note 😂😂😂😂
It’s amoral but, in a sense, I don’t care what these genre of people (villains, gangsters etc.) do to each other; they chose that life no matter how impoverished they had been and should expect the consequences. Unfortunately, the vast majority of their actions had negative consequences for the rest of the population. Got caught? Sent to prison and who pays for that? Police dedicated to chasing them down? Who pays those wages? Steal from a bank? Who ends up paying higher bank charges or higher insurance rates?
The only positive thing that I have to say is at least most of this genre are honest about what they are and what they do. We have other groups of people such politicians and bankers who also are completely untrustworthy and self-seeking who do not admit that they are as evil as the gangsters.
Politicians never killed anyone? Try telling that to the families of service people killed, for instance, in Afghanistan during a conflict which had no overall objective and was ordered in moments of revenge. They cant even resource the military people. We have a serving son and he has to buy some of the clothing that he requires; they are also several restricted on live ammunition that they can use for training. Going to the USA for training with their troops, showed our son how badly they are restricted in comparison to the American soldiers; only in the training games did the British come out on top.
Respect to your son, our army and emergency services must come first but I'm afraid our country as gone to the pits
Government has ruined the country I rather be polish .
As Churchill once said, Anyone who goes to fight in a war and risks their lives without Any reward or gain is just Shite and doesn't deserve any special considerations.
This was told to me by an old royal navy rating who overheard the drunken Churchill reply when Eisenhower asked Churchill if the British soldier would be prepared to take risks and fight during the D Day landings as he was comparing how little the British soldiers were paid compared to the American ones.
Let this be an education for all.
@@Hoxton66 I don’t quite know what you mean by government. This current government; the last one or all governments since, let’s say, 1945? I’m afraid that we really have to blame, ultimately, the results of democracy. When each of us votes, we each have our own reasons to vote for this or that; we have listened to their promises and yet, apparently, either do not learn that they lie or, perhaps, we vote for the least worst option.
If I dare to take the Brexit referendum as an example. Cameron only agreed to a referendum because he had to rally in some internal rebellion and he was sure (read the accounts at the time) that the Remain vote would prevail. So each side, regardless of their political persuasion, commenced the most virulent campaigns in which each sought to get our vote by telling bigger and bigger lies - as example the Remain told us that the economy, our jobs, our prosperity, the safety of the Realm were doomed if we left; whilst the Leavers promised us an extra £345 million per week into the NHS instead of paying that sum to the EU. As we know, neither has the economy collapsed (at least not from Brexit); the Realm remains un-invaded; the NHS never got the extra £345 million per week etc. etc. So, we can see that we had lies to the left of us; lies to the right and we were stuck in the middle with you. How can you blame people for voting in or out; we never knew what was truth and what was lies.
So, we have ended up with Boris Johnson. A man whose wife could never trust him - but we are expected to trust him. Search for the interview that Eddie Maier did with Johnson before he became PM; that showed what a nasty, vindictive, untrustworthy person he is. At the time, of course, we could have chosen Jeremy Corbin and his great friend Dianne Abbott; and I believe there used to be something called Liberal Democrats.
Democracy. A system that is flawed that is only used because every other system is far, far worse.
The only time I have needed a translator from English to English.
Why?
Freddie foreman was a genuine legend which is more than what can be said about the krays.even the Richardson's respected Freddie.
The Krays just dumped Jack's body on one of his clubs doorsteps ,involving him.freddie is well respected throughout the underworld .the krays were happy to drag anyone down with them and were terrible businessmen.
How on earth can a murdering thug ever be called a legend?
@@honestchris7472 freddie killed the man who shot his brother in the bollocks.in the underworld he has to retaliate or lose face ,that's just the way it is.but amongst his fellow underworld peers he was very respected and earned their respect.
@@bobjohn1234 are you for real? "fellow underworld peers" "respected" "earned their respect" do you honestly think that these dangerous, anti social thugs, thieves and misfits deserve that? I personally would have loved to see the lot of these types of people locked up and never ever released.
@@honestchris7472 If they deserve it or not is besides the point they got respect from people. They don't care if the average joe doesn't like them or respect them because to them your just a civilian.
@@michaelhorne4742 That is not respect that they got, it was fear because of their awful brutish method of getting what they want from life. Most are really awful people and although they may not care that the average Joe does not like or respect them, the average Joe would get exactly the same treatment from them if necessary as they have often shown when they commit robberies. These people are in fact just scum and ruin the lives of decent people. They deserve no respect at all.

Of all the old villains that tell their tales, Fred seems to be the most believable. But this story dont make sense. He saiad Reg was in his club, near the front door. Jack The Hat tried to get in, and shot the front door??? I dont know how big the club was, but surely a gun going off would have been heard from many streets away, let alone by the people in the club. Did that not make Reg Kray think! Who is shooting up my club? And then try to find out?
