Captain returning all the stones (and hammer) is not a story we need, but it would still be an interesting story to see anyway. How did Cap rebuild the tesseract around the space stone? How did he return the mind stone without the scepter? How did he get the reality stone back into Jane? Even an animated "What if" style series of shorts explaining this stuff would be a fun watch.

Exactly. Steve created alot of problems and a huge plot hole(s). Him staying would have been a different timeline so how did he end up old back in the original? Lots of problems.

Steve's first and most important trip would have been to the house of the Ancient One. Steve does not have the ability to return the various stones to the forms they were in when first taken. For that he would need the assistance of the Sorcerer Supreme.
On Vormir, I imagine the skull would greet him by name, and by the name of one of his parents. They would peacefully reminisce, briefly, and then Steve would pull out the Soulstone, shout, "The price is too high!" and then cast the thing back into the abyss.
The music would swell, the heavens would open, and Steve would find himself laying alone in a pool of tears, empty handed. After climbing back up to the plateau, the skull would gently chide him. "As I told your associates, the exchange is everlasting. Sadly, there is no way to bring her back. I am truly sorry, mein old freund."
"It was worth a try," Steve would reply. The skull would nod, then wish his old frenemy a safe and productive journey.
After all the stones had been returned, his last stop would be to Wakanda to ask a favor of T'challa. At his request, Shuri would respin his vibranium shield on a webwork of adamantium filaments, rendering it truly indestructible as it should have been from the beginning. Wouldn't do to hand a flawed shield over to his friend and successor, would it? Then, his duties complete, he would finally yield to temptation and go off to seek romance and happiness in the past with the young and beautiful Peggy Carter.

Then AO and Cap go on an adventure to return all the stones together since she could help him repair their holdings. It would be neat to see them using the stones to return the stones.
It would end with them in 1960's? where they return the space stone and she opens a wizard portal to NYC. Then before bringing back to the right time (her time 2012 NYC) Cap would say no I got a date to make, then go be with Peggy.

Although now that I think about it, if they got it from the past, like the Avengers did all the other stones, than Captain America had to return it, so it would be there for Thanos to get later, although by destroying Thanos from the past, didn’t they create the divergent timeline(s) that they were trying to avoid, but the other timeline it will never experience Thanos collecting the stones and the “great snap,” thus allowing someone else to collect the stones for their own evil purposes?
I hadn’t considered before now that destroying Thanos from the past basically undid everything they did to avoid splitting the time line, so at that point why bother returning the stones, other than say the Tim Stone since Prof Hulk promised to return it?

Well I think Steve would be surprised to see him. He would probably be defensive at first until the Red Skull puts him at ease that he would not attack him. Then I think The Red Skull would tell him what he went threw to wind up on Vormir. Steve would probably sympathize with his situation. The Red Skull and Rogers would probably banter on both their bad decisions. Then Steve would return the stone an bid him farewell.

I wonder if Steve had the idea of returning to his former life when he set off to return the stones. Maybe it was the Red Skull who started Steve down that path. As the life Steve desired was un-obtainable until he began his quest to return the stones. The Red Skull could have reminded his old nemesis that this path, once blocked, was now open and he could take that path if he desired. A conversation like this regarding the past and paths once open would be expected from his conversation with the Red Skull. I don't remember the order that the stones were returned in. It seems like the soul stone would have been a good final quest. With his quest complete, and the timeline restored, this would have made a great chance for the Red Skull to give Steve a better perspective of the possibilities that Steve would be unable to see on his own. Who knows, just a random thought.

The stone return that would be the most interesting to see would be the return of the time stone. Due to how the returns happen. It literally happens shortly after they were taken to the timeline that they were taken from. So She hands over the gem to Banner, waits 5-10 minutes, and here comes Cap to return it. The conversation would be great as she would be expecting it and would also be able to answer various questions Cap would have about other things. The idea and the HOW to make staying behind work would likely happen with that conversation.
Returning the red stone would be kind of neat. Meeting the Asguardians and such. However they are used to such strange power and happenstance. The main thing would be Frigga wanting to know how Thor is doing. She would intentionally refuse any other knowledge, but that one bit she would want to know.
The purple power stone being returned would be...interesting. If only because the original stealing of it from that planetary vault only to then return it a few minutes later would confuse the shit out of them all.

Yes he would've probably given in to his subjucation by the stones, but i'm more interested in how he has reacted to being freed from their control. Some of that old personality might very well return. I hope this wasn't the last we've seen from him. Ross Marquand can easily continue playing him. It can easily be explained as to wearing a new mask if they want him with a normal human face i certain scenes.

I always found it poetic that a stone in which possession of it requires the individual to sacrifice what the hold dearly having to be given away by the one being who holds no other values then that of the stone. To give away the thing you seek out. I think by having cap return it he would learn of forgiveness and relinquishment of power. Something he could never do for himself hence freeing him… maybe for him to use his knowledge for honest revenge instead of lustful greed.

I'll be honest, I think the interaction went in a different direction. I believe there is still a little bit of The Red skull in there, and I believe he made some snide comment about both their lives ending after their last encounter. I believe he commented on how much Cap lost going in the ice, and compare it to what he lost. I feel it's what would have been needed to get Captain America to give it all up. Closure mixed with regret.

Steve arriving on Vormir to return a stone of unbelievable power to his arch-nemesis? What could the Red Skull possibly say to Steve to assuage Steve's mistrust of him? I just don't see Steve handing the Red Skull an Infinity Stone under any circumstance.
The other issues with returning the Infinity Stones are still very glaring. How did Steve create the Tesseract using the Space Stone so that it could be retuned to it's place on the timeline? How did Steve create the protective housing around the Mind Stone and place it in the Staff before it was returned? Did Steve simply walk up to Jane Foster on Asgard and reinject the Ether back into her? I wonder how that conversation went down.

When she whistles, she hears Nat whistle back in the distance and she smiles. We'll probably never see here again, but to me, she's still put there, doing secret missions for Nick.

I would imagine that the same thing happened to the Red Skull that happened to a lot of people - life got too real. Ambitions and views faded as time passed and he had one spirit breaking experience after another. He'd start to question everything and go on a *Doctor Strange* type quest. Where Strange found The Ancient One, Skull would find the location of the Souls Stone. Maybe there was already a guardian there and, for whatever reason (insert Red Skulls quest for the meaning of life storyline, here), he decided to take that guardians place for he/she/it could move on.
The typical villain turn hero story.

There are a lot of ways to determine the return of the stones. Yes we saw Steve dance with Peggy. We also saw pre Guardians Gamora enter into future and Steve & Tony program reprogram their "watches" to a different date after Loki ruined their first attempt. Steve had 7 jumps 1 per stone and 1 to return with. Natasha also had 1 that was never used. If cap returned the soul Stone between the time that she and Hawkeye Landed they could have went back in time together allowing the dance with Peggy to take place and not interrupt the life she was going to live. Or my favorite storyline I've come up with is this. The return of the soul stone restores a soul returning Natasha to life but causes a split in time from that point she and Steve head back in time grow old together living off the grid and then old man Steve who was somehow present at Avengers headquarters and able to give Sam the shield had been there for some time and before the jump obviously since Bucky seemed to know what was going on and who he was." had made Our Cap, Tony and Natasha know what was to come allowing them to prepare "Iron Man knew to make his goodbye video" and yet another opportunity for time to split and allow us to have those "our' versions of each appear in Secret Wars' and not another version or variant. Ideas an enlightened Cap could have gotten from speaking with the Skull.
