Lot of reference to his 2021 form and that finals series he had but we are about to enter 2025 three seasons on and his form and lack of play time or being an integral part of the team doesn't really warrant a whole lot more than a first rounder

  • @scottmcnaughton539

I understand the point of Dixon, but not the one of Montagna. Yes Geelong have said they want him, but it won't be at overs, he's not that type of player. Danger & Cameron are players you mortgage your future for. Not Smith, a player who for multiple reasons hasn't had an elite season in 3yrs. St Kilda aren't in a position where it is worth the risk. A one and done deal makes them worse over a 4-5yr period. GWS is a different story, they could get the benefit of a one and done because they are in a win now mentality.
Also to say late picks don't mean anything, have you seen Geelong's list? It is full of late picks who are regular senior players, i.e. the last pick they had last year - Humphreys.

I agree that Geelong has to pay a lot more for Smith. OK. Now if he went through to the National Draft then if I was St Kilda or Essendon then I would automatically draft Smith. Why? Because both St Kilda & Essendon badly need elite midfielders. OK.

So much hate (ie jealousy) of the Cats & their success. WHy? Tall poppy/grubby socialist mindset it seems.
Their success wasn't given to them on a platter like the expansion clubs or cellar dwellers getting $$$ & numerous top picks thrown at them, but earned over 2 decades no less, thru hard work, planning, professional appointments across all levels, team 1st mindset, family club culture (proven with charitable actions not meaningless words), creative thinking (recruiting mature aged when it was unheard of (eg Podsiadly), internationals (eg Ireland), different sports (runners/steeple chasers/basket ballers, etc), & left fielders from obscure amateur clubs; players accept much lower contracts for the sake of the team, inventing new strategies, envied player development system, great off field culture & lifestyle, rescued self-imploded players, etc etc.
People forget that when cats won in 07 it ended yrs of slow boring defensive footy (eg Syd) everyone was complaining about, with the cats fats running, highly skilled techniques to blast thru the defensive mindsets of the day. Cats made footy exciting again. You're welcome!
And teh cats have managed to stay near the top ever since despite the marxist equalization measures by developing low ranked players no one wanted.
Too many Ausies are low class socialists enamored with the freebie lazy mindset & hate of anyone clearly better than they are.
