Ik mocht een AM5 lenen van Ganymedes om er een video review van te maken. Na een half jaar - en een handjevol heldere nachten - kon ik eindelijk deze video afronden.

I got an AM5 on loan from Ganymedes in order to create a video review. After six months - and only a few clear nights - I was finally able to complete this video.

Thank your for the subtitles. I have a C8 SCT (non HD) with Celestron OAG. It's been a year since this video. Is your AM5 still performing as well with your 9.25" SCT? Now that the AM5N with better PE specifications,

Thanks. Translation subtitles worked a treat 👍 Will be interested to follow how you get on using your heavier rig with the AM5. I still worry about OAG and 0.5s-1 sec exposures in long focal length set ups but you seem to have past that hurdle. Your set up is tempting me to go for wide field imaging!
Using the ASI174MM mini in the Celestron OAG I even get guiding working at f/10.
@@KopLamp cool. I use the ZWO OAG and asi220mm with less success at F/7 😉
I first had a 290MM mini for the OAG, but noticed I really had to carefully prep a session to see whether or not I would have a sufficiently bright star in the FOV of my guide camera on both sides of the meridian. With the 174MM mini I didn’t have trouble finding a guidestar yet.
Great video, I really like the recording of the sound difference. The EQ6-R Pro has a similar loudness difference to the AM5. Concerning about the strap strength! I haven't used the strap to carry it, but disappointing it is prone to failure.
Just a few nights ago, the little strap that is attached to the hand controller failed. I might have strained it when I used the hand controller while it hang on the Azitmuth bolts. Was fixable though.
Having said that, the mount itself is very well built.
Thanks, so you could use this unbalance as a best position on the rail? To say that if it balanced and you have it horizontal then pull the power if it does not move/rotate your close to balance enough?
Indeed. Although the harmonic drive system has enough torque to overcome unbalance. The biggest concern regarding balance is not tipping the entire rig over. That is also the only need for a counterweight, once you reach a certain payload weight.
Ik was vorige week nog bij Ganymedes en kreeg alleen een vette rekening 😜
Ik mag toch aannemen dat er als dank voor de vette rekening ook prachtige apparatuur mee naar huis mocht?

In your opinion how does the Celestron AVX mount compare to the AM5? Is the AM5 a lot nicer?
I have no experience with the AVX. what I can share is that I really like the AM5 for its compactness and strength. No more fiddling with balance. No need for heavy counter weights (mostly).
You will need proper guiding.

Wat jouw Edge 8 betreft, moest ik van jou zijn dan zou ik het zaakje nog eens wegen, ik kom namelijk op 13,5kg uit voor mijn Edge HD8, reducer, oag, filterdrawer, asi2600mc, mini computer en Ultimate powerbox, en uiteraard de zooi kabels erbij die trouwens allen op maat zijn gemaakt zodat ik geen extra gewicht of rommel moet maken.
Laatste keer dat ik het gewogen heb kwam ik op 9 kilo en nog een beetje uit. En toen gebruikte ik nog een guide scope. Nu een OAG. Zou dat zwaarder zijn?
@@KopLamp Eigenaardig dat er dan zoveel verschil in gewicht zit tussen jouw setup en die van mij.
Nou ben ik echt benieuwd waar dat verschil zit zodat ik ook een idee heb om gewicht te besparen ...
Gebruik jijj Vixen of Losmandy dovetails ?
Morgen ga ik wegen. Nu niet thuis. Ik heb vixen dovetail en een heated astrozap flexshield, OAG met ASI174MM mini, ZWO filterlade en ASI294MC Pro. En uiteraard de ASIAIR Plus.
@@KopLamp Ik ben benieuwd, ik gebruik wel twee losmandy style dovetails. Mijn dewshield is wel in metaal, maar voor de rest is de setup zowat hetzelfde maar dan met de asi2600mc, owja en mijn oag is van Celestron, die weegt ook wel wat en uiteraard de reducer
Vandaag eindelijk het weegmoment. Allereerst de William Optics GT81+ reducer en filterwiel en EAF, met Losmandy dovetail, ZWO 60/280 guidescope + ASI290MM mini, en als hoofdcamera een ASI2600MM Pro.
Daarna de Celestron EdgeHD, zonder reducer, met EAF, Dauwkap en een Vixen dovetail. Filterlade, Celestron OAG en ASI174MM mini camera met als hoofdcamera een ASI294MC Pro.
De refractor weegt: 8.5 kilo.
De SCT weegt: slechts 100 gram zwaarder. 8.6 kilo! De reducer is vrij zwaar van deze telescoop, dus het onthouden gewicht was waarschijnlijk toen met reducer.
