Arin is the little brother who took karate classes and Dan is the older brother who just picks him up and throws him into the wall.
Can't beat OG skilz.
That's unbelievably accurate...
This literally happened to me. My twin sister had one karate class and said she could beat me up. I pinned her in 30 seconds with her arms behind her and my foot on her back.
Thank you for giving me access a fun memory I forgot I had.
I cannot think of a better way to describe what I just witnessed.
Notice Arin started doing better when he started playing a faster deck with LESS than 4 colors.
I respect how honorable and truthful Arin plays. He's fully up-front about his every mistake, and tells Dan how to do things that help Dan defeat him.
Every mistake he notices, anyway. He makes a lot of mistakes he doesn't realize are mistakes.
@@billvolk4236 Gotta love the Magic community.

I see Arin also opts for the infinite figure 8 mouse gesture while he's idle.
I thought it would only be satisfying to do myself, not to watch someone else do, but I was quickly proven wrong. I enjoyed watching it.
More specifically a figure 8 as fast as you can around something on screen without touching it.
@@shotguntornado Interesting, I was just thinking how I do the same but when he was doing it I started getting irrationally annoyed by it.
@Lara ! y.o I WANT SЕЕХ !!!! OPEN MY VIDEO !!!! i think your profile name is giving people the wrong impression

@@FatesDecision you have some impressive decks good sir. Keep up the good work 😁
Usually when I'm watching Game Grumps they're the ones confused about gameplay.
You're not alone. I love Magic, but I still get lost when I'm watching people play it in videos.
I’m just here for 47 minutes of the fire cat 😻🔥
@@LaceNWhisky It's easy. All you have to do is play the right cards at the right time and then you win. Unless you don't, in which case you flip the table and end your friendship with your opponent.
I'm Very Angry It's Not Butter perfectly balanced as all things should be
It's better that you don't get it bro. Understanding the game makes it a very frustrating experience. That was Arin playing Sonic heroes for me. So much yelling at the screen.
Arin, such a master of shuffling that the computer gives him bad hands just to make it fair
His hands are bad because his decks are bad lol
@@ethangilworth7891 at least he isn't net decking, but making actual decks himself.
And even the best decks can get mana starved/bloated, so I don't know what you're basing that on.

I FUCKING LOVE THIS DO MORE MAGIC ARENA
@@ethangilworth7891 hard to say since I didnt see a deck list, but that gate deck seemed promising. Maybe not a tier 1 standard deck but it looked like it had the potential to combo off
Please do more magic uploads. I dot even play magic but I love how they do these. Arin is super good at balancing helping Dan out and also letting him make his own mistakes. I also love how they comment on the card art and talking about card strategy and just doing the general back and forth.
If you're interested, the game is free and easy to pick up. There's a tutorial to help teach you and the computer rec's are pretty dang low, so anyone can play no matter the pc.
I started playing for the fist time yesterday and already can play as well as Dan.
Arin: *helping Dan with his new deck that he’s never seen before*
Dan: *savagely beats Arin with the deck he barely knows about*
I love this relationship 😂
Edit: YAY ARIN!

