this skin could have never been the best one because it's the one they were least passionate about - it's the only aphelios skin without scarf physics, and it doesn't even change color depending on the equipped weapon. it's very obvious this skin was an afterthought, crammed into the skinline because sett was getting a legendary.
in my honest opinion, aphelios is one of the champions who has the most beautiful skins, change my mind.

Heartsteel Aphelios is great skin imo. I love how much actually Heartsteel as whole concept give him personality. But yeah I'm really hoping for a legendary or even ultimate skin that will be changing his outfits with each weapon. Like imagine (that's my personal concept and more of a example of what I want to say) Blood Moon Aphelios ultimate/legendary skin each weapon symbolize moon phases and is changing his outfit getting more red more dark with next weapon and when he ults it's the full blood moon. Like reversed night bringer skin concept where Alune is the spirit of order and Phel is the spirit of chaos but here Phel is the moon and Alune is the symbol of red/blood moon red light/color. And plot twist when using the ult the twins says something in their lunari language in unison. So yeah what you said Aphelios is already a pretty boy but focus on his wepons when designing skins for him and build the skin around them. ( I hope what I said makes sense)

Idk but I personally love almost every Aphelios skin. The only one I don't like at all is the Nightbringer. But my fav is now between SB and Heartsteel

As a spirit blossom lover I have to say I LOVE SB Aphelios!
Aphelios; to me I think his best skin is for once is the world's skin. I mean the EDG skinline has been my favorite world's skins. The problem with aphelios and his skins is that he doesn't really look like the skilled character whose mastered the weapons that he holds. And I think that's what edg aphelios does well. His hair isn't too over the top and it doesn't fall for the "aphelios is hot so he has to be thirst trap". Where to me although it worked for spirit blossom because almost all the skins were that way.
I can't say it's warranted the best skin.

I appreciate that you make very clear that it’s all just your Opinion, but then you also point out enough elements that showcase Good character design that I can totally respect where you’re coming from and actually learn about Character Design myself. I remembered an argument some guy made about Aphelios not having a legendary skin because it would be hard for the artists who make skins because he's too "unique" what an absolute goofy take
The weapons feel a bit lost among all the noise on the in-game model, but I haven't seen it from the actual in-game perspective to really tell.
Tbh i dont like this skin because it is kinda visually cluttered in game to me. Id rather take the classic skin

Like I know they probably cant get licensing for someone like Doom Guy, but why not make him the cheesiest dorkiest soldier from an FPS that pulls 1000 guns out of... somewhere?
Or someone like the soldier in Borderlands that has a cheesy punchline when he drops his turret.

Double down on his emo vibes and put him in a black trenchcoat with tight black boots with small heels on em to keep his oddly feminine vibe and add some infernal detailing on the shoulders or the tails of the coat
design alune as more of a demonic, dark shadow goddess theme and package phel as a sort of gunslinger warlock. (Percy de rolo meets joker from persona 5)
Changing the colours of his flamethrower fire with black and red, his several q functioning like a fan the hammer sort of animation, and maybe give him some sort of visual change with each rank in his R similar to pulsefire ezreal so by the late game he looks terrifying with overwhelming crits with satisfying impact animations, just a random idea off the top of my head

as an aphel main who's favorite esports player is viper i absolutely adore edg aph. but i absolutely agree, none of his skins are amazing and i personally thought his heartsteel skin was the weakest out of all of the skinline

I feel like Aphelios needs a legendary skin or a really clever joke-skin to make each gun truly stand out and feel distinct and visually unique from one another.

