I was so pleased at end of 1993 when the depressing darkside sound of the year was over, it started to sound like 1992 again and for that I was very happy.
Thats not actually Slipmat's hand at the start. He pays a semi-professional hand model to put these records on for him. Slipmat's hands have been playing so many tunes over the years that they have been more or less worn down to painful stumps. Some say they are even beginning to take on the appearance of tone arms, even one of his now misshapen fingers is beginning to resemble a stylus. One day he may not even need a record deck. He could fashion a rudimentary sound system from just his now fully formed tone arms and rolled up newspaper for a horn speaker. True story.
It's between the SMD series or straight up just Gordon Edge's 'Compnded'... all the components are there in that one, choppy breaks, ladder pitched drums, stomping kicks, hardcore stabs, 909 claps and hats... but it's just a bit slow and from '92 so I don't imagine the majority will agree with me 😆
In 1993 Matt set up a new project with the SMD series (Slip Matt's Dubs)- Slip Matt's Dubs 1 sold around (over) 10,000 units on vinyl record pushing the then new style Happy Hardcore sound.
DJ Slipmatt played this track at a Dreamscape Event back in the year 1993, one of the longest running 1993/1994-2000s hardcore DJs DJ Dougal was with MC Magika at a Dreamscape Event back in the Year 1994 played this track tune, DJ Sy played it on Friday the 9th of April 1999 at United Dance 1999 also Club Labrynth 1991, Desire '92 Event & Helter Skelter late 1994 Hardcore hero DJ Billy Daniel Bunter played this SMD SMD 1 A track tune as 1 of 62 1993-2000s massive Hardcore Anthems on the gold selling Helter Skelter Presents Hardcore Classics cd compilation album from Ministry Of Sound 2005
2m 33s of moneumental build up, gurning like a twat at the people next to you because you knew what was coming, then the drop at 2m 34s and wherever you were the place would erupt into a wave of smiling, rushing and raving lunatics. Smd1 for me was the track of hardcore. At 45 now i miss the early to mid 90's but i have never stopped listening to these great tunes. Hardcore will never die.
Found this when i was going through my record collection the other day. Always used to call it the Chicken tune! Wish i still had the others in the series too but lost too much vinyl on my travels. Wicked tune, basically what everyone is making again at the moment.
Never knew the jungle don had the harddock bouncing every time we stepped foot in the gaffe I have such vivid memories of getting a rewind off dj demand 👊🏻👏🏻🙌🏻✌🏼😊☺️😎🎼✌🏻️🎵 an everyone going on about it in the party that night 😎 I was only about 14 happy times God bless you ye jungle don
Congress - 40 Miles / Awesome 3 - Don't Go / SMD 1A - 3 banging tunes all using the same hook. Have to say that Awesome 3 was probably my favourite but this little beauty is also great, mixed into Edge 1 Remix.
beaksters tunes I bet it’s slipmatt man Paris @ bang in tunes 91 at the eclipse It’s the best mc dj combination of all time, I still have it on every other day
A near lifelong fan of Slipmatt, to me the ultimate old skool hardcore breakbeat DJ - I loved them all (91-94 before it got too dark or fast) but if this guy was on the list I knew my mind would be blown. But this track was the one... THE one, no matter who played it or when. And there are obviously many versions, but this exact one - a guarantee that the person you were looking at while dancing when this dropped and you both knew.... (bup, yeah, bup, bup, yeah let's do it!)... that an amazing buzz was about to happen! So much love and release in those time when a tune like this came on! I've often wondered since I've got older and learned so much about tunes like this and where they came from, whether Matt and Sasha (maybe Adamski too) were aware of each other's usage of this epic Jimi Polo house track to such different but awesome effect, I guess they must have at least been professional colleagues if not mates in those times. I'm pretty sure I was once at a dance where Sasha played his mix of Better Days on the same night that Slipmatt (or someone) played SMD1A Or that could just be my dove memory....
Dude this is an epic recording sitting here with a set of 7.1 headphones on and what can I say ? It's better that when I was fannying about with my KAMS and a TANDY mixer back in the day !
followed you from dreamscaoe 8, still loving it at the grand old age of 33!.. lol.. just re-buying all the vinyl now as mine are so scratched and over played !.. what you doing now slipmatt?

Haha :)
If I'm not mistaken, this is where it all started.
Arguably the first Happy Hardcore track ever.

God Father of Rave. No one even comes close. Long live the Slipmatt.
