Awkward was realizing the slave trader was one of the 'better' characters. He was always honest and never tried to screw Naofumi.

It's only slightly more funny when you realize why. He has a vested interest in Naofumi. He knows the legends of the Shield Hero as well as anyone else does. He knows that Naofumi is going to be one of the better heroes. He knows he's going to be a friend to the beastmen. He knows that Naofumi is going to need all the help he can get, since he's got a shield and not much else. He knows the Shield Hero is going to need allies.
So, that's what he sells. Allies. He has no reason to lie to Naofumi. No reason to cheat him. As long as he's honest about being crooked and honest about his business while being fair with his prices, Naofumi will continue to do business with him. He knows Naofumi is going to have a lot of money and adoration at some point. That his popularity might even lead to an increase in his own business (he even gets an increase in business as he says to Naofumi after some people have seen Filo and Naofumi helping people on the roads).
For all intents and purposes, the Slave Trader is Naofumi's business partner. He helps him out and is great to him because there's a lot of profit in it.
It probably also helps that by being so nice to Naofumi, he doesn't incite his wrath much much much much later. Because, Naofumi is a good person, and he may come around to the idea that Slavery is wrong and should be abolished 100%. It makes sense not to mess with Naofumi when before the Slave Trader came along, the dude was shaking down merchants by using monsters. That's a dude that is scary smart and would find a way to collapse your business down around your ears if he decided it wasn't good.

Fun fact: Naofumi only wears armor because Raphtalia insisted he needed it, he was perfectly fine with walking around with only the clothes he had and the cape Eihardt (The Blacksmith) gave him because the Shield gave him an absurd defense stat, but, since Raphtalia thought he needed more protection and he trusts her, he went with it.

Naofumi also teases Raphtalia and Firo, and shows a nicer side to then that she doesn't show anyone else, being actually happy if they are having fun, that happens because to him they are children and he worries if he is raising them right. The Shield of Wrath and the trauma of being persecuted makes it harder for him to see that Raphtalia and Melty have romantic feelings for him, that and they are 12, so, he can't even imagine It, even though other people see it. When the Queen talked about a political marriage, he was the first to protest It, with Melty being offended at the prospect of him not finding her beautiful, but also not wanting a political marriage. Naofumi chalked that up to Melty being at the age kids like to be contrarians. He also worries Raphtalia being forced to fight a war against the waves while she wants to do it out of love for him

One of the better isekai's because they acknowledge that while the world behaves like a game, the world is a real world and needs to be treated as such, not a video game world where most of your actions won't have consequences.
I really like this take on a isekai it add's a realism if you see your life as a game you kind forgot that actions have consequences sometimes horrible one's

Technically in that world beastpeople age based on their experience and not just age, so she just leveled really fast or smth, making her grow quickly, and the exp was boosted by being near a hero, and later on exp gain being boosted further by shield upgrade buffing slaves, beastpeople of specific species, etc.

I love how most of this opening symbolizes Naofumi and Raphtalias relationship. I feel like the beginning is Naofumi searching for someone to trust in this world, while Raphtalia is trying to find someone to care for her. When Raphtalia is holding the bars I think it symbolizes her at her limit and at the edge of what she can handle, wanting desperately to break through. When Naofumi is knocked down some stairs into those same bars it represents how he's constantly getting pushed down and betrayed until he reaches his limit, then they realize the other one is there and they get to each other, breaking the metaphorical bars and boundaries so they can be there for each other. Raphtalia and Naofumi don't just go together because she attacks and he defends, she's there so he can still find something to trust and to fight for and he is there so she can have someone to look up to and care for her. 90% of this opening shows their relationship.

The spear hero was the worst, the other two weren’t good, but they weren’t as bad as spear, because unlike the spear hero, they were kinda honest during the duel, and said something about the wind magic, but overall, they were all just stupid, which due to their stupid actions, made them bad

J'ai lu le manga il y a quelques années et j'ai pas vraiment accroché...
Mais il y a deux jours, j'ai découvert l'animé et je l'ai regardé. J'ai littéralement flashé dessus et je le recommande ! ❤
Résumé ( ou plutôt début de l'histoire ) pour ceux qui veulent :
⚠️ : pas vraiment de spoil mais je préfère prévenir quand même.
Naofumi Iwatani est un étudiant de 20 ans qui vit au Japon sans but dans la vie. Un jour, alors qu'il va à la bibliothèque pour lire des livres, il tombe sur un livre qui lui met la puce à l'oreille et il l'ouvre.
Il tombe sur une page blanche et est alors transporté dans un autre monde, celui du livre.
Dans ce monde, les villageois sont menacés par ce qu'ils appellent des Vagues de calamités.
Le Roi de la ville de Melromarc à alors voulu invoqué des héros nommés "Les Quatre Saints Ancestraux". Il y a celui à la lance qui sera attribué à un étudiant de 21 ans nommé Motoyasu, celui à l'épée qui sera attribué à un lycéen de 16 ans nommé Ren, celui à l'arc qui sera attribué à une garçon de 17 ans nommé Itsuki et enfin, celui au bouclier qui sera attribué à Naofumi.
Ils seront alors mit au courant de la situation et accepte d'aider le Roi en échange d'une récompense.
Naofumi va vite se rendre compte que le bouclier n'est pas une arme et qu'il est le plus faible de tous...
Les héros devront s'entraîner pour gagner des capacités et améliorer leurs statistiques et leur niveau.
Pour cela, quelques équipiers sont proposés et choisissent leur héros.
Malheureusement, personne ne choisir Naofumi sauf une femme nommé Malty, allias Mein.
Mais il s'avère qu'elle ne s'est intéressée à Naofumi seulement pour lui voler son argent et ses équipements.
Elle va accuser le pauvre Naofumi d'avoir tenté de la violer et va se cacher derrière Motoyasu. Naofumi va alors se retrouver seul, sans argent, sans équipements et déchu de son honneur de héros.
Il va alors fermer son cœur et devenir froid.
Un jour, un marchand d'esclaves va alors lui proposer un de ses esclaves et Naofumi va acheter une semi humaine ( des personnes existant dans ce monde étant humains mais avec quelques caractéristiques animales comme une queue et des oreilles par exemple... ) qui était à l'époque malade et atteinte d'un trouble mental... Naofumi va alors s'occuper de cette jeune semi humaine nommé Raphtalia.
Il va alors gagner des niveaux avec elle et débloquer de nouveaux boucliers.
Je ne vous en dit pas plus sinon je vais vous spoiler. 😉

So much quality, it's absolutely insane. This and Neverland are already good contenders for Anime of the year 2019...
Wormy yeah as someone who's read the manga all the way so far and is currently starting the light novels I'm praying with everything I have that this show is adapted properly all the way. There is an insane amount of potential here like I haven't seen in ages and all the characters are genuinely unique and well written.
there's going to be another one that comes out in the summer called Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou. That one is going to be just as good as Shield hero. I guarantee it, that dude starts off worse than Naofumi.

Shields get a bad rep now, but really they were used not only for defense but combat as well in the Middle Ages. Shield bashes with spikes could be a deadly weapon and with enough strength could break bones. Swiping with the shield was also a good use of its edges since most of the soldiers didn’t have armor like what we equate knights having. Even without a spear or sword, a shield is good to keep hold of in a fight.

I think they wanted to put some philosophical meaning under the flower colours, the red kinda tell us about his inner hatred under which he fell, being consumed by demon shield and the light ones describe his genuine kind nature.
The way they end with Naofumi controlling his rage with his allies help and a cry escaping from his eyes always hit me, just a 2/3 seconds but it represents so well the character Naofumi is
