Yeah - guess only "boomer medics" like the professionals I worked with actually knew their stuff enough to not need to whip out their phones. Then again, they weren't high ego flight paramedics either - just ordinary people doing an extraordinary job of taking care of the sick and injured in the back of an ambulance. Personally, I'd work with them any day.
You should talk about some of the times you’ve used your personal medical kits outside of your job and what you used. You mentioned in a previous video something from a kit you used.
I wish Epocrates would actually just flat out say what the drug is used for (like used to treat high blood pressure, depression, etc) and the drug class/type (beta blocker, blood thinner, PPI, etc). Because I tend to need it when someone says a drug that I don’t know, but it doesn’t say what the drug is actually used for and what type of drug it is. I actually find google to be better in that reguard
I had surgery March 17th and had complications. I developed a blood clot in my left leg and one in my lungs. Then I developed a staph infection on part of the incision sight. May 13th I had to go see the surgeon and he took the top off and now I have an open wound. I also had to have an iron infusion. On the way home an hour and a half away my van broke down. It took a week to get it towed to an engine repair shop. People prep so you have food and medical supplies to care for yourself in case of emergencies.
That sounds like an app that would be more useful for a firefighter to have 😂 Jk. Most monitors have a feedback device on them or services use the Lucas.
Do you lock your phone? , The other day I noticed i was so sweaty (due to fixing a camera through the attic) I couldn't access my phones fingerprint sensor. I then proceeded to unlock my phone through pin 📌 but it was still difficult. I now keep my phone unlocked so ice, I can just access Bixby using the side button. What are your thoughts?
Face unlock may work, but your phone may not have it. It's not as secure as iPhone's face ID but still alright and better than not locking it. Then again it may not work well with masks
Me a 16 year old: this will be interesting Also me: flightrader and calculator, why? I understand it but why did you add it? My sound wasn’t working right so I couldn’t hear why.
Out of curiosity have you ever been to any of the scl health facilities meaning dropping off patience or being transferred there for a short amount of time
I'm surprised, honestly. "Boomer," "Ok boomer" and the like have become such banal, throwaway insults that it's hardly even original or surprising any longer. Always comes across as arrogant, to me, when people use it - case in point being the smug smile that accompanied the usage here.
I find it insulting. I'm not thin-skinned, so I honestly don't care.... but IMHO it's kind of the N-word of ageism and really has no place in any sort of professional discussion.
Veterinarians for cattle and horses are always heavily sought after usually there aren’t many of them around. Often times they do stuff in the field instead of an office so it might be more your speed if you are considering ems and it definitely would pay better
Dr McCoy, I believe this person needs medical attention, perhaps you should use your Tri-Corder to scan him? Spock, stop practicing medicine without a license, you pointed eared hobgoblin, I don't need a Tri-Corder, I have my cellphone
By the way - make sure your protocols don't have any rules forbidding the usage of cell phones when working with a patient, first and foremost or this super cool video can cost you your job. What a shame, incidentally, that you chose to put in your snide comment about "boomer medics" (you know, the medics who paved the way for you to come along and do what you do) complete with your smug little smile. That was a throwaway insult and beneath you. For all your cleverness, two things remain so - some regions require you to carry those "outdated books" in their vehicles, and also books such as the ERG don't run out of power. The flaming can now begin, but I'll be glad to unsubscribe and get my information from someone who doesn't think themselves better than others by spitting on the people who got them where they are.
No flaming needed. I think you´re right. I, myself without any professional medical training other than basic combat medic in the german airbourne, really dig some of the apps. I´m often out in the woods bushcrafting, geocaching and climbing and i hope these apps can help me when shit hits the fan and i´m too nervous to remember. I think he just made a joke about boomer medics and his smirk just meant that he doesnt think that way at all. But i agree with you on unfortunate joke placement. I myself rely heavily on electronic maps and navigation, but would never leave to unknown terrain without an hardcopy backup and oldschool navigation equipment/Pen and Paper. I think the golden way is to use tablets given by your job and hardcopy backups in every vehicle. My generation (I just got 30 this week) is used to work with Tablets and phones and the people are really fast in using them. This can help to reduce time a lot. If you pack the tablet in an military graded cover and you use constant and microcontrolled charging in the vehicles you´d be safe to not loose power. But i would always insist on having a backup, written on paper, in reach. That´s the case in most german responding cars, fire service, ambulances, and mobile doctor teams which are a big part of germans EMS. I would love too hear your opinion on it, since i´m not an EMS responder, just responding to wildlife medical calls as an volunteer. And i will try out some of the apps in training, eve nwhen i don´t need half of it, since i don´t have protocols or allowance to give medication. Hope my english is good enough for this discussion :-)
If doctors can google for their practice Paramedics can surely use apps out in the field.
Doctors, nurses, you name it.
Correct

No disagreement here. I use most of those (my base knowledge is CVICU nurse), and I even added a few. Thank you much.
Someone else mentioned it as well, but pedi stat is great. To coincide with the ERG, the NIOSH pocket handbook is great for hazmat.

