Lyrics are sort of flowing mix I guess. Some of the historical recreations are pretty emotional for those of us whose parents uncles and neighbors served in those conflicts. Nice touch ending with the current generation. Thanks to all, especially those who paid a high price for all of us in the US and round world. Now looks like we better get our house in order.
Thank you, John. I appreciate your comments. You are spot on about how it was and how it looks like it’s going to be. I hope things are going your way and have a good day.
@@tomkuz52:Great to hear from a fan of this great singer-songwriter. I have been a fan of Steve Earle since I first heard "Copperhead Road" on the local rock radio station back in the 1980s.

I'm an American, boys, I've come a long way I was born and bred in the USA So listen up close, I've get something to say Boys, I'm buying this round Well, it took a little while, but we're in this fight Ain't going home til we've done what's right We're gonna drink Camden Town dry tonight If I have to spend my last pound When I first got to London, it was pouring down rain Met a little girl in the field canteen Painted her name on the nose of my plane Six more missions, I'm gone Well, I asked if I could stay, and she said that I might Then the warden came around, yelling, "Shut out the lights" Death raining out of the London night We made love til dawn Well, when Johnny Come Lately comes marching home Chest full of medals and a GI loan They'll be waiting at the station down in San Antone When Johnny comes marching home My P-47 is a pretty good ship She took a round coming 'cross the channel last trip I was thinking 'bout my baby and letting her rip Always got me through so far Well, they can ship me all over this great big world Never find nothing like my North End girl Taking her home with me one day, sir Soon as we win this war When Johnny Come Lately comes marching home Chest full of medals and a GI loan They'll be waiting at the station down in San Antone When Johnny comes marching home Now, my granddaddy sang me this song Told me about London when the Blitz was on How he married grandma and brought her back home A hero throughout this land Now, I'm standing on a runway in San Diego Took a Purple Heart, so I move a little slow There's nobody here, maybe nobody knows About a place called Vietnam When Johnny Come Lately comes marching home Chest full of medals and a GI loan They'll be waiting at the station down in San Antone When Johnny comes marching home When Johnny Come Lately comes marching home Chest full of medals and a GI loan They'll be waiting at the station down in San Antone When Johnny comes marching home
@Steve Earle mr. earle, i loove your music. in fact, i had the fantastic honor of being in the front row and getting a guitar pick from you when you played at the masonic temple in toronto back in the late eighties, early nineties.... yeah, i reached up to shake your hand and you gave me your guitar pick!! the best moment of my life as a music fan and the fan of a star....
Yes, I am aware. They were hard to come by. I was just trying to do something to honor those who have served and died for the country. Hope you have a good day.
you are right. it's a p-40. yeah...listen to the lyrics:'my p-47 is a pretty good ship, she took a round comin cross the channel last trip..' Btw, the p-40 never flew operations out of england. she cruised the north african skies as the RAF kittyhawk and the pacfic theatre as the war hawk, or commonly, the p-40 Flying Tiger. she might also have been seen in italy but was replaced there by the p-51A mustang and the p-51 B mustang..
Song lyrics makes no sense. If his granddad served in WW2 and married a woman and came home and he’s coming back from Vietnam and even if it was in 1975 that’s only 30 years since his granddad came back from the war in England.
And The Pogues! 👌🏼
YES the Pogues. You can definitely tell they are backing Steve.

One of Steve Earle's best songs.
I’m with you on that one

First time hearing this. Pretty danged good! Generations all same feeling
Steve Earle is the man.
Copper Head Road .One of my all time favourite CD s .
Same here. Very good stuff.
A great song. I heard it for the first time in Cuba of all places.
Steve Earle and The Pogues, a brilliant combo.
I like their take on whiskey in the jar
@@tomkuz52 Have you heard the version of whiskey in the jar by Thin Lizzy?
Yes, I have but my absolute favorite is the version by Metallica. I especially enjoy their video.
@@tomkuz52 not bad but a decent video!
There's a great doc on the making of this spirited masterpiece w the pogues!
I’d like to know what it is if you don’t mind.
Someone once told me that a man that’s seen battle will go to sleep praying for peace!
You are so right. Very few understand that kind of hell.

Well, when Johnny Come Lately comes marching home
Chest full of medals and a GI loan
They'll be waiting at the station down in San Antone
When Johnny comes marching home
My P-47 is a pretty good ship
She took a round coming 'cross the channel last trip
I was thinking 'bout my baby and letting her rip
Always got me through so far
Well, they can ship me all over this great big world
Never find nothing like my North End girl
Taking her home with me one day, sir
Soon as we win this war
When Johnny Come Lately comes marching home
Chest full of medals and a GI loan
They'll be waiting at the station down in San Antone
When Johnny comes marching home
Now, my granddaddy sang me this song
Told me about London when the Blitz was on
How he married grandma and brought her back home
A hero throughout this land
Now, I'm standing on a runway in San Diego
Took a Purple Heart, so I move a little slow
There's nobody here, maybe nobody knows
About a place called Vietnam
When Johnny Come Lately comes marching home
Chest full of medals and a GI loan
They'll be waiting at the station down in San Antone
When Johnny comes marching home
When Johnny Come Lately comes marching home
Chest full of medals and a GI loan
They'll be waiting at the station down in San Antone
When Johnny comes marching home

sweet video man
Thank you, I appreciate it. This is what I do to kill the time before it kills me.
Old gold
It's a catchy tune and a good video but , why would you sing my P47 is a pretty good ship at the same time you put a Spit on the video ?
Couldn’t find a P47. That was one of my early attempts and I was still learning. I appreciate your comment. And hope you have a good day.
where's the p-47 thunderbolt.
In museums , sometimes flying in Air Shows . Her successor , the A10 Warthog is still in service .

11th cav thanks you for the video
You are most welcome and thank you for your service.
My uncle Johnny Sullivan was in the Korean War in the Navy
I know it was a rough time. I came very close to getting drafted. My dad served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II.
Instead of a Spitfire. There is a great deal more, Thunderbolts online now. Which you could update now. Or use another American fighter aircraft.
Thank you for the tip. I appreciate that. I will look into it. I hope you’re having a good evening.
No P-47’s were filmed in the making of this video…
Yes, I am aware. They were hard to come by. I was just trying to do something to honor those who have served and died for the country. Hope you have a good day.
That's a P-40, not a P-47

Close enough for government work and poetry.
WHO cares??? Not the point of this song
