Crazy how we spent 36 nights continuously in the same tent, on a 17,500km trip, and had a totally different experience. It's like your shooting your mouth off without ever having slept in it 😆😆 I'm guessing your a government employee. Ok just saw your road-roach tattoo and I understand you now.
Hey Steve would love to see your videos of the tent experience.. I mean my vid is actually us camping in it there was no hotel for me.. Just did the Connie Sue Track that was only 4,000km round trip but i had to go back to work in my Gov job so cant go for too long :P
Great review on a substandard copy of the Canyon Off-road version which has 320 GSM as opposed to Kings 280 GSM canvas. We have the Canyon Off-road off road and can see the difference in quality with this review . It's certainly one of those times where spending the extra money having that extra year warranty and quality parts is preferable for long term use.
I asked the Canyon crew nice bunch down there.. none of their tents are made in Australia. FYI. The canyon version could be made in the same place as kings just different spec. And probably better warranty support im sure. They do have a 50mm matress which is a huge upgrade from the 30mm in the kings ..
I have decided to get one of these tomorrow, regarding the pole across the sky light I will just put it to the side and maybe use two if necessary. I would think that the latches probably have a plate on the inside to reinforce the screw attachment. If not I will add them.
I have a t31 and looking for a roof top tent was also thinking about the king brand wasnt sure how going to look cool you filmed this will help me decide
For the price its a good buy just have to do some mods to make it better. You will never sleep on that 30mm matress kings know that however its hard to add any other matress that makes sense becuase of the design. Sadly its the same design as alot of these side open tents. Some have been smart and changed out the brackt so it will close 20mm higher then you have a better chance of at the least 40-50mm mattress
The roof pole will clip in to the rail. just use your muscles. Also, you will get the knack of tucking the sides in quickly and when done properly the buckles will lock with little resistance. As i tell my kids, if you have to force it your doing it wrong.
Glad im not the only person with one! Has all your velcro come off as well? Did you swap out your mattress? What did you use? There are a few upgraded to do once they are done I wil post the update,
Its not easy it weight about 60KG... What ive done is hung some ratchetts from my carport and i connect each corner then setadily lift of the roof as required.
It 68kg but you cant store anythign in it they are actaullya wesome but rubbish at the same time. If you are going to spedn $1500 or more then get something you can store gear inside of. This one is not it ! and you haev to upgrade yoru mattress immediately too. This one is only 30mm thin and not comfortable at all
Your tent seems so nice, when you bought did it come with those lights inside? And where did you connect for power source? Very nice set up on your Xtrail.
Cheers, mate. So very thankful. I just brought one last Friday, trying to set it up today. The instruction booklet is shit. Your video helped a lot, mate. Truly appreciate that. No idea where that internal pole goes, says inside clam shell, buggers me how though. Cheers.
A good test for rooftop tents is a rain storm . The last thing I would buy is a kings product. I have an icamp rooftop tent, and we were stuck in the cap York National Park In a thunderstorms and our rooftop tent was great.
Im guessing you mean iKamper made in South Korea ? Kings are china the same shape / designs are all made OS asia somewhere so youve paid thru the nose for an Ikamper. The only Aussie made tent i think at the momenet is A247 otherwise I agreee Kings is one of the lowest cost versions for sure. Waterproofability thoough it was storming and side rain it did well.
Yeh saw that. Im also adding some improvements like pinch weld aroudn the edging and bungee cord to pull the tent inwards like the expensive brands! Stay tuned
Thanks heaps for this video, well demonstrated setting up and taking down. I was thinking of getting one but your video put me right off from this purchase. So much mucking about especially closing it, tiny mattress and no room to even leave your pillow or sleeping bag, nope, that is not for me! And yes If you have a high roof like a troopie or landrover.... what a pain !
Have a look at part 2... I have part 3 coming out next week with some mods that Ive done to the tent to make it easier to close down and more comfy. The sales guy at Kings said they are a nightmare to close lol.. But knowing that I could see issues for the closing like the plastic flexing and getting cause on its rivets.. the tent material flowing outside of the lid and ppl using spatulas to tuck it in.. I went the 4x4 show got some cool tips to be added to mine,. Stay tuned
I have 2 matresses im trialing. The Dune 100mm self inflatable (this one you can vacuum down to be 35mm thin and it folds into the tent.) and I have a medium density foam 65mm I will be trialing this weekend and see if it closes.
No it goes from the center cross bar to the back / lid there is a pole loop and its a safety feature incase the tent struts wear out or strong wind conditions
Im sending it in for repairs around the second last month of its warranty life. That way i can capture everythign and you never know if alot is broken they might just repalce it.
i'll be honest, youre talking about how there is no cover for the skylight and there's literally one rolled up next to it. As for the tent you get what you pay for.
no mate there is no room.. Its super strange there seems to be 75mm space between the two platforms when you fold it so you should be able to squeez in 75mm... the 30mm OEM matress become 60mm on the fold and add the anticondensation mat is 12mm become 24mm s othats 72 mm and its tight! you cnat add a sleeping bag at all.. maybe squeeze something in at the back where there should be room like the 23zero offering. But I have successfully added 75mm self inflateable matress that vacuums down to about 35mm thick and its is still tight if you dont vacuum properly but its the best option for decent confort.
Nope its a horrizontal pole that goes from the "roof" which becomes the back wall.. there is a loop for it and extendts tp the mi d rib but the collar isnt wide enough so dosnt quite fit
What a pain in the arse to setup and put away defeats the purpose of a rooftop tent. Should be a 30 second setup and pull down Shithouse matress And no place for solar panels. Nah f@#k that.