Beast tamer skin where each gun is a monster that he’s tamed and in the emotes they come together like exodia to make a single monster
His base skin is kinda that already since all his weapons are inspired by a targonian animal spirit from the spirit realm
I guess Lunar Beast is going to be his worst even if i really enjoy it
This is pretty much how I feel about it. This is his best skin , but it's only because it has no competition. All the other skins are just waaaay too over the top and end up being kinda visual vomit.
It's hard to work in the colors and effects of the weapons in an identifiable AND pleasing manner. I think the desaturated but still colorful hues of this skin do it best, but it's still very much over done.
I think Phel really just needs a skin where he himself is kinda plain-jane aside from his iconic scarf thing, and then almost all the personality should be given to the weapons.
Something kinda ethereal or intangible would make the best skin. That way the design can make Aphelios dark or dull - basically a background character - while the weapons are the stars.
I would honestly love to see an Arcana skin, but instead of him being based on major arcana he could be based on minor arcana - specifically the five of swords which allows for each "sword" to be one of his weapons, but also fits him as being in a sort of eternal conflict as well.
On a goofier note, maybe a dragon tamer skin? Could literally just be a variety of How to Train You Dragon-esque critter designs for his weapons. That would almost certainly be a higher tier skin though if they were to be animated properly to sell the theme.
I feel like the biggest issue with alhelios skins is that riot seems so afraid to change what he is wearing, like in all of his skins he has a big lapel, and those two little "scarf" tails on either side. Like if they made a skin that actually changes his profile a bit I think it would make room for a way more interesting design.
You can read why in his design blog when he came out I believe. It's basically because when they were designing him and throwing out his silhouette vs other ADCs the way the scarf sharpened his shoulders and draped down ended up being pm his most identifying trait on a glance-value basis.
I would suggest them not having to always make it cloth looking or always bright. Like it could be a cult scroll for a coven-style skin, or a bandolier in one of the western skinlines, or like missile racks for a mecha/project type skin.
I think that a zombie slayer Aphelios would be cool. There it would make sense for him having multiple weapons, as he has to grab whatever he has available to defend himself. Kind of like Dead Rising
Also most importantly spirit blossom ApheliosXSett is the most important part of this skin

I know you're not usually big on like elemental skins and such but I think I'd really like to see a water themed skin for him, maybe use the Dark Waters skinline or smth, just so it can play into the constantly shifting weapon forms and stuff

Imagine the others convincing him to spend a day out at the beach in the sun (which i would imagine he would hate) because they told him they were gonna have a watergun fight, which he takes too seriously and shows up with 5 waterguns 😂

If they do give them a pool party skin i have an idea that could be funny since aphelios and alune are all about the moon and darkness it'd be funny if in their beach skin they are avoiding and are prepared for the Sunburn like there is no tomorrow so give them a full body wet suit, beach shoes and turn their face markings into excessive amount of suncream and give them big hats and sunglasses

I'd like an aphelios skin that really changes his whole tone and flavour and makes his weapons really stand out from his base design. Like a vandal or scrap themed skin, turning his weapons into an actual flamethrower made from junk or an old sawblade for his chakram. Something to turn this perfect prettyboy into a gritty brute

Counterpoint, lunar beast has the best looking weapons, with the green gun looking like a proper rifle, which are the most important part of Aphelios.

i always wanted Diana on this skin line , I think the lunaries - solaries are made for this . the sun and moon in SBU should expand the lore. someday I want anime from this AU.

A way to do something interesting would be to make the weapons *part* of the outfit as opposed to just weapons he puts on his back and in his hands.
Something like the scythe pistol and chakram being built into the legs, flamethrower and sniper built into the arms, gravity gun the chest piece or something. Show which two weapons he has currently by having him pull them off his own armor or something

You know what aphelio skin would be cool? Commando. Just make his guns actual real life guns. A bolt action sniper, a scimitar, a grenade launcher, a pump action shotgun and some spiked boomerangs. Take my idea for free I just want to see it

I love the weapons idea for his here, since it's all themed about Ionian culture and nature bending for you but it all falls flat to le the moment you realize he's a Moon Spirit and it just doesn't really connect QQ
yeah, him being a moon spirit kinda fails the whole design. They could have easily made it a "what-if" skin, where it's just Aphelios but from Ionia instead of Targon. If anything he should be calling upon the other spirit skins lol

If ultimate skins weren't a complete joke now I bet aphelios could've have gotten some kick ass ultimate skin where his model changes as he swaps guns
This might be a controversial take but I think his Esports skin is his best. Simply because it makes him look more like a Lunari while avoiding the pitfall like Diana and looking too monochrome. I like the “Japanese pop star” aesthetic of his base design but it doesn’t fit into Runeterra well for me.
I personally....don't really like this one it's cool other people do but for me....with the sheer amount of stuff all over the skin, the color set become HELLA busy and disruptive for me to look at.
It seems like, to me, that the spirit blossom skin was designed after his weapons were designed first, because you can see each weapon represented in his design in some way. I think that’s why the skin looks very cluttered imo
Pulsefire aphelios in LoR is my favourite just cause of alune being present in combat with him.
Ultimate skin idea for Aphelios. Set him in a Sci-fi future but his guns all can talk with their own distinct personalities but they're all still honestly annoying shit talkers that never shut up and he can't say anything in retaliation since he can't talk. But you get the sense of his annoyance with them because they all have voice lines that go along the lines of "why you lookin at me like that?" after they say something really dumb or obnoxious.
Imo base aphelios is his only good skin. Which is kinda ironic tbh
