little push up note on the deathwatch: they will literally take a chump from a squad and return him to just be a chump in that squad- this has been canonically done during the era of "blood angels vs tyranids" and the siege of bahl, there is a story of a normal marine being taken from his squad to face the black rage alone, and being returned to his squad as an outsider, he wasnt even returned to said squad as a sergeant, veteran, or an ancient, and even if he was he still took the role of a normal ass chump- so your conversion works perfectly for anyone (:

This video inspired me to get back to work on my ridiculous dream of building an entire army of 1/18 scale primaris marine action figures customized and painted in Relictors colors. That deserves a sub if nothing else.
Knights of Gold have some of the most classic hilarious/ grimdark lore I’ve heard in a while. Truly inspiring. Will definitely have to kitbash one myself
2:04:00 For the Knights Unyielding, I think I'm actually gonna use them for my custom Death Guard loyalists. The name, lore, and (scant) official design just fits perfect. On my end, they'd have bright green armor, bone-tan pauldrons/robes, and brown panel wash. Further customizations include dark red armor trim (3rd company) and dark blue basing.
What a titanic work! It seems many liked Knights of Gold, and 40k Bretonnians are a cool idea, but Vigilators honestly feel very true to the spirit of pre-Indomitus 40k where every loyalist piece of lore promised something to explode, like, tomorrow and was really trying to be as grimdark as possible. Fire 🔥🔥
Would be funny to think that the knights of gold might be so exorbitantly rich that maybe they have tapped into a source of auramite (probably an alloy of some part ceramite, some strengthener, and gold, based on its name and the chemical symbol and prefix for gold being Au Auric) that would be bound for holy terra and the custodes if not for the exorbitant wealth of the noble families (perhaps even rogue trader dynasties?) bankrolling the chapter. Also would've been fun to add the planet being discovered by the space wolves during the great crusade, or something. Oh as for the somnus root you spoke of, that helps the vigilators sleep, I think you should look up the ghost plant, or indian pipe for inspiration of what that plant might look like. One of the rare parasitic plants that grows without sunlight at the forest floor. Also happens to be a great pain killer. Hopefully the opening of the great rift hasn't tainted their homeworld's soils...
The Chapter that I decided to start painting many years ago were the Marines Exemplar. So glad to see someone give them some love. Also have painted a few squads of Subjugators.
1:07:11 Nah, some Sons of Ferrus are just like that. There was that one rogue Iron Hand group who raided a friendly Astartes vessel just to rip someone out of their Dreadnought and throw their own guy in. Or that time when the Sons of Medusa showed up to the Badab War and the first thing they did was join a planetary invasion unannounced and sent the majority of their forces to the capital where they ransacked the place for anything valuable for like a month. Blood Ravens steal without being seen like cat burglars, Ferrus’ kids steal like a SWAT force busting down the door with a search and seizure warrant they wrote themselves
Hordes of gibbering, sleepless monster men scrawling half remembered holy words on their wax-spattered armor to stave off demons that only they know about is a super freaky visual
Sons of malice are still canon. they are referenced during the the current fall of cadia story AND the battle fleat gothic game. they are still relevant. looks good btw and will diffently use something similar when I do mine
The Vigilators are awesome. I’ve been trying to fluff out a home brew salamanders successor with the exact same mutated organs, and I gotta say, the vigilators did it better. Absolutely love it. Great work as always Lich
i love when you make thesse kind of videos, when i am building or kitbashing models there are times i get stuck thinking how should i glue or cut a bit or what can go in a certain place, and it's in those moments that i focus on your conversions and how you make and explain the lore of why they look a certain way, nd it's like it fuels my thinking juicies and i can go on with my thing, you've helped me lots dude
The lab original chapters are all amazing and incredible examples of homebrew chapters and incredibly inspiring, the Vigilators and Nights of Gold probably being my favorite, but all of them are amazing. Your videos are awesome and have helped rekindle my passion for the hobby, so keep doing what your doing.
If you ever end up revisiting the Knights of Gold for a lieutenant or something I’d love to see you incorporate the helmet from Calgar’s Honor Guard. It has that perfect mix of ornate and menacing and I feel like it’s a super underrated part.
