I am Filipino but Thailand has always been more popular. The numbers don't lie. It's not that people are moving from the Philippines to Thailand. More people from all over the world have always chosen Thailand more than the Philippines.
In Thailand, if you plan to stay long term, you can find a room or house for rent in the suburbs, which are not expensive. There are many of them, such as Theparak, where the train is at the end of the electric train line. The rent is about 100 dollars at best. If $100 is equal to 3,500 Thai baht, you will get a room for rent with air conditioning and a large, luxurious room for 3,500 baht. There are many places in Bangkok for 3,500 baht.
I’ve done over a hundred trips to both countries for work purposes and both have been amazing but I burned out on the Philippines after a while. Thailand is just more liveable and modern.
I have the best of both. I live in Bangkok and married to a Filipina. Thailand is better for me due to high quality healthcare, food, infrastructure, better bang for your buck.
I've been deciding between T H and P H. I've been to both. Bangkok, even Chiang Mai, has better transportation/convenience. Plus, better food and mostly, more interesting culture, because it's Buddhist. P H seemed to have friendlier people, but disappointingly, more scammers/less safety, even though P H is always touted as being "traditional", "respectful", "family-oriented", "saving face."
@@momohmart yes I agree with you on those points. The Buddhist religion seems to be a lot more friendly, or at least they seem to follow their religion more than the Catholics do.
I've lived in the Philippines for ten years, the last 8 on Siquijor. I don't know a single expat who's left for Thailand. I think many of these vlogs are aimed at getting immigration to ease up on the tourist visa. I do agree that the Philippines is expensive if you want to live well; I have never spent below 3k per month. Do not believe anyone telling you that it's doable on 1k or less per month...you would be miserable.
The Philippines has hands down the most social, friendly, loving people in the world. Their will to succeed and assimilate throughout the world is amazing. My wife`s family is poor by our standards but they have a wonderful, prevailing good nature about them. Their work ethic is second to none. Do not underestimate the future of the Philippines. Elon musk is going to help modernise that country and is investing heavily in their infrastructure already. He is even building a nice home for himself there. He loves the people and the culture. So do I.
I love your channel. Your videos are getting much better. I think you’re the best out there. And I totally understand what you’re talking about. I’m a lot like you. I think convenience and safety is the most important thing. Keep up the good work.
Encourage the Philippines. Do not give too much weight to the opinions of tourists. Just look at it as information to improve and develop your own country. Then you will benefit. Because tourists are guests, meaning they only stay temporarily. Each person has different opinions and preferences according to the culture of their home country. We cannot and do not need to struggle and devote ourselves to satisfying them in every matter and all the time. But the opinions of the citizens of the country are what are truly important because they are the owners of the country, the owners of the house, who will stay in their home for the rest of their lives. (From Thailand)
Great info JJ. Although opinion matter, in my travels to both(and both are better retirement choices than the west) you are spot on. I'll be in Thailand again February and March 3 different cities, I'll look forward to hopefully meeting up. Never been past On Nut on the BTS but I'll explore. Thank you, and I'm now following the channel
I've lived in both cities. Bangkok is one of the great cities of the world. Manila is not so great. Thai food is pretty good. Filipino food is not so good. Filipina women are generally of higher quality, character-wise and loyalty-wise. In my ideal world, I would live in Thailand with a Filipina woman. My deal killer, as far as Thailand goes, is the absurd amount the govt charges for retirement visas. And who needs Thai visa runs?
Plus in Thailand you have to open a bank account plus after 180 days you’ll have to file taxes , some people are saying that if you are on a pension/SSi you won’t get double taxed( Thailand/USA) but some are saying that you will , plus the rules change more than the Philippines and the language barrier is a problem plus 90% of the signs and information in Thai
Summary: Thailand has advantages in healthcare, infrastructure, food, and safety. It’s particularly appealing for those seeking modern amenities, reliable services, and cultural richness. The Philippines excels in language accessibility, visa policies, beaches/natural attractions, and a familiar cultural environment for Western expats. It’s ideal for retirees or those looking for a more laid-back lifestyle. Both countries offer distinct lifestyles, and the choice often depends on individual priorities like language, healthcare, or cultural appeal.

