Nah the companies started the war, we wouldn't be having the hate if Apple and Samsung didn't make any ads that bashes each other 🙄 Edit: Jokes or not, they sow the seed, the ground zero foundation. Every companies are as good/ bad as any others. They only care about maximizing the profits, and they're definitely *not* our friend. Though one can be less predatory compared to the others because competition exists
8:44 Google needs Samsung to scale Android on a global level.. and Samsung needs Google for its software and app ecosystem. Definitely a symbiotic relationship.
The issue is that Apple doesn't care about having an opponent. If they have a rival, they'll just ask Trump to block that. They want Google Services because they can't achieve a proprietary web search engine. It will be even behind Bing. They even want to stop again Huawei "because they have a proprietary OS". WTF. They've said they don't want them to use Google services, then they've said they don't want them to NOT use Google Services. This news just felt like Americans like to praise their government, when in reality they are perhaps not any better than the others...
@josh44026 the reason of this is because Apple forces companies to use API's like webkit for google. That's why the google app is better on iPhone than on pixel (subjective). This is imo because it isn't split into two apps which is SOO annoying on my pixel 8a (affectionately called the SpongeBob phone).
Samsung DeX is the greatest thing ever. I was able to replace my home computer with my Galaxy phone because of DeX. It was also the primary reason for me to switch to Samsung Galaxy in the first place
@chefkoch7342 it really is, in one ui 8 it's getting update. I feel like they should show more support towards and too and show off samsung dex for the ads. The reason apple has so many die hard fans is because of great marketing.
Just to clarify for anyone interested. Samsung Mobile (which makes Galaxy phones) and Samsung Display (which makes screens) are two different divisions within the larger Samsung group. Samsung Mobile competes directly with Apple, but Samsung Display is actually a supplier and does not compete with Apple, it sells display panels to Apple and many other companies. Even within Samsung, the display division sells its screens to the mobile division, they don’t just hand them over for free.
@hyeong4893 Actually, Samsung is not a single company. It is a conglomerate called Samsung Group made up of many independent companies like Samsung Electronics, Samsung Heavy Industries, Samsung Life Insurance, and others. When people say ‘Samsung’ they are informally referring to the whole group, but legally and financially each company is separate. For example, Samsung Electronics is the company behind smartphones, chips, and displays. It is the one you can actually invest in, and it operates independently from Samsung Heavy Industries or Samsung Life. The divisions inside Samsung Electronics like Samsung Display or Samsung Foundry are meant to focus the business, but they still belong within Samsung Electronics. So it is not just about making more profit, it is about managing a huge global business effectively.
@2ar2betrYor the people that aren’t that well versed in the mass technology market, but are still interested and want to learn? Hope your ego felt good after saying that lol. I’m sure there’s a topic/area of interest that you’re uneducated in that you still find cool and want to delve into anyways.
stupid take. phone wars made progress. "partnership" covered in the video is the reason why smarpthone market is stagnating, there was nothing new on smartphones last 3-4 years. slightly better cpu but that's about it. three giants working alongside at trying to squeeze out other competitions - this is in fact a monopoly.
It's strange that Samsung appear to be the dominant company of the three in the dynamic, yet have the lowest profit. To me, Apple is bizarre phenomenon.
@StopMediaFakery how are they dominant? apple and google are huge companies, samsung isn't as big, but they are getting there the thing is, google makes money from ads, so they need all these other stuff but that's not what they are making money from Apple sells so much that it's a time waste for them to not use suppliers, they can sell at these high numbers because they have different suppliers for different things The relationship between Samsung and Apple, it's Samsung who will lose more if that deal goes away, one of the largest companies, Intel is on its way to bankruptcy because they couldn't adapt once Apple started making their own chips
@mii7s sure, Samsung manufacture displays, RAM and even storages, and all of those are pretty expensive parts. In 2017 there was way more renevue from manufacturing 180-200million display to iPhone X like the renevue from Galaxy S8..
3:25 back in the day when every iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad came included with a RUclips app that had no ads and came with background playback that didn't require a subscription....those were the days.
I remember this. I was one of the first in my circles to have an iPhone and I loved this. After my son smashed this one we took a break from phones/technology in general (we went back to a landline!) and when I came back to iPhone the free RUclips experience was gone. What a time.
@Feliks_WR Which is why I say it's more of a preference thing because yes android has the freedom to do those kinds of things but your average person isn't really going to use those features. The vast majority of pipeline I know use androids and not one of them has ever even downloaded an APK, Instead of being able to download an APKI would rather have a phone that can git updates for a way longer.
This kind of thing happens in so many industries. I used to be a mail carrier, and one of the things that surprised me was how closely the US Postal Service collaborates with FedEx and UPS. FedEx and UPS are very good at cheaply transporting packages long distances. And the Postal Service is very good at cheaply delivering the last mile. So both UPS and FedEx have services (UPS SurePost and FedEx SmartPost) where they deliver a package to the recipient's local post office, and the Postal Service delivers it from there. And the Postal Service, which doesn't own any aircraft themselves, has contracted with both FedEx and UPS to provide air transport for their packages.
Obligatory "can confirm" as an UPSer myself. Contractual obligations are key. As an internal data admin and externally-facing, there's your standard UPS tracking (1ZXXX) and USPS tracking (9XXX) that becomes synonymous in the process.
People who think likewise are billions in number and the opposite are groups of people very scarce. So, world is in conflict rather than in peace, who is to blame course the people in large number like you like us?
I believe if that payment between Google and Apple would stop, you would simply have same situation as is in Europe - when you setup new phone it simply asks you which default browser and search engine you would like to have

