I have a 1 year old child. I am disabled. I receive social security, but technically, my AGI is 0. Not only will it not give me the CTC, but it won't even let me E-file because it keeps saying i have no income & have not filled out line 9 of the 1040. It let me have the CTC last year. No info changed. This sucks. I wish somebody would help me. 😢😢
Same here and exact error messages on TurboTax lines 9, 11, 16, 18, 21, 24, 33 missing, yet I've cleared form, restarted and completed the whole thing. It's a glitch and it's pissing me off. I'm filing a SSA-1099 claiming 1 dependent and it tells me sure you can claim your child tax credit, then click thru a few screens and it says No you do not qualify but your child does. Make it make sense. Now I have to search for another tax filer tool and start over...😬
Am I eligible for the CTC if I get Social Security or SSI? Yes, if you meet the qualifying rules of the CTC. You can claim this credit from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) based on each of your qualifying children, even if you get Social Security or SSI and don't normally file a tax return.Feb 8, 2022
@@Sunshine-yl4vx Here is even better news...When you call the IRS to order forms they will tell you that you need to wait for pending legislation to pass to get the CTC, which is BS. If that wasn't enough they said they are ever so conveniently out of 1040's at this time lol. You should still try to find somewhere to print out a 1040 & file if possible. You might get this year's CTC at a later time. Also, check into form 8862. 👍🏻
I’m finding conflicting stuff with each video. So are nonfilers left in the dust? That’s all I’m trying to figure out like people with children who only receive disability and child support they are unable to get the CTC correct?
It means unless you earned atleast 2500 in 2022 you can't claim anything not even children, I'm in the same boat. Unless they change it nobody is getting any money that don't regularly file bc Congress has lied
Thanks for this. I wish the government had been more clear about child tax credits for 2022. Is it true that parents must earn at least $2,500 to qualify for anything? I am filling tax returns for my uncle who gets social security but the HR block website is saying that he does not qualify for any tax credits. Based on the above video, he should qualify for $6,000 for having 3 kids. Pls advise
I'm claiming 6 children with an income of under $7000. According to both FreeTaxUSA and TurboTax, I'm only getting $497 back? Does that sound correct? I was expecting $9000. Please help!
I thought the support test for a child dependent had to do with the amount of support the child provides for himself, not the amount the parent/guardian provides. Is this different for CTC as opposed to just proving dependency?
Good morning Jason , I HAVE DONE CHILD TAX CREDIT A YEAR A GO , Sence the Potomac ,I go back recently to Liberty Tax ! the people that work in Liberty Tax told me there is no more child tax credit !! I live on a fixed budget ,I've have not have had a problem since the pandemic I have a disability and I wasn't turn down during the epidemic ! I have received all my daughter's child tax credit with no problem, I would like to know how would I be able , to get the child tax credit for my daughter? like I did during the pandemic , I don't work but I was allowed to get my daughter's child tax credit could you please explain to me? please get back to me thank you🙏
What if you didn’t have a whole lot of income? I don’t even think I hit $1000 for income this year because I had a baby and was not able to work due to high risk can I still claim my kids on taxes or is there an amount you have to make first before you can claim your children
you need to talk to one of those people that do the taxes and you need to have a W-2 and the baby information And yours and take it to them to see what they tell you and be careful always ask how much they gonna charge you because they wanna charge 500 make sure someone tell you at least 200 not more than that or under how much is it going to be because they be robbing people they could charge you 700 and you don’t even know this to after you get a little money be careful
I need answer please . My AGI is 52,000 thousand one child 15 years old im head of the household and i did not get the full credit of 2,000 And you are saying for single head of household income limit is 200,000 thousand…. Is so confused ……. I did owe 698.00 to the IRS
The CTC is available in the year the child is born. If your child is born during the 2023 calendar year, you will claim your child as a dependent on your Form 1040 for the 2023 tax year, which is filed on or before April 15, 2024.
If you draw social security & that's the only income you have you well not be able to get the child tax credit for your childrens this Year you gotta have earned income credit to claim it they change the child tax credit is back to $2000 pre a child 3 are more childrens u can only get up to $6000 they are not going off have many kids you have this year !!! So if social security is the only income you have then u won't be able to get anything this
As long as your child was born in the year you intend to claim them as a dependent & qualifying child, you can generally claim for child tax credit purposes. You will need a valid SSN or ITIN for the child in order to claim them on your tax return.
I agree with this. I have no kids I put in 8000 in every year and I get a missly 500. I think that’s a rip off. Paying for people who don’t want to work
2700 for 4 kids is beyond crazy I thought it would be 2700 for each child! Turbo tax is a rip off!
Use FreeTaxUSA

Yes smh
The information here is pretty accurate, but you missed that they added a minimum gross income limitation.
Did age limit go down ? I thought used to be under age 18 now seems to be under age 17 (at end of 2022).

Do you have to live in the usa for more than 6 months to get the credit
Concise but encompassing, GREAT video!
For divorcees with a child, the child tax credit now ends at 17? Did the age use to be different if they went to college at one point?
I LIVE IN MARYLAND and filing taxes with w2 i add my two children as dependants and somehow only get 1000$?

I claimed four kids (one turned 17 in Nov)with around the same income. I am getting back close to 4k, less than half of last year.

I ran into the same issue this year.. we don't qualify for it now..
So if you have zero income and dependents you can’t file taxes this year for the child tax credit?
It's a credit and can only be used to offset your taxes, no taxes no credit, just like it use to be.
Correct
So can I get the child tax credit if im on disability ,and have children
What if you didn’t have a whole lot of income? I don’t even think I hit $1000 for income this year because I had a baby and was not able to work due to high risk can I still claim my kids on taxes or is there an amount you have to make first before you can claim your children
I'm curious about this as well
You can still file . It's 2000 per child
I'm curious too. I read online that minimum income had to be at least $2500.

It is not based on income. Do you have to pay any taxes? This is a credit and can only be used to offset your taxes. You will not get any money.
Any credits for being a single Mom? Low income, $35K/yr. two kids?
The quickest way to find out is go to h&r block online. You dont pay until you actually file it. You can see how much you’ll get.
Hi , can i have the question, you can file tax separate if you still get married not divorced , still live together but have kid

Now I'm on SSI and can I get a child tax credit this year cause I got one for him last year ?
I run into this on TurboTax u can't file even with childrens I try it on a 1099
Same here that’s why I’m here

Yes if born before 2023 he will qualify.
What if my dependent was born in July
last year

can a person that didnt work at all file
What if I made no income
Then you get nothing. Go work.

Can I get the child tax credit if the child is 17
No, they have to be under 17 at the end of the year
apparently it's not an election year but it will be easier to file.
Garbage now.