Expats leaving Thailand for the Philippines are often motivated by a combination of personal, financial, and professional factors. Here are some key reasons why this shift occurs: 1. Lower Language Barrier The Philippines is an English-speaking country, making it easier for expats to communicate, navigate daily life, and integrate socially. Thailand has a language barrier that can be challenging for long-term residents, especially outside major cities. 2. Friendlier Visa Policies The Philippines offers more relaxed visa policies for retirees, long-term residents, and digital nomads. For example: Retirement Visa (SRRV): The Philippines offers a Special Resident Retiree's Visa with attractive benefits. Many expats find Thailand's visa regulations increasingly strict and complicated, with frequent changes adding uncertainty. 3. Affordability for Retirees While Thailand is affordable, the Philippines can be even more cost-effective, particularly for housing and everyday expenses in less urbanized areas. Expats on fixed incomes, like retirees, may prefer the Philippines for its lower living costs in certain regions. 4. Cultural Similarities and Hospitality Many expats find the Filipino culture more Westernized, which can make the transition smoother. Filipinos are known for their hospitality and friendliness toward foreigners, which makes it easier to build connections. 5. Job and Business Opportunities The Philippines is a growing market for industries like outsourcing (BPO), education, and tourism. Entrepreneurs may find more opportunities in the Philippines due to its growing economy and large English-speaking workforce. 6. Closer Family Ties or Communities Some expats move to the Philippines because they have family connections or friends there. Many Westerners are married to or in relationships with Filipinos and prefer settling closer to their spouse's family. 7. Natural Beauty and Lifestyle The Philippines is home to over 7,000 islands with world-famous beaches, diving spots, and tropical landscapes (e.g., Palawan, Boracay). Some expats are drawn to the laid-back island lifestyle in the Philippines, which can feel less touristy or commercialized compared to parts of Thailand. 8. Expat Communities While Thailand has vibrant expat communities, certain areas in the Philippines (e.g., Cebu, Dumaguete, Subic Bay) also offer tight-knit expat circles with a sense of camaraderie. 9. Perceived Stability and Openness Some expats feel that the Philippines offers a more open and welcoming environment compared to recent regulatory or cultural challenges in Thailand. Property ownership for foreigners, for instance, can seem more straightforward in the Philippines (e.g., condominium ownership). 10. Personal Preferences or Change of Scenery After spending years in Thailand, some expats simply desire a change of environment and see the Philippines as a new adventure or a better fit for their lifestyle. While both Thailand and the Philippines have their unique advantages, expats often weigh these factors based on their priorities, whether it's language, cost, lifestyle, or ease of integration.

Thailand's advantages stem from its peninsula and logistics, which provide benefits similar to those of an archipelago. As a result, moving goods is much more cost-effective there. However, the Philippines is making significant progress. The Manila-Bataan Bridge is set to transform Metro Manila into a more dynamic economic hub. The Philippines has a bright future, boosted by improvements in communication and education. To fully realize this potential, the country needs to expedite its infrastructure development, and progress is indeed happening.

Would you say its much cheaper than PH?
I’ve done over a hundred trips to both countries for work purposes and both have been amazing but I burned out on the Philippines after a while. Thailand is just more liveable and modern.

So do I.
I second that. Not that I dislike Thai people...but they sure are NOT as friendly as the pinoys!!

My deal killer, as far as Thailand goes, is the absurd amount the govt charges for retirement visas. And who needs Thai visa runs?

The Philippines excels in language accessibility, visa policies, beaches/natural attractions, and a familiar cultural environment for Western expats. It’s ideal for retirees or those looking for a more laid-back lifestyle.