Why am I now just seeing this, thanks PrepMedic !!! (Paramedic student here)
Tactical Beard coming along brother. Awesome vid!

I save and watch all your videos
Starting class tomorrow! Only now am I starting to get nervous 😅
Ain’t that bad if you’ve got emt experience! Don’t sweat it. Put ur hours in and study the god forsaken pharmacology hahahaha
@@joeygreen5443 Thanks, sir. Will do, and always keeping my ears and eyes open for good lessons.
Algo food. Thanks for everything you do. More relevant now than ever.
Excellent resources. Thanks! #emslife #nremt #paramediccoach
New look is good. So will we be seeing a new sponsor like “My Beard Supply” in the future? 😉
I can’t find “IV CALC” on Apple App for IPhone. Did the name change?
Love you from India
Great content.
18:24 is actually so funny
Favorite app. Code Runner!
Last time I was this early Prepmedic was bald
would you recommend EMTrainer or first aid guide ?
I love your Videos
have you checked out any of the apps made by the CDC, EPA, FEMA, or WHO?
Like the beard Sam... And word on a show and tell on the helicopter?
Thanks for the good video
Any alternative to the SOAR app on android?
Sick cut broskini
The SORA app is that on Google or apple I'm not able to put it up
Beard looks great!
Can't find "SOAR MTA" app on Android. Only on IOS?
I can't find it on android either
I can't find most of the apps. Liks to them would be good.
A beard? Do I see a beard? Looks good. How did you add your iPhone screen on the side?
Just did screen capture and then put the video in my software
Bro I really dig the beard👊
Neato
PPP apps, please give full name that apps.
Dude, definitely keep the hair and the beard. Leave that bald head for when you're in your 50's and balding.
Hi Sam
pulse point
There is a problem if your protocol updates that often.
Every quarter.
Check TBOC😉
What about a metronome for cpr?
That sounds like an app that would be more useful for a firefighter to have 😂 Jk. Most monitors have a feedback device on them or services use the Lucas.
How many of these apps function at a useable level without cell service?
Are any of them useful in very austere settings?
They all function, at least to a degree without cell service. If you noticed I had my phone in airplane mode almost the entire video.
@@PrepMedic nah, didn't notice. Good to know, though. I have some great navigation/mapping apps that become useless once signal falls off.

Huh. Imagine that. Guess Captain Cool didn't think of that while he was insulting the "boomer medics."
Nice beard, buddy!
Me a 16 year old: this will be interesting

The calculator is for any math/formulas.
The flight tracker is because he works with helicopters.
Nice beard!

why did you put all in one folder lol
Why did I not put it in one folder?

Any good apps for BLS??
Not really. Honestly there isn’t much in the BLS realm you should need to look up.
You forgot the timer 😜😂
Cardiac arrest timer app? What’s the name of the app your talking about?
@@camcam3087 nah the regular timer, usually used for assessing the pulse how many beats for minutes.

XD Boomer Medics. I laughed harder than i should.

Sometimes it is warranted. Is the "new blood" more efficient? If so, then... When the "new" is wrong, however flashy it might be, it just wrong. IMO
This boomer just graduated paramedic school at 67 with better grades and attitude than my 20 something counterparts.
I find it insulting. I'm not thin-skinned, so I honestly don't care.... but IMHO it's kind of the N-word of ageism and really has no place in any sort of professional discussion.
Are you still working on the ambulance? If so, how are you allowed to sport the beard?
No i think he's on the helicopter
I still work on the ambulance occasionally but my full time job is on the helicopter. If you have a beard you just wear a PAPR
Why do u need apps to treat pts? Just ask the teenage medics that just got out of school.. They know everything
Hi I want to be a paramedic or a veterinarian when I grow up it’s so hard to decide because I want to help people but I also want to help animals😫
Do animals lol

Go do a ride along with your local EMS or fire department!!
Medics have trash pay unless you go flight medic or firefighting...keep that in mind. They’re vastly different so keep that in mind too