also arin refusing to play a card that shuts down the deck he is playing against and instead spending his entire turn and 3 life to draw 1 extra card
durandle i dont actually know anything about Magic, I just observed this from what they said lol.
Isn’t this how ppl teach magic and introduce it? I watched a friend teach someone to play and walk them through it with a starter deck and basically just played useless crap on there turn mostly focusing on their understanding. Then when I was taught same thing, they focused on explaining how the deck, cards I had and how to bounce and they played crap basically on their turn to make sure I rebuttals in an understanding way and won, now I’m teaching my kids during quarantine and let them win their first rounds doing the same thing.... kinda assumed it was like a thing when walking someone new or returning after a long hiatus really.
@@Spider_Mike023 It's absolutely a thing, if you genuinely want the other person to pick up the game and hopefully play against you going forward, yes.
So what happened in the last game was that Dan had tapped three swamps manually before activating Icon of Ancestry, this is fine so far. However, we can both see and hear that he pressed "continue" afterwards, this moves him to the combat phase and all mana that was tapped disappears. Mana in MTG does not transfer between phases unless a card says otherwise.
Easiest way to avoid this is to click the artifact you wanna activate and then the game asks you to tap lands for it.
Hope this helped some one that's fairly new to the game.
Bonus trivia: There used to be a rule in MTG that was called mana burn witch meant that a player would lose life for each mana that was floating when changing phases.
What? Mana Burn is no longer a thing? :(
@@martfp88 Yeah, cards that were balanced around mana burn like Mana Drain don't get printed anymore because, well, that's blatantly overpowered without mana burn.
@@Necroskull388 Man... When I played back in the day I had a deck based on mana burn by putting a bunch of mana in the opponent's mana pool, not a great deck but it was hilarious to pull it off xD haha
@@Necroskull388 it was blatantly overpowered with mana burn too. Take it from someone who was there lol.
@@martfp88 yeah man, it's why cards like omnath locus of mana are so valuable now. any card that prevents mana from phasing out is invaluable for any format. I'm a newer player so i can only imagine how the meta looked when mana didn't expire when you changed phases lmao
This reminds me of when Dan promised to go see cats with Arin and betrayed his wife Arin by going with someone else . Never forget cats. I'm glad their relationship was not tarnished by it.
Too bad Ashley got a divorce from her husband Suzie when he saw the movie dogs without her!

Love that you two are playing Magic for the show. One suggestion. It may be better to show Dan's perspective. As most of the time is during his control, Arin's view is pretty static. If the viewer saw Dan's perspective, they could have more engagement as they follow Dan's thought process. Love ya guys, and most importantly, have fun!
Itd be cool if they could do the thing coverage does and show both hands.
It would be great to just not have to see Arin move the mouse around in circles so much.
Well Dan doesn’t have any of the recording equipment at his house

