- The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have jointly proposed a new minimum wage of N615,000 for Nigerian workers, citing the need to address the prevailing economic challenges faced by citizens and the country as a whole.
The organised labour union emphasized that the current minimum wage of N30,000 is insufficient to sustain the wellbeing of the average Nigerian worker in light of rising living costs and inflationary pressures. Furthermore, concerns were raised about the non-compliance of some state governors with the current wage award, which is set to expire in April, five years after the enactment of the Minimum Wage Act of 2019 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
