Absolute geez. Rick is the real deal. Met him in 79 at a sound check in Loughborough, Weller was tetchy, Bruce was laid back and amicable, so was Rick.
Grew up as a massive JAM fan. Saw Time UK when they played at my best mates University, really good live band and Playground of Privilege was a decent single. Caught The Gift when they played Stourbridge River rooms and From the Jam when both ex members were in it. Awesome drummer, great memories and a nice down to earth guy, when you meet him. BTW...Good movie choice, brilliant dialogue so witty and funny. Fantastic locations and great set pieces.
Absolutely brilliant interview ....many thanks to both of you for 1 hour 28 minutes of sheer entertainment ...:-) and Rick thank you for being so honest ...respect to you man :-)
Would’ve liked to hear Rick‘s feeling towards Weller not wanting to speak to him since the break after 10 years together. You would have thought that you would at least acknowledge him, it must hurt Rick more than he willing to admit.
Listening to Rick say "Planning our own demise" really hit me. I've played in bands for years and years, playing shit gigs, hauling the gear etc. to absolutely no success. The Jam spending 10 years to get to the status they achieved then Paul pulling the plug on it must have been just heartbreaking for the guys.
I bought a few Weller albums in the years since, but nothing has impacted me or stood out really. Yes, there are some lovely songs indeed, but so so much cabaret twaddle that fails to differentiate itself from the fuzzy static of mediocrity resulting from a lack of passion and a need to pay bills, in my opinion. Even upbeat songs like "Floorboards Up", while well played, lack the magic and snappy precision of Buckler and Foxton.
Magnificent band.Rick's drumming is phenomenal
The only band I can listen to everyday and never get tired of it

Why was his nickname "Pube...?"
Blimey, this interviewer bores the shit out of me.. Only stayed for Rick ✊🏻
You always feel he's got more to say about the split than he actually says 🤔

What a wooden presenter. Struggling to read his own notes. Has he had a charisma bypass? I thought Rick was going to nod off.
