Everton were still a decent side in the 70s, close to the title in 74/75 (don't mention Carlisle United) and this season 77/78. At the time of this match we were still on a par with Liverpool in terms of league titles won but then they just left us behind. Apart from our brief resurgence in the mid-80s, this 1977 side was probably Everton's best since the 1960s, and arguably much underrated.
What a team of entertainers and characters we had then, Andy King, Duncan Mckenzie, Georgie Wood, Dave Thomas, Mick Lyons, Bob Latchford probably my favourite Everton side since I first started watching them, great memories thanks for posting
This was the best Everton side between 70 & 85. I really thought they were going to win the league this year but they just fell short. Finished 3rd in the end.
One of the great disasters of Everton's history, leaking the news that Bobby Robson was going to be the new boss in 1975. Considering the players and resources at his disposal at Everton compared to Ipswich, it's hard to imagine them not winning trophies in that 1975-83 period
EVERTON! ONE OF THE FIRST TEAMS THAT I REMEMBER LOOKING LIKE A FOOTBALL TEAM. IN THOSE DAYS FOOTBALL TEAMS WERE JUST FOOTBALL TEAMS, NOWADAYS THE PLAYERS LOOK LIKE POP STARS OR YOUR MATES AS WELL AS LOOKING YOUNG.FINALLY SEEN FOOTAGE OF LEICESTER1-5 EVERTON! THAT ONLY TOOK ALMOST FORTY YEARS!
We had a good team in the late 70's under Gordon Lee, finishing 3rd and 4th in the league. All we needed was a top class keeper like Peter Shilton, and I think we probably would have won a trophy.
Gordon Milne was the Coventry Manager from 74-81 and Leicester Manager from 82-86. Gordon Lee became Everton Manager in 1977, when he left Newcastle. He was Manager for 4 years. He also got us to the 77 League Cup Final, and was robbed in the 77 FA Cup Semi by a scandalous decision by Clive Thomas.
Have just watched three big wins by Everton in that season. Never realised they were that good at that time (my first season was 80-81). Everton finished in 3rd, narrowly behind Liverpool with Forest champions by 9 points.
COR I REMEMBER THIS! SO IT WAS 1-5 NOT 0-5 (LAD-TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO ETC) EVERTON LATE SEVENTIES! WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC SIDE, MACKENZIE,LATCHFORD,KING ,HARVEY- MY FIRST SEASON SUPPORTING LEICESTER CITY! THEY ABSOLUTELY DEMOLISHED US. VERY TOUGH GAME JUST AS LIFE IS FOR SO MANY OF US! AW BEAUTIFUL TIMES. THOSE STRIPS!
COYB MY DAD TOOK ME THIS GAME WITH HIS DRINKING BUDDY ( ps to all this is not NICKI, I'm her other half. ) I remember it as it was my first away game. I also remember the atmosphere more than the game. We did not shut up. I also remember there was a bit of trouble, fighting etc etc. Looking back we didn't half a good team.

I can still picture Dave Thomas, socks rolled down and turning defenders inside out down the wing

Gordon Milne maybe? He came along in the 80s.

@@user-gd1ow9kb1q Right. That’s the confusion cleared up now. You didn’t make it clear in the first paragraph which team you followed.

Bob please get your boots on again
Top team that
Was this the season Bob Latchford won a car by scoring 30 goals
Didn't know Higgins was playing that early
No silverware but a good side didn't someone get 30?!
Bob Latchford scored 30 league goals in this season
Yes, Latchford. Famously so. Lineker did it too in the 85/86 season. We haven't had a striker done it since. Less games a season now, of course.
COR I WISH THAT SOMEBODY WOULD FIND LEICESTER3-1 EVERTON 1985 ! I 'VE NEVER SEEN THAT TO THIS DAY!
I was there in the away end. Baby squad got me battered me on and off the pitch. It was all downhill from there 😣
I remember these bizarre Leicester’s white church pew seats!
Johan Apricot rip.
Scousers aggri , Scousers aggro, hello hello 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀 COYB
We all agree Duncan McKenzie is magic
Is it true Everton players have to sniff each others farts before they play as an ancient ritual?