@kopalllool that is hilarious. I didn’t know copying people’s comments is a thing now. And I highly doubt there are that many competition economics on this comment feed.
Exactly right, The reality is Apple works with around 200 different manufacturing partners. The fact that RUclips always mentions Samsung is getting very boring.
This video talks about how competitors need each other. Another example is how Samsung eventually favorites Gemini over Bixby. Bottom line is, competitors need each other, whether it's software or hardware.
and then you have xiaomi and huawei laughing in the corner... Xiaomi makes their own displays and basically every other component except for snapdragon chips which they buy from taiwan. Funny how Google, Samsung and Apple need eachother but many chinese brands just sit in the corner laughing cuz well, if android dies, they have huawei harmony OS (based on stolen android code XD) and pretty much every other component they just make, huawei has facilities that produce chips so china trully is independant.
1:45. - Not to mention that in order for Samsung displays to be economically viable at the price they want, they NEED to have customers such as Apple in order to build enough capacity and enough economies of scale. If they stopped producing for Apple, that would make their screens more expensive to make per unit, so eat into their profits.
This is not a question of viability, but rather of apple investing in samsung's innovations, and if samsung does not supply such displays, then in the end sales will increase, and therefore profits. If you think that apple or samsung themselves invest in new technologies, then you are mistaken. Every product purchased is an investment by the user in a new generation of devices.
1:17 well they would absolutely never do that because that would basically be them saying “ no we would like to lose trillions of dollars thank you though”
Shortest attention span in the world, people. Bro could not even wait twenty seconds to see what he had to say. No, he HAD to write a comment disproving a hypothetical that was posed solely so the presenter of the video could explain why it is wrong. Here we see the classic know it all, ready to disprove others at the drop of a hat, but usually just embarrassing themselves instead.
Microsoft and Samsung are also relatively intertwined vs most other phone manufacturers in windows at least. Phone Link works best with a Samsung phone for example.
it only needed to happen way earlier but Microsoft was busy with there Windows Phone and fighting with google instead of making android work with Windows like iOS and MacOS did work together since day one but its never to late and Phone Link is still great even if it came a little late
True. The best way thus far to have interconnected pc and phone (without buying everything from Samsung) is a Samsung phone with windows. I hope they do more
In 2023 Samsung tried to ban all aftermarket OLEDs from being imported into the US, which would've crippled the phone repair industry since nearly every phone uses their displays. Thankfully they failed to do it, but still scary what happens when 1 company has so much control.
Probably you won't see my reply, but I'll still say it. They have so much control in the display market because their displays are so good. But the problem is that if another company tries to rise in the display market, they will probably try to shut it down if they see it as a threat. Because there is virtually no competition, they would increase prices as they please, and if they were successful in banning all aftermarket displays, their profit margins would be skyrocketed.
Funny how even if Google stops paying Apple and they ditch it as the default search engine, most people would still go out of their way to use Google anyway. Just shows how much everyone’s used to it.
that is simply not true. i would go to great lengths to use google as my default search engine. however like mkbhd said “most people do not change the default search engine” which is true
A year ago I would’ve agreed, I’d go to great lengths to keep using google search. However lately idk man, I’ve been feeling pretty frustrated with it, like with all the SEO and bullshit articles, long lists of sponsored results, that it feels like a 1/3rd of my searches include “Reddit” at the end anyways, and that I can’t search through memes easily (like searching for an Instagram reel or TikTok I saw a few months ago, which I AM able to do with a RUclips video) I’m starting to get fed up with google search!
They loved Samsung and Samsung love google too, thats how friends should be. This shows us that these companies are not each other enemies, so we consumers must buy what we need and stop the fuss because they are all 3 top notch companies.
@chasingdogs React and Angular are JavaScript frameworks used for building everything from websites to applications. JavaScript is a popular web development programming language
