I remember being introduced to this character in the animated series , so i was surprised to find out the Macendale version was the least favourite Hobgoblin, infact he's largely detested by fans . Mark Hamills performance and the studios writing made this character actually very enjoyable.
I will always laugh at how Mark didn’t change his voice at all for both Joker and Hobgoblin and just seeing imagining them pulling the antics the other one would would be even better

He actually is a pretty unpopular character and considered among the worst Spider-Man villains. The reason Green Goblin in this series calls him "a cheap imitation" is because fans had been calling him that for years.

He's not even a goblin yet in this universe That's like saying Banksy's a bad graffiti artist for having a street name, or that Peter Parker's a bad vigilante for leaving a card that reads "courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Spider-man" on every criminal he ties up. Banksy wants attention for Banksy, and Spiderman's rep is enhanced by laying claim to his heroics. That's what causes villain on villain fights a lot of the time.
