Saints need to hold on to Lattimore for now. I think Kool-Aid will be a great player but he still would be a rookie going up against veteran NFL receivers.

We all know latti is a great player when healthy but his contract is an albatross at this point. Considering that and his injury history, if a team is willing to take his contract for a draft pick even just a fifth/fourth, I think taking it is the prudent choice. It won’t have anything to do with his skills as a player but will allow the team to be more competitive relative to the salary cap from a position that the team is pretty deep at.

I really wish people who don’t understand contracts, wouldn’t talk about contracts.
The dead money is there, on the Saints books and stays on the Saints books, regardless of if Lattimore is traded.
The 30 million dollar number is ridiculous to mention, because the saints will have to account for 20 million that’s already paid to him regardless, that is factored into his 30 million dollar cap number!
The acquiring team wouldn’t pay that dead money, they’d pay Lattimore 15 million in 2024, & about 18 million per in 2025 & 2026.
That’s a very reasonable salary for a number 1 CB and nothing beyond 2024 is guaranteed.

Trading Lattimore for a conditional 5th should be a fireable offense.
The Ramsey trade is the most similar situation and he went for a 3rd. Therefore, a 3rd should be the absolute bottom dollar.

A trade involving ML would have nothing to do with talent, the talent we're giving away, or the talent we'd get in exchange through the draft. Obviously, a 4th or 5th round pick would in no way replace the talent we lose with ML. The trade, if made, would be all about cap space. The 4th or 5th round pick would just be getting what we can in addition to the savings.

I'd trade Latt (post 6/1), trade Kamara & cut Ramczyk (pre 6/1). None of those guys have moved the needle. It seems smarter to clear that $ long term so we can retain young players moving forward. Virtually digs us out of the cap hole with 3 moves. I don't get the sense Latt or AK believe in this staff or team either so let them go compete in their twilight, get something back while we can.

@@Sheriffryewhiskey trading 2 near thirty year old, expiring players is hardly 'burning it all down.' If neither will be on the team 1 year from now anyway, I'm not sure I even understand the argument to paying them what they're currently due. Not to mention we just drafted a top 75 RB & have 3 young CBs (one of which is absolutely necessary to extend). The difference of where we currently stand vs. my idea is entering next offseason -$72m over the cap vs. only -$3m. That's a drastic difference for 2 guys who aren't bought in 100% nor going to be on roster long term anyway. I got news for you, the current model is burning it all down already. We lose young talent every offseason because we're so far over the cap. We're forced to restructure bad contacts, extend dead weight. I just gave a viable solution.