@chasingdogsBoth of these are Front end frameworks (although react is technically a library) for web development. To put it simply, they are used to make a website's user interfaces.
Also many features in android came from samsung's android skin whether it is ONE ui or back then Experience ui , Touchwiz . Samsung first released them in their custom ui skins later it gets implemented in the Android updates .
People that can afford iPhones are exactly the kinds of people you want to show ads to because they are likely to have money to spend. No wonder Google wants to be the default search on top smartphones.
Very informative video, something a lot of people don't consciously think about but is still important in how the tech world operates. Thanks for sharing!
It’s wild how these massive companies battle on one hand but rely on each other behind the scenes, like when i keep tabs on brand visibility with AICarma for our stuff too.
Same as in real life with countries, government and big companies. In public they shout but behind the scenes they need each other to make money. Money talks.
ÀaSamsung makes screens,RAM and storage for iPhones, iPads, MacBooks etc Samsung also manufacturers the Tensor chip for the Pixel, tho they're moving to Qualcomm soon Samsung is a HUGE supply company for both, they all need each other Edit:I meant to say TSMC not Qualcomm
Also competition needs to exist for us customers, If you Wana know what happens when competition is lost, look at the console market and the 700$ ps5 pro without a stand and no disk drive
can we give this guy some credit for the way his videos are put together? A lot of RUclipsrs put together videos where there are cuts between almost every word they say. When I say that, its no an exaggeration. Ive never understood how some people can't put together more than two words consecutively without needing to cut the video. MKB does all his videos in what looks like damn near one take.
5:02 .....would the $20 billion not already be included in Google's business expenses for advertising/marketing?? Why would it come off the net profit which would make it $80 billion and not $100b?
United we stand Divided we fall Humans thrive when they work together.Individually we are weaker Everything we work on,goes through multiple teams of people.
What’s crazy to me is how valuable those searches are. We all know the saying “if something is free, then you’re the product” and I guess Google has figured out the number of how much that’s worth to them. Apparently more than $20B, or roughly $15 per iPhone user per year.
It's part of the revenue Google makes from searches on iOS and as far as I know Apple has an agreement like this with all the search providers available on iOS. The number that's being thrown around is 36% of the revenue this shows how much money Google makes from iOS users.
This is what tech reviews should be other than showcasing products. This shows your depth of knowledge about tech and their businesses. And how the industry works… loved it
Actually, it's not the companies that hate each other; it's the people who use their devices who hate each other.
Lol
Nah the companies started the war, we wouldn't be having the hate if Apple and Samsung didn't make any ads that bashes each other 🙄
Edit: Jokes or not, they sow the seed, the ground zero foundation. Every companies are as good/ bad as any others. They only care about maximizing the profits, and they're definitely *not* our friend. Though one can be less predatory compared to the others because competition exists
companies never really hate each other, they just compete
I agree with you on that one@totallostig
@KokodesuyooooI would argue that it was a way to make their devices more popular.
I believe both companies sit together and laugh at us when they see us fighting over which is better 😂
What's the third company doing then?
@emuccino playing sega saturn
I was about to say the same thing in my own comment it’s sort of like the military we crack jokes on each other but we all fight for the same cause
@emuccino
I use the third company too
As a matter of fact i use all 3 😅
Only kids and the unemployed fight about which device is “better”
8:44 Google needs Samsung to scale Android on a global level.. and Samsung needs Google for its software and app ecosystem. Definitely a symbiotic relationship.
Well fun fact they actually work together when you search it up lol.
I know someone that used to work for Samsung, and he said internally, they referred to Apple as LO, which stood for "loved opponent"
Oh interesting. Apple probably isn't the only one i would assume
@MikeKnopsthe biggest one for sure tho
The issue is that Apple doesn't care about having an opponent.
If they have a rival, they'll just ask Trump to block that.
They want Google Services because they can't achieve a proprietary web search engine. It will be even behind Bing.

