- Next up in the shop we have a 90's classic, the BMW Z3M. This is in for a full repaint with a few extras to throw into the mix and we're going to be taking you through it as we go.
We find out how far back you can really strip the panels off one of these, debunking the truth with whether or not every single panel can be removed.
Should BMW bring back the " clown shoe " or is it a car best left in the past? Let us know in the comment section.

You could use some more delicacy while removing panels... No wonder clips are breaking :D good luck anyways with the job.
BTW the holes on the floor give rigidity to the panel. If the panel was straight it would be wobbly. There is a special tool to do that hole and the way it's shaped and bent strengthens the panel.
I have a Z3 roadster and currently in the middle of a full underbody refresh...the inner sills on Z3s are notorious for rotting...it's 2mm box section steel...and to replace both inner sills is about 5 grand..and you can't buy them anymore..have to be salvaged..so look after them !
The holes along the sills are likely for the phosphate / e-coat process. The car bodies are fully submerged in several tanks. Allows for fast drainage and e-coating into the cavity as far as possible.
The roadsters are entirely bolt on/off, apart from the windscreen surround. I could've sold you a clean set of facelift headlights but it's hardly worth it seeing how tidy those originals came out! Great effort 👌🏼
You still got headlights for sale pal I’ll have them?
Nice one, not much out there showing how the panels come off I'm needing to do it on my roadster 👍
No wonder the locker was broken judging by the amount of force needed to loosen that one off lol if only all cars had removable quarters and sills lol the holes for strength i reckon. Nice car to be working on 👍🙂
It was so tight 🤯😅 the only other car I know of with removable skins like the quarters on this bmw are mk5 golf door skins 😎 a cool idea which should have defiantly been used more.
Holes punched in the sheet metal like that are for strengthening. I am surprised you didn’t know that.
Hi there you are doing great stuff on the z3m coupe I am a fan. I have a g power modified SC 500bhp version track/road car. Could make interesting content to work on? It is a civilised beast. Let me know I can send you full spec and photos. Kind regards Gus
Great car, love it!