There are not many tent not made in china or "asia" I asked Canyon for you where they make their gear.. let you know soon
@@poordirk2710 agree most of them are made in China as with Canyon, but look at the reviews on Canyon against kings... no comparison!

hahah thanks for watching random user. Happy new year

@@poordirk2710hi mate I’m curious about what upgrades you are referring to as I went and viewed a demo model today and I’m considering buying
What I want to know. And can’t find any video about it. How easy it is to remove it from the rack alone when you are done? Is it very heavy
Its not easy it weight about 60KG... What ive done is hung some ratchetts from my carport and i connect each corner then setadily lift of the roof as required.
I think it looks great. What was the campsite please.

Beautiful spot Ecidnas and little bouncy things great !
Very nice rooftop tent, how much is the weight??? Is it stable when there is wind???

no its comes with nothing! lol just the crappy matress. You have to add lights, shoe bags, better matress etc
Hi! Thanks for the video! Would you mind sharing what type of roof racks you’re using? Thanks 😊
Buddy I bought them from a lcoal 4x4 gear shop they are legit no branders cost $100 and been brilliant
@@poordirk2710 oki thanks
Why do the manufacturers keep making it difficult to add a flexible solar panel to the roof! Same with the older kings quickys!
Dunno Mate ive got some improvements up me sleeve in the next series
Cheers, mate. So very thankful. I just brought one last Friday, trying to set it up today. The instruction booklet is shit. Your video helped a lot, mate. Truly appreciate that. No idea where that internal pole goes, says inside clam shell, buggers me how though. Cheers.
Im gald! I hope the little mods are good to. Im ugrading matress again... self inflatable 10cm thick somethings will post when its done
I've been told you have the wrong ladder, the wide tread steps impairs closing. It is off another model
Nope its the OEM ladder that came with the Tent it shuts down as designed
did you leave your sleeping bag inside when you closed it?
You can sort of in the very back if you use the 30mm oem matress but i havnt been able to stow anything in it with my inflatable one

In another video, they used a rubber spatula to run around the edge instead of using your fingers to push the tent in when closing

That pole is to stop your mates closing the tent while you’re in it
They wont be mates for long lol
What upgraded matress did you end up fitting to make it more comfortable mate?

@@poordirk2710 hey did the 65mm foam fold down? I'm looking to buy this tent but want to be sure of a matress solution before pulling the trigger
The pole that you fitted across the moonroof is supposed to go from the rail over the doorway down to the floor at the base of the mattress.
No it goes from the center cross bar to the back / lid there is a pole loop and its a safety feature incase the tent struts wear out or strong wind conditions
I have seen you saying that your tent is in for repairs etc, do you know of any tent thats better, but similar price?
Im sending it in for repairs around the second last month of its warranty life. That way i can capture everythign and you never know if alot is broken they might just repalce it.
i'll be honest, youre talking about how there is no cover for the skylight and there's literally one rolled up next to it. As for the tent you get what you pay for.
No transparent cover..
That roof pole wasn't clipped in properly, you goose. The roof pole is for when it rains so the water doesn't pool on the roof.
The roof pole clip thing is way to small for the pole it clips into.. design oversight
wow so anger and disrespect. I guess you are making up for some shortcomings.
You could put an air mattress under the original one, then deflate and leave it in the tent…
no mate there is no room.. This guy complains so much about everything… maybe rooftop tents aren’t for you mate.
Love it thanks for taking the time to write such nice things :P
Sorry to say it but watching you talking and packing your rooftop tent made camping look hard 😂 , if I were you I’d stay in a hotel 😂
Camping isnt for you then I guess.
@@poordirk2710 you might have to look in the mirror with that answer 🤣😂🤣
I think if kings saw your how to video, they'd pay you to take it off RUclips 🤣
Nah they dont car about the reviews man !
That poll is a vertical poll

Setup is quick-ish if you dont want the "Moon Roof" but the shutdown is tedious. I have some tricks there coming in the next few videos..