In my experience apple pro max has better battery life especially if you use RUclips premium
Also, the new Android 16 desktop mode is based off of the foundation Samsung Dex and Google is working with Samsung to bring desktop mode to Android .
Samsung DeX is the greatest thing ever. I was able to replace my home computer with my Galaxy phone because of DeX. It was also the primary reason for me to switch to Samsung Galaxy in the first place
💯
Exactly how Quick Share from Samsung now it's Quick Share for Android
@chefkoch7342 it really is, in one ui 8 it's getting update. I feel like they should show more support towards and too and show off samsung dex for the ads. The reason apple has so many die hard fans is because of great marketing.
A lot of Android features are what Google takes from other oems. For example, I heard the battery saver logic comes from Sony

wow, thanks for the clarification
It's good vertical integration, but also, the parent company is still samsung.

This is the main reason why phone wars are the dumbest things ever.
Glazing a mega corporation is generally weird. You can like their products but you shouldn’t be emotionally attached to them
Nah, samsung for life
I know, right just get a PC
stupid take. phone wars made progress.

Divided by ecosystems, united by economics.

Marques deserves every single one of his 20,000,000 subscribers. Such a good video.

There are still workarounds to make RUclips ads-free and background playback.

Yup I was comming to comment section to say that
Lesson Learned:
We all need each other in this world. Peace.
"It's the friends we make along the way" + "Everything is connected by the force" ahh reality 💀🙏
No just no. Youre not funny@seamali4383
HA HA HA . try telling the yellow minions who are in power in the US that

And what will you choose..😊
@skyhigh9474 DuckDuckGo!
This is so curious - who chooses which options show up on the list?
@skyhigh9474 Brave and search engine chromium
@mkbhdreminds me when EU forced Microsoft to give Windows users a choice of default browsers in 2010
...when IE was a thing lol
never thought about them needing each other
one of the few MKBHD videos without an exclamation mark in the title!
Bro what the hell😂😂
How does anyone even notice that
It's like jerry rig everything. Every once in a while he doesn't put a red arrow in the thumbnail. Like very rarely. That red arrows putting in work!
@gameeverything816 bro 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I never noticed the red arrow to now lol
@jhaysoncarter I can never see the end of titles on mobile, it gets cut off. I think some youtubers do it on purpose for clickbate
Great video. Thank you.
Now we need “Why Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo need each other” video.
Why can't you make it yourself and post
@rajeevrajagopal4075 because making videos is hard
Good idea, but their situation is way more different than this one.
Their relationship is not as symbiotic between them as the one in this video, and I'd argue they rely on other companies more than between them. They are actually competing between them from the payments for exclusivity of certain titles to not being able to use, for example, an xbox controller in a Nintendo switch without an adapter.
He doesn't know much about the gaming industry
@hamza-chaudhrynever underestimate marques
They are rivals, not enemies
As both a competition economist and a tech enthusiast, it makes me so happy that the biggest tech youtuber is covering these antitrust issues and bringing them into the mainstream!
Competition economist? Lmao what a nerd 😂
@Osaaamaaa Your reply is so ridiculous but it made me laugh harder than you think 😂
I didn't even know competition economist was a thing until now, ya learn something new everyday!
Also, nerd!🤓🫵
(nerds are awesome dw
There are like three comments sayin the same exact thing...
@kopalllool that is hilarious. I didn’t know copying people’s comments is a thing now. And I highly doubt there are that many competition economics on this comment feed.
Now this is the reason why I'm subscribed to this channel. Not just for tech reviews but also for more knowledge related to tech.
Haha, good one.
Yeah these the good ones👌
good one, pleb
4:09 that’s crazy and they don’t have to pay anything
Google would lose millions of users to competitor that would pay
3:44 i'd suprise when i see gemini showed up on my phone
It's not personal, just business
Samsung oled screens on iphone devices is like SONY's camera hardware on Apple. It's a WIN-WIN for both companies
Exactly right, The reality is Apple works with around 200 different manufacturing partners. The fact that RUclips always mentions Samsung is getting very boring.
You forgot to mention that Android's airdrop feature aka Nearby Share.. was replaced with Samsung's Quick Share
Wait what? Nearby Share isn’t the default anymore? Even on a non-Pixel or Samsung device?
Yup @kanishkthe3rd
@kanishkthe3rdi said it was replaced with Samsung's quick share, this happened back in feb 2024
This video talks about how competitors need each other. Another example is how Samsung eventually favorites Gemini over Bixby. Bottom line is, competitors need each other, whether it's software or hardware.
@leonico86It's not replaced it's just a name change.
no permanent enemy, but permanent interest.
The fact that apple was going to build a damn car but not a web search
3 tech giants paying each other off to remain on top
the illusion of choice
they are all under blackrock so yea it really is a illusion of choice
Pretty much, yeah
Kinda true 😂