arin: *has a channel where he claims to be the shuffle master*
dan: *is* the shuffle master
Dan has a very much more in depth history with Magic, Arin is more of a novice/newbie with a lot of excitement and passion for it.
@@CarlsCozyCorner I....sure
@@pearlexquisite935 why did you respond that way? It's true.
@@CarlsCozyCorner What are you talking about? Dan makes way way worse plays than Arin and has difficulties understanding the functionality of his cards.
For example not sacrificing a creature to the oven in response to removal, not double blocking the colossus, missing endless cat activations, making poor decisions on when to attack and when not to in general...
Arin is new but clearly Dan played even less.
@@blueplayer6197 well he's spoken about his _past_ with Magic, but it's very possible he's forgotten/hasn't kept up with what cards do. Arin is new and enthusiastic and thus has a more in-depth understanding of newer generation cards.
The cat oven explanation sounds like prozd's card game videos.
I've got 5 cheese tokens, which I trade in for a Cheesemaker
I WAS JUST THINKING THAT
That really kind of is how some decks are though
@@kappaross6124 artifact decks are the worst for that, especially ones that create 1/1 creatures. Nothing like winning because you summoned like 15 1/1 creatures in a single turn, it's like killing a dragon with a sack of mice... actually that's probably literally a scenario that has happened in Magic 😂
I mean, isn't that the point of a good parody?
I could watch Dan beat the hell out of Arin at magic 5 out of 6 times many more times.
Me too
Please do more of this! Watching you guys play magic is the most fun I've had watching you guys.
Watching Arin open ridiculous amounts of magic cards I will never get on shuffle master is fun too, but it is much more fun to get Dan involved and let them be silly at eachother. And watching Dan relearn the modern game after being a casual 90s player makes it really interesting. And the new Kaldheim set seems pretty cool, it would be fun to see you guys try out the new cards when they come out.
I'd love for the Grumps to keep playing MTGA even when they get back to more regular play of other games.
Maybe a weekly, hour long episode of Shuffle Grumps? Do some commander, four player, team, etc?
I’d alctually like to see a power hour where they draft, see what they get, and build a quick deck each and play a few rounds against each other.
I think i would die of joy
I love this idea
It honestly sounds like Arin's deck requires some cigs to fall right in place and he's pissed that he's not drawing exactly the right cards.
That's what you get for playing a three color deck xD
The only three colors I like is red green blue or black white blue. I can't imagine doing anything else with three colors.
@@gamingelementalist6725 temur is okay(got worse with the rotation), and esper is always good. Multicolor decks have basically had the advantage for the last like 9 years(outside of mono-red).
The main problem for Arin seems to be a lack of deck building principles.
Everyone else: oh my God, Dan is CRUSHING Arin!
Me: LOOK AT THE FIRE CAT ITS SO CUTE!!!
I'd love if this becomes a regular series. Just you two playing casual magic with each other. It's such a welcome change to most other magic channels focussing on competitive play (or commander, alternatively).
Your not casting the cat when you're bring baby kitty back from the graveyard boogaloo. You're activating its ability. This means that this action does not give you "whenever you cast" triggers, but still gives you the "enter the battlefield" trigger, and you can do it on the opponent's turn
Look you got a fan toobad its your only fan buuu dum tiss
this is why magic is hard
Arin (for months): Talks excitedly about magic
Dan: (using decks he's never used before): Absolutely wipes the floor with Arin's beloved decks
I love this series I hope I keeps going as long as fire red, magic is just a fun and entertains game to watch and it’s even more fun and entertaining when it’s Dan and Erin playing
I just wanted to say thank you guys for uploading. My puppy passed away yesterday and you guys are getting me through another dark time. I know you guys may never actually see this comment but I just wanted you to know how grateful we are for your humor when we can't find a reason to smile, for laughter when all we can do is cry, and for the promise that maybe their still is light in the dark when we are ready to look for it again. Take care and thank you for all that you do.
This is like the Card Wars episode from Adventure Time where Finn just keeps flooping the pig causing Jake to lose his mind.
I don't know anything about this, but the conversation is comforting. People say it all the time, but it's like having pals around playing games.
I love watching you guys play this! However, I haven't played Magic in a long time, and I'm itching to read the cards when they're played to see what they do! Arin, even though you know what most of these cards do, it would be very helpful to your viewers to hover your mouse over new cards that enter the game for a few moments, so everyone can read them. (:
Totally agree. It would also help with the downtime when Dan is deciding what to do, rather than just spinning the cursor in circles.
for sure. i had to pause a lot to get what was happening
Agreed. The print is so damn tiny too even when he hovers it I can't read it on my phone. Hopefully Arin sees this!
Same and I've played magic since 2012, but no one knows every card. There's thousands.
I literally love this series so much, I have no idea what's happening but I want them to continue anyway!
"the battle betwixt the netherregions" sounds like an NSP song title
Those poor cats. I appreciate how Arin is helping Dan with his deck by telling him what he can do BEFORE he would need to do it, unlike how most people would tell you after the moment has passed. I would love to see a series where Arin teaches us how to start playing Magic and how to build a deck.
Arin keeping on reminding everybody Dan has a stronger deck is HILARIOUS... you can tell he's dying inside that Dan keeps beating him.. and I LOVE IT!!... lol...
He really is the sorest loser 😂
“Well you’re playing historic decks that are more optimized than my decks so...” no, Arin, your decks are just horribly constructed.
@@l4l01234 I was really surprised he managed to put a semi decent Azorious deck together after seeing that gate deck. I wish I could take his money and build the decks for him. Most of these historic decks are still beatable with standards at least 50/50.

Do you understand what's going on at all?
This is like Magic the Gathering ASMR, a duo of friends having wholesome fun, the veteran player (Arin) helping out the less experienced player (Dan) and just balancing the flow of the game for Dan's enjoyment, and not to mention the genuine appreciation of the card art.