"I am more of a builder" he says, yet he paints better than many known youtubers.. Keep up man, you re still the best on the comedy comments while painting great and untouched themes! Looking forward to more content.
I'd qualify myself as an average painter with a tolerance to freehanding at best lol. I know just enough to know how much I have yet to learn. But thank very much 😁
I will be honest here, new watcher, but I can already tell i'm going to be watching a good number of your videos. I would love to see a series from you where you tackle wacky and fun non-cannon stuff in 40k. Such as creating like... 5 - 10 conversions, paint schemes, and mini-lore blurbs for space skaven, or something else silly. Maybe tackle some Dornian/Roubouteian/Lion heresy for fun? The more the merrier, and it could give you a welcome break from trying to figure out obscure marine chapters/warbands. : P
Hello friend! Welcome to the channel. 😁 I've had a few people ask for Dornian Heresy and some groups even contacted me about some offshoot Heresy content but I'm trying to stick to a rough schedule for the next few months. It's been a while since I've done something video game related which are normally my palette cleansers but those vids usually aren't very popular and I was focused on getting to 10k subs for the milestone events we had planned. I do hope to do something non-40k soon just to have a break but the YOUR DUDES 2 event I'm currently doing is a nice change of pace at least
Oh yeah, you knocked all twenty out of the park, Lich. Especially happy to see the Sons of Malice make an appearance, everytime they show up it causes a cannon/retcon vortex lmao
2:05:25 Aluminium is correctly pronounced the British way, note the 'i' in the 'ium' that changes the pronunciation to Ah lou min ee um, as opposed to Ah loo minum which would be for the word Aluminum.
Apparently aluminum is just a US thing whereas the rest of the world says aluminium. I'm normally all for global conformity here but I absolutely love taking oddly patriotic stances on minor issues that don't matter at all so This is British propaganda, you won't TRICK me with your LIES USA USA USA USA
@TheLichsLaboratory It's not the regional variation that bothers me, it's the inconsistency. Why only "aluminum"? What about "helum", "uranum" or any of the other elements?!
Oh hey the Marines Exemplar, I remember hearing their chapter monastery was mentioned in Priests of Mars. So its cool to see you painting this really obscure Chapter from a book series I love. As well as the Night watch!!!!! I remember doing a drawing of one of their marines months ago.
@@TheLichsLaboratory You most certainly did, as well as the Crimson Scythes. Since you mentioned the Fall of Sotha, I read the book that battle was from and the way you wrote the story could easily fit in as a passing mention from the acting Chapter master of the Scythes of the Emperor; Mansirius Thracian, I guess these guys were lucky to not want to waste their time trying to reclaim Sotha, thanks to them cutting ties with them. So its really cool to see the Belisarius Cawl book also mentioned in this.
The amount of times I have come back to this video and had it get me reenergized to paint my DA army boarders on crazy. Honestly thank you for this video.
That means a ton, thank you! Being able to inspire people to work on their own stuff, whatever it may be, is one of the best things about making vids! 😁
I absolutely love the idea of the Vigilators. When I eventually started making imperium space marines I thought I'd go with the Carcharodons, but now I'm not so sure lol. I think I'd probably change up the color scheme though. Not that there's anything wrong with yours,, I just don't think I'd personally like them being mainly purple.
Another fidi mention?! Why, im honoured to have my boy appear once again, even in passing. Also, thia vid motivated me enough to actually do some painting today lol. Great work
As someone who is from Virginia (specifically Northern Virginia), I think your Tomahawk marine looks very cool, but I’d say the Khimaera Legion is my personal favorite, mostly due to the body horror. And yeah, I went on a lot of field trips when I was younger, specifically to places like Jamestown and Mount Vernon.
I'm glad you like them both! I had fun at Jamestown but my favorite place was probably Lurray Caverns up in the mountains. Less historical value but the mountain view and not-deadly-as-shit tourist caves were peak comfy
"Disclaimer: Don't Watch in one sitting" My fellow painter, you highly underestimate how thoroughly entertaining your content is, as well as informative in the ways of chapter building. I am very much in need of such a delightful evening of education as I am just getting back to 40k after a long break, and putting together a chapter of marines myself based on the legion of the damned. So yes, this video is my entire evening, and there is nothing you can do to stop me! * Throws head back and cackles like an insomniac musketeer while twirling curly mustache *

