    The beauty and artistry of this fiendishly difficult instrumental performance is sadly not reflected in the number of likes for this video, at this time. Than you for this fantastic video!

      He is a specially trained type of singer known as a "counter-tenor" and there is a story behind this... Originally this piece was probably intended to be sung by a castrated male singer known as a "castrato." In the olden days, if a boy exhibited a stellar singing voice, he might be castrated in order to preserve his voice and thereby ensure a lucrative career for him, albeit devoid of any children. Their voices would not change much at puberty and they would develop incredible lung power for singing. Fortunately this barbaric practice finally faded out by the late 19th Century with the last aged castrato dying around 1930.
      In order to cover parts originally sung by castrati, some tenors were specially trained to develop a powerful falsetto singing voice. These gentlemen are known as "counter-tenors."
      The counter-tenors can hit the notes but I'm told that nothing will ever sound like the true castrati again.

    what kind of trumpet is that ?

    • @ericdeer5887
      @ericdeer5887 5 лет назад +5

      JONATHAN SULLIVAN it’s a modern version of natural or “Baroque” trumpet. Up till the early 19th century it was the standard trumpet

    • @bassoprimo
      @bassoprimo 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@ericdeer5887 The "Baroque" trumpet is a modern invention, with holes to assist intonation, it didn't exist in the 19th Century. The real natural trumpet (which did) is a very different beast, for a stunning example see Jean-François Madeuf with ruclips.net/video/CEJ-xcblCMo/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/bzdMv_W-p1M/видео.html .
