Yeah, on this one I gotta agree with you, this is a Jet Li classic and it really deserved a fresh audio commentary or two. But at least they included a booklet and poster.
I totally agree with your review. An audio commentary of sorts probably would've made this release more appealing in terms of special features. I'll always prefer a commentary over a featurette because it atleast provides another full watch thru. I remember Bey Logan did sell audio files of his past commentaries, I'm not sure if they are still available or not. Never the less, it's a well overdue upgrade from the original Hong Kong VCD which I still have :)
Indeed it would have :) It's just ridiculous how they released such an upgrade with less extras than the Cineasia Blu. Didn't make sense lol Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the honest review. This one's been a personal favourite since catching it late one night 0n Channel 4 in the 90s. I skipped the 4K version and went straight for the Blu Ray. At least this one came with a booklet so not as stingy as some other recent 88 releases.
I'm just glad to finally have this film in 4K and in great quality. I know some folks like their commentaries and special features, but for me, the film and its PQ is paramount, above everything else. I don't listen to commentaries myself, though I understand why one would want to hear them. I have the Dragon Dynasty release on blu-ray and it was serviceable, though not much above DVD. I just bought this, but I do wonder when a US label will release this (and the other Jet Li 4Ks 88 has released) on 4K. I bought Fist of Legend and will buy Fong Sai Yuk 4K, thereby upgrading all my Dragon Dynasty Jet Li blus to 4K.
Absolutely! And this is the best it's ever looked for sure. I just feel they are dropping the ball on many of their releases of late and still expect top dollar for it :) Thanks for watching!
Only thing that I found rather odd is there is only 1 audio track and on their website, it look like it's not a lossless audio track. I'm a collector too but alternate audio tracks except the main tracks for the movie (english & french) don't interest me, bonus is good to have but not essential. What count for me is the A/V quality and a good packaging.
They absolutely are important and I love the art with this! But when you give less extras than the Blu-ray release before you, it's kind of a kick in the teeth to fans :S Thanks for watching!!
Yes. I got this mainly for the 4k release & the booklet. It kills me that they didn't bother including new special features. The special features are exact duplicates from the Dragon Dynasty blu-ray. I understand why they didn't include the Bey Logan commentary due to the controversy surrounding him & the Weinsteins, but they couldn't have reached to Mike Leeder & Arne Venema to get a new commentary track? What a disappointment.
How have 88 dropped the ball so badly ?? I get not everyone listens to commentary tracks or wants making of features etc but as a label ,that was one of their signs of quality. I was so excited about them putting out more Shaw films ,but the last 3 were so sparse and bare ,it's just disappointing.
They sure have. It's just happening way to often! Now they've reeled the fans in, knowing that they expect what came before, they'll start doing less - then one big one like Project A to make us think they are back on top - then meh... Such a shame!
Disappointing to hear your thoughts and comments on this release. I mean WTF does Brett Ratner have to do with the film anyway! I did have this on VCD back in the day and transferred it to VHS as the whole changing discs half way through got annoying. Anyway I have ordered the Blu-ray👍
I know right! I feel like 88 have been stripped things back and are still expecting fans to pay more. The Brett Ratner extra was pointless but from the DD release of which he did a bit for (again, only because of his Rush Hour connection). But they could have done so much more with this. Anyhoo, enjoy the Blu when it arrives. Artwork and print are amazing!!
Hey buddy thanks again for another awesome video. Be honest this time round I went for the Blu-ray because I think it sucks giving 88 more money for slightly high resolution when not only is my Tv 2 1/2 thousand pounds worth great but the upscaling on it is fantastic and 4K just doesn’t do a lot for me unless I can’t get it any other way the biggest problem is the extras. I agree with another comment. How do you drop the ball on a film this good? Anyway enough for me this is your shower. I keep saying great job.
Thanks for watching! Yes, the Blu-ray is more than enough. It's really just the print and the artwork that is worth grabbing on this occasion. Hope you enjoy it when it comes!!

Yeah such a shame. I keep telling them that I'd happily do it, but hey... Thanks for watching!

Reusing my joke again - 88 Films shrinkflation is real! 😂
It absolutely is lol

Very true - they are a bit hit and miss of late. I'd say the Blu-ray would be perfectly fine considering. Thanks for watching :)

The Tai Chi master tape you got is a Swedish sell thru release.
Cool thanks!! :)
That vhs of Thai Chi Master is Swedish release. As i norwegian i know.
Awesome thanks!
Despite the disappointment, would this be a decent pickup for someone who doesn’t have the movie in any form? I’m new to the movie.
Absolutely!! The best version of the film so far :)
As I said, absolutely :) Enjoy!!