you know I was playing a game with myself seeing if I could guess the schemes you would come up with to fill out, I did pick tan because the image of a space marine climbing out of the sand like a Fremen on Arrakis and going hard and fast into an ambush sounded awesome to me, and the Tomahawk chapter kind of fits it
I'm pausing during the intro to tell you how much I'm looking forward to watching this. I have really enjoyed your videos in the past and am super pumped that I've got 3 hours of your content to watch. I got a radnom recommendation for your video and just clicked and started on a project. I was mildly surprised when you said "dont watch it in one sitting, please", looked at the length and went "well then, lets get going" :D
Not even 1/3 of the way thru this video yet but it's already incredible. So happy to have found your work, I'm looking forward to watching more of your stuff right after I finish this one lol
Feast, my child. Feast upon mine flesh and bone, draw strength from mine essence and blossom into mine avatar of destruction, dressed for war and wrought from rage. Accept mine blessing, lay low our foes and grind their kingdoms to dust. But for real, thank you!
Alright, finally reached the end. I can’t remember any of the chapter names but my personal favorite was the marine with the chaos weapons, I thought the concept was really interesting: killing that chaos marine and then realizing it was his own weapon. Incredible work on all of them man, but that was definitely my favorite.
Ah yeah the Relictors! They honestly have so much history that I had to leave out. They're really awesome though and I'm glad to have had the chance to cover them!

You absolute legend 😁 3 hours of obscure lore: absolutely unbeatable and wickedly impressive. Will edit this comment once I’ve finished watching, but I’m sure this will be good. Amazing work mate, really well done.
The lore you came up with for the Brothers Penitent is fantastic, I love the idea of carrying someone's skull into battle and fighting for their salvation post-mortem. Metal as frick 👌👌👌
Interesting thing about the Native American inspirations, there's some truly ancient fluff about the Dark Angels and one of their recruitment worlds called Plains World. The story is basically a myth about the founding of the Deathwing and why they wear bone white armor, as it honors an ancient tradition of Plains World. It's still technically canon in the sense that Plains World was just referenced in their latest Codex supplement, but the story itself is basically an universe legend they tell to new recruits into the Chapter. It's also why Deathwing usually have little feather totem bits on them. It's pretty neat, and I honestly want to try my hand at a homebrew DA successor with a Native American theme. Also gotta say as someone from the South I absolutely love that the Knights of Gold are literally just Mardi Gras Marines. Really creative color scheme and fluff.
Interesting! I never actually knew the bone white color had a significance. Learnin' something new every day 😅 And I'm glad you like them! The Knights were a pretty well-received chapter so I'm definitely looking to expand upon them a little more in the future
This was an awesome video! I love homegrown lore in wargaming of all kinds. You created some really fun and interesting custom chapters and your paintjobs are all interesting and easy to build from. Well donenonnyour herculean effort.
i've been struggling for a long time about coming up for a backstory for the Sisters of Chaos (battle) army im working on, and after watching this i have come to the conclusion that they turned heretic after being forced to fight a massive battle against demons alone while the Knights of Gold stood on a hill for a full day reading off their own accolades. which is a long way of saying that the Knights of Gold are so dumb and are probably the most fun & my favourite space marine chapter i've ever seen, i love them.
Fucking awesome. 3 hours of inspiration while painting my massive Night Lords army, and the first time i have painted ANYTHING but Blood Angels for the past 6 months...i am SO PUMPED.
I took your "don't watch it in one go" as a challenge , and watched it in one go. Great stuff, think I'll take that box of chaos marines I've had for a few years and paint them as "sons of malice.
Kinda really loving the knights of gold, I can totally see some lore that they have gotten into it with other marine chapters over how posh they are. The vigilantors are pretty sweet too
53:29 THE MOST EXTREME MENTIONED, LOVED THAT SHOW! My favorite thing on animal planet when I was like 3-6. And yeah looking back on it there's a couple episodes that probably crossed some wires in my brain I would have preferred to have remained uncrossed lmao.

