It just sucks they’re so expensive. Is much as id love to get into shooting pyromusicals at 14 years old, thats just way out of price range. I’ll stick to the cheap 12 cue Chinese systems. 😂
I recommend you split the end of the wire with the leads. Most MJG igniters are pre-split about 1/8"-1/4" back from the insulation. You minimize the risk of shorting out near the end and showing false continuity. If you want to make your life easier installing the the initiator into the smaller cake, use a good razor to cut the cardboard and paper around the fuse.
2 things, ematching is the way to go. the other thing is I learned this year when digging in next to the fuse you want to angle downward at least 1 degree, if you accident push up or not down far enough on some of these cakes you will in fact fire that first shot of your cake from the ground because you ignited both the lifting charge and the firework itself. The rest of the cake usually goes off the way it is designed to. I have video of 3 such mistakes I made this year when they blew up on the ground.
Thanks. I really needed a good electronic firing system for my next up coming backyard shows. I do shows for every holiday except for the small ones. I am doing one for thanksgiving but I will have to hand light it. Christmas and New Years will be electronically for the first time!
Cobra is a monopoly in the electronic firing industry, there's no doubt about that, and with good reason, they are a quality product with leading technology and safety. But I advise any fellow pyro that is apt in electronics as well like me, please just build your own firing system, that is what I have done and it is much cheaper and you also learn a ton!
OMG Cody I freaked out when I saw first 2 seconds! Cobra is my world favorite firing system ! no matter what comes in this video it only can get better ! THNX 4 sharing 🔝💯💥🧨💥💣😍💥😎😍💥Cobra is a most have!
If you could e fire all your fireworks, would you, or does it make more sense in some scenarios to chain fuse fireworks? I know time and money are a factor, but if they weren’t, would it make more sense to hook up each mortar to its own channel?
I'm far form a pro calling myself a noob would be an understatement. Poking a piece of metal into explosives would make me highly uncomfortable. Do you have to do it that way, or can you hook the igniter to the fuse?
It's more reliable and instant ignition this way, but you can absolutely hook the system to the fuse end. Instead of the wires shown here you would need Talon igniter clips, they're wires that simply clip on the fuse like a clothespin, though I hear they can be finicky, your mileage may etc.
Awesome vid cody!! I just love hand firing tho. I think hand lighting is half the fun itself!!! Imo. Crazy how on the dime the timing is as soon as u hit the button. It’s like Insta-fire! Lol. Cool
One video you said you are about backyard fireworks, “Class C”... So why do I see cakes in the first shot that look like you need a license to buy? Did you get a license now? Thanks
The only issue I have is that Cobra firing systems are SO expensive and not really in the budget for your average back garden display user. I personally have the 32 cue Superbfire electric system and does the job perfectly.
There are certainly a lot of firing systems to choose from, I can’t argue with that! Only ones I’ve ever used or had experience with are Cobra and FireFly, I haven’t tried the one you mentioned
CodyBPyrotechnics I’ve heard of the Firefly also, which does look great however in the U.K., there are no retailers which actually sell this. Not doubting your Cobras though as they get massive praises on the fireworks forum I use regularly👍🏼
I absolutely love e firing started with an ebay system then a cobra last year and cobra is the way togo ill b adding mods and an audio box on friday. I never thought id wanna do a pyromusical but the possibilitys of cobra made me wanna grow my ability
Hi Cody! You mentioned that you can use the MJG Initiator with NOAB's. I am wondering if you would be willing to post a video on how that is done? Most NOAB's I am familiar with don't have black powder that you can get into as the lift charge is in the shell. If you don't mind, I would love to see that (or if there is an existing video / article online, would you mind posting a link to it?) Anyway, great video's, I love watching...keep them coming!
Absolutely! There’s a smaller tube within the large 3” tube. You just have to make sure to poke through that tube that holds the lift charge too. Even if there’s just a hole there, it should be enough fire to set it off. I do have a video on this already. Look up “lighting a truckload or fireworks electronically” - in this video I shoot several NOABS with the MJG wire
Thanks Cody! I watched the video and it was very cool! If when you go to put another MJG initiator into a NOAB, consider helping an old guy out with posting a demonstration video on how you do it - visual learner here :-)! Thanks again for all you do and sharing your knowledge with all of us!
Also, FYI you helped me in my decision to purchase a new Cobra Firing System - it will be here hopefully next week and can't wait to get started using it! Thanks again for all you are doing!
Interesting! I never knew this was even a thing... I always thought the way to get it done was to get in there with real fire and give it the personal touch. This works too though. 🐻💣💥 In a way it reminds me a bit of those light controllers people use with RGB LED Christmas lights and such now; who knew there was a fireworks equivalent?

I never liked the way you hook up wires to the firing system. Bending those tiny wires and inserting 2 of them for each cake can be a huge hassle especially when you're setting off a dozen or more cakes. I hope in the future they make the tips of the wires as a tiny metal clothes pin that you clip onto a tiny metal bar. Kind of like when you hook up those jumper cables to your car's battery. That should in theory work well, and it would be easier and faster.

Chris Mackey they make a special wire just for what you described! It’s called a “Talon Ignitor” - goes right on the fuse

Off question not related to efire systems. About how many feet of fuse do you typically use for a single show?
Usually 3-4 packs, so just over 100ft

You don't need to do one for each cake. You can fuse a bunch of cakes together and then use the firing system to light that one fuse.