MJ and chuck used to golf together between playoff games
In 2023 Samsung tried to ban all aftermarket OLEDs from being imported into the US, which would've crippled the phone repair industry since nearly every phone uses their displays. Thankfully they failed to do it, but still scary what happens when 1 company has so much control.
Nice to see you here. Also, thank you for talking about this problem.

0:11 not you with the Aaron the plumber quote. You out here watching pop the balloon MKBHD I’m going to need you to shed some light “in a real way”
As soon as I heard him say it, I thought about Aaron the Plumber 😂😂😂
Was wondering if anyone caught that😂
And at 8:45 “in a real way”🤣🤣
Broduski definitely been watching Aaron 😂😂😂
Lol…that saying is old and YG been saying that over 10 years. You need to go outside more 🤣
who would have thought monopolies are bad for everyone
Funny how even if Google stops paying Apple and they ditch it as the default search engine, most people would still go out of their way to use Google anyway. Just shows how much everyone’s used to it.
that is simply not true. i would go to great lengths to use google as my default search engine. however like mkbhd said “most people do not change the default search engine” which is true
The funny thing is that this is probably why everyone is used to it.
Very true. I've seen tons of people purposely install chrome or switch to Google search engine just because they prefer it.

Yh mate 😅
They loved Samsung and Samsung love google too, thats how friends should be. This shows us that these companies are not each other enemies, so we consumers must buy what we need and stop the fuss because they are all 3 top notch companies.
Google and Samsung love each other ❤
"money will keep talkin 4 sho"
So in short all 3 companies goes hand in hand
At yesterday’s Google developer event, they used the React framework (by Facebook) for all the demos instead of their own Angular framework
what is that? would love to know more.
0:14 Hi! Thanks for sharing our Anti-Reflective Screen comparison Shorts🙏🙏
Also many features in android came from samsung's android skin whether it is ONE ui or back then Experience ui , Touchwiz . Samsung first released them in their custom ui skins later it gets implemented in the Android updates .
Exactly
@8:35 hey its Dieter 😆
i just realized that i haven't seen him since he left the verge.
lowkey apple shoud have thier own search bar
Really liked the video
Using Tablets mainly for Note taking, Book reading & Media
I knew Google paid apple to be default search engine, but twenty BILLION is an insane amount.
People that can afford iPhones are exactly the kinds of people you want to show ads to because they are likely to have money to spend. No wonder Google wants to be the default search on top smartphones.
2:47 Apple and Google have been working together since the 1st gen iPhone. The first iPhone also had green messaging bubbles 😂
arent u the guy who broom broom in porsh too fast in a education zone
everyone needs everyone
Very informative video, something a lot of people don't consciously think about but is still important in how the tech world operates. Thanks for sharing!
lowkey interesting how they all need each other
Ironically i knew about all yhe facts already but mkbhd made me watch the whole vid
DAMN wish Samsung had continue their Tizen Os on phones
did mkbhd quote a bot
Bro please do youtube trasnlatemode audio in your videos
Marques, you just got yourself a new subscriber with this video. Very informative.
B2B is always different and without fights usually
It’s wild how these massive companies battle on one hand but rely on each other behind the scenes, like when i keep tabs on brand visibility with AICarma for our stuff too.
Botted comment
Same as in real life with countries, government and big companies. In public they shout but behind the scenes they need each other to make money. Money talks.
