Thank you Kendra for this video!! I was pressured by my dad to do computer science. I respect my dad and I trusted his advice so I took the necessary classes in community college to transfer. I got accepted to a pretty good school and everyone around me was proud of me. But it wasn't what I was truly passionate in. Ever since I took a psychology course, I've always wanted to major in it. I told my counselor how I wanted to major in psych and she told me I'm more suited for computer science. The majority of people around me (dad, counselor, therapist, acquaintances, brother, etc.) told me to major in computer science. So I did, but I was absolutely miserable. Sure I got A's and B's in my classes but that's because I put so much effort into them... but I despised my computer science classes. They were definitely my least favorite. I wanted to major in psychology because it was the most interesting to me and I wanted to help other people. I was diagnosed with a mental illness (bipolar 1) and my passion in mental health grew from there.
I was majoring in computer science for the wrong reasons. Sure money and job prospects are nice but when that becomes your main motivating factor, it becomes deadening and there was no spark to make me passionate in it. I came across your video Kendra and also read the book you mentioned and it was a big eye-opener that I should pursue what God wants me to do and that was psychology. I prayed and prayed. I talked to my loved ones about it. But I'm mostly listening to God about this. I know the world will think I'm crazy for dropping computer science but we're not going to be in this world forever. Our forever will be in heaven and God isn't going to judge me based on how much I make but rather how I honored Him in the world. I'll be taking psych courses in the summer and I'm very excited!! I'm excited for my new journey to start and can't wait for the blessings that God will give me along the way for following His will. Thank you so much for the video ❤

This was helpful for me, it reminded me of what God has been telling me about not just choosing a major through the filter of how much money I could make. I just got the Timothy Keller book and I'm trying to choose a new major right now but am stuck in the research phase. If you are still open to helping me process/talk through it...I would appreciate that.
