As a 90's goth girl, Everyday is Halloween is surely a sentimental anthem, and it's a really well-crafted catchy tune, but it was bands like Bauhaus that inspired me to be a goth girl! And you might not think it, but dancing in the clubs to songs like Bela Lugosi"s Dead was a lot more fun than bopping along to Ministry's poppy anthem(cause you got to be really creative and dramatic and campy when it came to the likes of Bauhaus. It was basically a bunch of kids overdressed and overacting and freeform dancing and it was absurd and sublime!) So, I've gotta give it up to Bauhaus here.
A good, overlooked Halloween movie is The Hunger with David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve as vampires, and Bauhaus has a cameo at the start doing Bela of course. Happy Halloween all!
Yes, one of the best opening scene ever !! Peter Murphy looks awesome in the beginning of this movie !! His haircut Was so spuky and his moves are unique!!
As with your Bauhaus/Tones on Tail/Love & Rockets reactions, it could be interesting to follow Ministry's progression as well. From the early days of opening for Depeche Mode and being produced by the Psychedelic Furs' drummer, to the front man joining and being influenced by Skinny Puppy's industrial sound. Thanks for all the great reactions and song battles!
@@ReactionsToTheClassics It just hit me that night in a strange way. I asked them to play it again. They did. I was mesmerized. I never heard anything like it. So I started a band. And within a few months we opened for The Flaming Lips!
This is a crazy song battle. Both songs have a Halloween theme in the sound of the music. The first song has an unusual vibe in a weird way. Does it sound like a combination f Punk and Gothic Rock? The second song also has a vibe for this theme. It has a cool rhythm driven by unique percussion. You guys handled the comments on both songs accurately in describing it. I agree with Shawn and Trey that the winner is the second song. CSN is coming up with some interesting stuff.
In much the same way Nine Inch Nails is really the work of musical genius Trent Reznor, Ministry is Al Jourgenson. Uncle Al’s musical evolution from synth pop to industrial to thrash metal is the stuff of legend. Through it all, no one could match the swagger of Uncle Al - a genius in his own right, and perhaps the only man who could scare the shit out of a cynical, heroin addicted, Trent Reznor.
Great selections CSN. As you said Trey , Ministry started out as dancy synth pop and over the span of 5 albums transitioned to industrial dance then to industrial metal. Primary song writer Al Jourgensen also had a lot of side projects, most notably The Revolting Cocks. My vote went to Ministry.
I think what they use for the unique guitar sound on the Bauhaus video live is a small metal tube / I could be wrong ... I've cleaned for bars and I've found a few ... Peter , over the years like any actor typecast in a specific role , tried to get as far away from that song and image of the musician vampire ... But embraced it more recently , revisiting it live in combination with NIN ...
Both songs were great anthems for us freaks in the 80s. As great as Bauhaus is, our #1 anthem, the song that said it perfectly, was and is Ministry's "Everyday is Halloween". Musically, some don't groove, but I do, and lyrically, they said exactly what I was feeling.
Perhaps you know ... over the years Ministry developed into hyper testosterone / alpha male music in the 90's but their earlier stuff ; as this has a softer / dancy , more introspective side ... This song to me has a wincing lyric of a teenager whining about people making fun of outsiders for dressing different . But It's catchy good background music . I wish i had a quarter for every time I've heard it played in a club .......
You are pretty lame guys...never heard of Bauhaus or Ministry!! Meant in good humour! (Canadian spelling). Great idea on doing this head to head match...I could not pick one over the other...a tie I would say harking back to times that where music like this was truly on the margins and was not accepted in the main steam society at all...look up the years these two songs came out and what was in the top 10 at the time and how different (and better) this is.
If you liked Bauhaus more leave a thumbs up!
I dug this bonging tone that resembled the sound from the beginning credits of Kubrick's 'The Shining'.....and I am a Peter Murphy fan...
Third Uncle
If I had to choose I would go wtih Bauhaus as it's not as literal as Ministy's song .
Bauhaus influenced and inspired more overall with this song ...
Bauhaus was a far more original band and this song is from 1979, which tells a lot. The choice is obvious.

haha thanks for sharing Stella, and it sounds like FUN!
Bella Lugosi's Dead is just Freebird for goths!
lol that is a great comment!!
If you're gonna listen to Bela Lugosi's Dead it's gotta be in its full 9 minute splendor
Thanks for watching
If you didn't go into a trance when listening to Bela Lugosi's Dead, then you haven't heard it properly. ;)
haha Thanks!
Industrial dance gothic, wax trax, club culture!
Thanks for Watching!

I vaguely remember that show from way back in the day! Thanks Matthew!

Thanks so much for bring them to us! Yes sounds like MInistry had quite the progression!
Both great songs! Especially for Halloween time 🎃
True! Thanks Stephen!
This is the video (Bauhaus) that was playing over house speakers at a trippy college party that changed my career path.
haha do I dare ask how?

Yes this series is fun! Thanks Poet!
I liked them both! But Ministry got my vote!! Ministry’s song was a huge hit in the 80s, the played the hell out of it on the clubs and radio!👌😎🦇🎃😈🖤
Thanks for weighing in and checking it out!

Thanks for the insight Tony!
Both great! I really dig them both. I’m giving it to Ministry. It’s such a different song from what I’ve heard from them
Yes not at all what I expected. Thanks Br!
Ministry didn't switch from New Wave to Industrial until their 3rd album (Land of Rape and Honey).
….and is quite possibly the greatest switch in popular music history.

It was quite the surprise in a good way! Thanks Rosenfield!
Ministry fan for life 🖤
Thanks for Watching!
Halloween ❤
Thanks for Watching!
This is the single, not live. So you got the real deal.
Ok thanks for the insight and for watching!
YES!
As always Clark appreciate you checking it out!
Hmm, this is a tough choice. I really like them both and I don't want to choose. So there. Lol.
lol I wish we had that luxury sometimes! I get it!
Cool track fellas. Ut was different. Sounds a bit like Billy Idol... that's me home so Regards from Scotland 😎👌
Thanks James, stay safe in Scotland!!