Expats leaving Thailand for the Philippines are often motivated by a combination of personal, financial, and professional factors. Here are some key reasons why this shift occurs:
1. Lower Language Barrier
The Philippines is an English-speaking country, making it easier for expats to communicate, navigate daily life, and integrate socially.
Thailand has a language barrier that can be challenging for long-term residents, especially outside major cities.
2. Friendlier Visa Policies
The Philippines offers more relaxed visa policies for retirees, long-term residents, and digital nomads. For example:
Retirement Visa (SRRV): The Philippines offers a Special Resident Retiree's Visa with attractive benefits.
Many expats find Thailand's visa regulations increasingly strict and complicated, with frequent changes adding uncertainty.
3. Affordability for Retirees
While Thailand is affordable, the Philippines can be even more cost-effective, particularly for housing and everyday expenses in less urbanized areas.
Expats on fixed incomes, like retirees, may prefer the Philippines for its lower living costs in certain regions.
4. Cultural Similarities and Hospitality
Many expats find the Filipino culture more Westernized, which can make the transition smoother.
Filipinos are known for their hospitality and friendliness toward foreigners, which makes it easier to build connections.
5. Job and Business Opportunities
The Philippines is a growing market for industries like outsourcing (BPO), education, and tourism.
Entrepreneurs may find more opportunities in the Philippines due to its growing economy and large English-speaking workforce.
6. Closer Family Ties or Communities
Some expats move to the Philippines because they have family connections or friends there.
Many Westerners are married to or in relationships with Filipinos and prefer settling closer to their spouse's family.
7. Natural Beauty and Lifestyle
The Philippines is home to over 7,000 islands with world-famous beaches, diving spots, and tropical landscapes (e.g., Palawan, Boracay).
Some expats are drawn to the laid-back island lifestyle in the Philippines, which can feel less touristy or commercialized compared to parts of Thailand.
8. Expat Communities
While Thailand has vibrant expat communities, certain areas in the Philippines (e.g., Cebu, Dumaguete, Subic Bay) also offer tight-knit expat circles with a sense of camaraderie.
9. Perceived Stability and Openness
Some expats feel that the Philippines offers a more open and welcoming environment compared to recent regulatory or cultural challenges in Thailand.
Property ownership for foreigners, for instance, can seem more straightforward in the Philippines (e.g., condominium ownership).
10. Personal Preferences or Change of Scenery
After spending years in Thailand, some expats simply desire a change of environment and see the Philippines as a new adventure or a better fit for their lifestyle.
While both Thailand and the Philippines have their unique advantages, expats often weigh these factors based on their priorities, whether it's language, cost, lifestyle, or ease of integration.

@@jonathanabad3917 "no thanks never been to your red light district. That’s for old white men who take advantage of girls in need." Reading comprehension!
Your comment shows that you are just an idiot. You have never even been to Thailand. Also know that in the red light districts of Thailand, there are many illegal Filipino immigrants who come to sell their bodies in Thailand and trick foreigners into believing that they are Thai and steal a lot of things.Pathetic 😂
Stop beating around the bush and say the vloggers you are referring to. Spit it out man.
Do not be as bad as them. If you got something to say, say it. Address it fully. Grab your balls and say what you need to say

You're moving in the correct direction. One more move will take you to Cambodia...
@@HemiChrysler I'm going to have to put Cambodia on my bucket list of places to visit. I've heard great things about it. Thanks for watching.
I have some thoughts on this. I'm currently in Pattaya and heading to Bangkok, and I’ve noticed that the communication barrier can be quite challenging when navigating between different locations. As for the food, it’s just average and seems to have too many triglycerides. However, I believe Sizzler(Central Park Mall), the American restaurant here, is the best dining option in Pattaya.Hilton Breakfast Buffet 😋 👌
@@angelocalima6338 cool. I haven't eaten at a Sizzlers since I was a kid.
I would highly think twice about getting advice from someone who thinks restaurant food such as "Sizzler" is the best option here in Pattaya.
@stanleykyle why Sir is true 👍. Next good thing, Hilton buffet .
Two totally different countries. Thailand has one main land mass and 71 million people and hosts 37 million visitors a year. They have more cash to develop the country. Philippines is way more spread out over a multitude of islands with 117 million people and only 7 million visitors a year. So, it’s not going to have development and infrastructure of a Thailand. That seems to be the main comparison, besides food, women, and language.
Thailand biggest sex tourism in the world hence, 37 million, half there countries population a year. Maybe half are “western gentleman “ who can’t get enough of cheap 304s 😂😂😂😂😂 No drama on RUclips from Thailand JJ? Ohhh ok 😂😂😂
@@Dalfen08 so why are you so triggered? Just curious.
Don't use Philippines for your vlog!!!! Who cares if you go to Thailand! Minus one headache of the Philippines! Hahahahah!!!!

How's the electricity prices in Th compared to Ph? 🥲
@@zendene my electric and water for the month was $45 US. About half of what I was paying in BGC. Now we're in a little cooler weather and my condo is a little smaller, but still in saving money.
@@JJthelonelybullinasiaI also want $45 USD (or lower!!!) electric bill for 500kwh consumption but alas. 🥲
Take care and have fun! ☕