I'm so glad that i'm not the only one that continually makes patterns with the cursor when they're waiting in MTGA, very cool Arin, very cooooool
I love MTG, but this video is a perfect example of how there's very little skill involved in actually playing the game. All the skill is in building the deck. As long as you have even a moderate understanding of how your deck works (which Dan didn't, but it doesn't take much practice to get the hang of it) then the action to take at any given time is pretty obvious. It all comes down to what cards are in your deck and how lucky you get with your draws
That's almost every TCG. The only skills you need are deck building and risk assessment.
Lol Dan knows how to play the decks, he’s played magic a lot longer than Arin, he just doesn’t know the new sets or the arena client. Arin’s decks are bad, yes, but he also made lots of mistakes he didn’t notice. The most glaring and obvious one was never mulligan-ing even the most awful starting hands, but there’s other stuff like scrying for useless cards he won’t be able to play, and never playing for tempo instead of mana efficiency
TCG are made to take your money. This isn't new.
@@CheetahBigKitty except the game in this very video is free
ARIN WINS!!! ARIN IS THE VIDEO GAME BOY!!!
I’m so happy and I want more of this please. I understand nothing about magic the gathering but I want more Dan curb stomping Arin and more Arin’s triumphant comeback mixed with the usual Game Grumps humor.
Drinking game:
Have a drink every time Dan forgets the oven-cat combo.
Have a drink every time Arin gets frustrated.
You tryna kill people Jakob?
Arin did tell Dan to save the combo for when Arin attacks, when Dan should be using it before every untapped step.
@@jordansnyder4232 Dan should be saving it for before every untap step unless he's trying to chump block, which wouldn't work on the flyer deck, but still.
Ya know what I just realized makes Arin such a great gamer?
He only ever gets angry in a way that is funny to everyone while remaining sportsmanlike. He is never unprofessional about competing against other people.
I love how Arin still helps Dan even w-ile Dan is beating him! So sweet!
"Helps" Dan. Not all of his suggestions are actually good. I assume he's not leading Dan astray on purpose, but sometimes it's hard to tell.
Arin doing little figure eights with his mouse cursor is such a mood. I’m always catching myself doing things like that.
Ah I loved it when Arin brings back Sugar bear from the grave just to sing his tune once more.
Please play more of this. I’ve started getting into Magic because of this and I’m loving every second
i see Arin is drawing nothing but lands for five straight turns, this happens to me all the goddamn time. Arena's shuffler is broken
Nah, that's just variance. Happens to me in paper all the fucking time.
Yeah mana flood/mana screw is an annoying bit vital part of the game
If it happens to you very often, your deck has too many lands.
@@MGosling94 nah, using an appropriate number of lands it can still happen pretty frequently if variance is against you. That's how randomness works.

Alternative Title: Dan stomps Arin repeatedly until Arin pulls out a hard counter (flyers, lifelink, and enchantment-based removal)
I’ve just recently gotten into Arena and I kinda suck but I’m getting the hang of it! And I really enjoy watching Arin and Danny play together and it’s helping me learn about combos and such. I would love for this to be a series!
During this video i liked putting my curser over there curser and pretending i we were holding hands. no homo.
I usually shove my taint where Arin has his cursor to emmulate him rubbing it. No homo.
That must take some skill, considering how he never stops moving that dang curser all over the screen constantly.
Arin: has no creatures
Also Arin: convinces dan not to cat oven so that he has a chump blocker
Dan: doesn't know he can cat oven at end of Arin's turn

Dan: This deck is called something silly but there are absolutely no obsolete cards and will stomp you to the ground.

When will Arin stop being an accessory to his own murders?
I think that Arin was exited to teach Dan to play Magic since he hasn’t played in a long time (to my knowledge) bc Arin keeps telling him what to do to make him win. He’s literally playing with himself
i'd like to see more of this, if thats even on the table
I like how Arin kept losing and is upset but instead of playing to Danny's inexpireance and such to win, like a true friend he still tells him how to be better :)
Arin beat me to it "and all it took was a cheap ass flyers deck"
I don't really get to play any games because I handle a small baking business, I'm just here to listen to these two have fun wacky adventures while I do some work. 🤪
The only reason Arin was losing up until the last match was simply because he never flooped the pig.
Ya _gotta_ floop the pig.
Arin: wants to beat Dan very bad at magic
Also Arin: gives Dan meta advice that greatly gives Dan an advantage even tho Dan already has amazing historic decks from sets not in standard
I freaking LOVE using the Gatebreaker Ram + Gate collosus combo deck. Glad I got to see Arin using it.

I love when the grumps play magic, my favorite part is when dan wips out his big black deck.
As an Orzhov runner since 2012, acting really tough with half your opponents life total then realizing several turns later you've already lost when the life totals have not changed at all is the epitome of any black white deck.
I guess the editing team only cared about hiding Arin's friends's identities for the first half.
I'd love to watch more of them playing this, it's lovely