Very nice! I'm glad I could help get the gears turning on your own project 😁
I love lore dives into lesser know space marine chapters awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed!
Fire 🔥🔥
Thank you! I'm a big fan of "Yeah, we're totally fucked big time m8" chapters as well 😁
Would be funny to think that the knights of gold might be so exorbitantly rich that maybe they have tapped into a source of auramite (probably an alloy of some part ceramite, some strengthener, and gold, based on its name and the chemical symbol and prefix for gold being Au Auric) that would be bound for holy terra and the custodes if not for the exorbitant wealth of the noble families (perhaps even rogue trader dynasties?) bankrolling the chapter.
It's funny you say that since as part of the extended lore, I did have them involved with auramite in some way lol. Great minds think alike 😁
You can’t convince me that the Knights of Gold aren’t Emperor’s Chikdren descendants 😂
Nah dude, Ultramarines. Totally, 100% Ultras. I would never lie to you nor do anything to imply any other possibility 😏

ISN'T IT???? I feel like I'm super close to nailing Khimaera Legion, just gotta really nail those colors
Sons of malice are still canon. they are referenced during the the current fall of cadia story AND the battle fleat gothic game. they are still relevant. looks good btw and will diffently use something similar when I do mine
The Sons are definitely still canon but Malice/Malal is where it gets a bit more uncertain. And thank you!
Never heard of you before, but this was right up my alley! Subscribed.
The Vigilators are awesome. I’ve been trying to fluff out a home brew salamanders successor with the exact same mutated organs, and I gotta say, the vigilators did it better. Absolutely love it. Great work as always Lich

Barely 8 minutes in and already subbed I can tell this is gonna be a banger
Thank you friend! Glad to have you on board 😎
i love when you make thesse kind of videos, when i am building or kitbashing models there are times i get stuck thinking how should i glue or cut a bit or what can go in a certain place, and it's in those moments that i focus on your conversions and how you make and explain the lore of why they look a certain way, nd it's like it fuels my thinking juicies and i can go on with my thing, you've helped me lots dude
Bro I love the Vigilator chapter you made. I looked on Google for beleaving they were an actual chapter because of the SOLID lor you made for them
Thank you! Im very fond of them as well and I hope I can expand on them sometime soon!
Thank you very much friend! I'm glad I could help you get inspired 😎

Im watching this in one sitting and you cant stop me

2:05:25 Aluminium is correctly pronounced the British way, note the 'i' in the 'ium' that changes the pronunciation to Ah lou min ee um, as opposed to Ah loo minum which would be for the word Aluminum.
Apparently aluminum is just a US thing whereas the rest of the world says aluminium. I'm normally all for global conformity here but I absolutely love taking oddly patriotic stances on minor issues that don't matter at all so
This is British propaganda, you won't TRICK me with your LIES
USA USA USA USA
@TheLichsLaboratory It's not the regional variation that bothers me, it's the inconsistency. Why only "aluminum"? What about "helum", "uranum" or any of the other elements?!
Your stuff always motivates me to get off my ass and get to work.
Great work as always man.
Thanks chief! Always glad to help get your ass in gear 😎
Oh hey the Marines Exemplar, I remember hearing their chapter monastery was mentioned in Priests of Mars. So its cool to see you painting this really obscure Chapter from a book series I love. As well as the Night watch!!!!! I remember doing a drawing of one of their marines months ago.
I hope I did them justice in your eyes 😁
@@TheLichsLaboratory You most certainly did, as well as the Crimson Scythes. Since you mentioned the Fall of Sotha, I read the book that battle was from and the way you wrote the story could easily fit in as a passing mention from the acting Chapter master of the Scythes of the Emperor; Mansirius Thracian, I guess these guys were lucky to not want to waste their time trying to reclaim Sotha, thanks to them cutting ties with them. So its really cool to see the Belisarius Cawl book also mentioned in this.

I had to struggle tooth and nail to not paint the fucking armor black so I feel you😅
@TheLichsLaboratory I could never paint black armor, I'd just simply die. No idea what color I'd go with that isn't purple though.
@@chaoticrevenge7950Maybe navy as a primary color? Blue is a sleepy color and making it darker could kind of imply their doomed nature
@TheLichsLaboratory yeah something like that could definitely work. I kinda want orange space marines but that wouldn't really fit the theme imo

Thank you very much man! I always appreciate your support 😁
Learnin' something new every day 😅
And I'm glad you like them! The Knights were a pretty well-received chapter so I'm definitely looking to expand upon them a little more in the future

i've been struggling for a long time about coming up for a backstory for the Sisters of Chaos (battle) army im working on, and after watching this i have come to the conclusion that they turned heretic after being forced to fight a massive battle against demons alone while the Knights of Gold stood on a hill for a full day reading off their own accolades.
which is a long way of saying that the Knights of Gold are so dumb and are probably the most fun & my favourite space marine chapter i've ever seen, i love them.