1984 moment
That like...door knocking/car-door closing sound at 6:15 is really evil....why was that there?
Kinda like how ⋈ MKBHD, RUclips & myself need each other
❤❤❤
❤
❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤
People must understand the difference between Business and Rivalry.
yeah, it is like the video mentioned, they need each other
When Huawei was projected to outsell Apple with their phones. The government literally tanked the company.
ÀaSamsung makes screens,RAM and storage for iPhones, iPads, MacBooks etc
Samsung also manufacturers the Tensor chip for the Pixel, tho they're moving to Qualcomm soon
Samsung is a HUGE supply company for both, they all need each other
Edit:I meant to say TSMC not Qualcomm
They're moving to TSMC I believe.
@sddrx6000yeah, was about to type that
and they also make ships, submarines and some fighter jets )
Also they do tv and they have hospitals as well 😂
@sddrx6000 so TSMC but still.... Exynos?
Essentially a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” situation
So they all need Samsung apparently !
And Samsung needs the money
The cycle of copying each other from these 3 is to me an important part of the industry. Cant change my mind.
Bro predicted the iPhone Air
Google pay Apple $20B a year just to default the iPhone search engine to Google. That is mad
And all of the above need Sony in some way🤔🤔🤔
And it may be the reason behind for pixel is still not available in Middle East 🤔
The kind of videos I follow you for
True example of "Keep your friends close, but your enemies Closer". 💀
that's why they both have the green line display issue
8:55 Remember it? I use it literally every day. I never knew I needed it so bad.
I use google gemni every day its literally my assistant im not use to having a "real assistant"
reminds of the philosophy that everything is connected of sorts and we as living beings need each other like we need trees, etc
It's always better when everyone works together!
And Marques needs all of them
0:17 Bro feel for the bought account ragebait
Apple fnboy here 😂😂
@yshhh07absolutely not, just talking abt the comment
Turns out, Apple is pretty powerful.
Посмотрел только для того, чтобы послушать нейронный перевод звуковой дорожки и это уже похоже на киберпанк
This is the main reason why phone wars are the dumbest things ever.. Who joined Elons Xaitonk?
The xAI is energy efficient and scaling, nothing comes close imo
Competition breeds innovation. Innovation benefits the consumer.
The competition itself also drives sales so they're more than happy to let people believe that there's a rivalry
5:02 .....would the $20 billion not already be included in Google's business expenses for advertising/marketing?? Why would it come off the net profit which would make it $80 billion and not $100b?
Divided by ecosystems, united by economics. All should know Xaitonk.
Good that they got it working in time! Let's go!
This should be in mainstream media, XAI is another level
Same reason countries can hate each other but still trade
At the end of the day, we all need each other.
United we stand
Divided we fall
Humans thrive when they work together.Individually we are weaker
Everything we work on,goes through multiple teams of people.
I don't
@jhinabloomingflower807 powerful stuff
Now thats beautiful 🥹
@louiemalgre2797 oh no, Louie doesn’t need us 😔
10:14 No way google is scared of bixby
I have an s20, and bibxy is really good for controlling the phone, it has more access than Google assist 😊
Tbh bixby does really well when it comes to system level stuff, they're just not as great as a chatbot (until now)
Not of Bixby, Chatgpt
Its not scared of bixby bruh its scared of chatgpt because it is much more popular rn
@kamalkylaureanothat's not a search engine so it should 😅
Nice summary.
