    The European

    • @EnglishwithRatna
      @EnglishwithRatna  Год назад +6

      Yes, you are right.
      But this is in context with indefinite article.
      So, a European is correct.
      With some adjectives of nationality denoting the people, definite article is used i.e "the".
      Like
      The European claimed that the money had not been paid.
      "The", this is definite article.

    ❤The hour

    • @EnglishwithRatna
      @EnglishwithRatna  7 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, "the hour" is correct as an article phrase in English grammar. "The" is a definite article used to specify a particular noun, in this case, "hour." It indicates that the speaker or writer is referring to a specific hour, as opposed to any hour in general.
      For example:
      - "I will meet you at "the hour" of six."
      - "The doctor's appointment is scheduled for "the hour" of three."
      In both instances, "the hour" specifies a particular time, distinguishing it from other hours.

    _______Language?

    • @EnglishwithRatna
      @EnglishwithRatna  3 месяца назад

      The "zero article" applies to names of languages and nationalities, as with Chinese or English. For example, "Spanish is spoken in Spain." But if you are describing the people of that country, use the definite article.
      Use the definite article when the word language immediately follows the name of a language. English is hard. The English language is hard.
      Hope, these are helpful.

    An Hair may be wrong

    • @EnglishwithRatna
      @EnglishwithRatna  7 месяцев назад

      "An Hair" is incorrect. The correct article to use with "hair" is "a" because "hair" begins with a consonant sound. The use of "an" is reserved for words that begin with vowel sounds. Therefore, the correct phrase would be "A Hair."

      A and an are different forms of the indefinite article. Words where the “h” is silent, such as honor or honest, use “an” instead of “a.” Since the “h” in “hour” is silent, it is “an hour” instead of “a hour.”

    • @EnglishwithRatna
      @EnglishwithRatna  8 месяцев назад +1

      The usage of "the university" and "a university" as articles depends on the context in which they are used.
      1. **"The University":**
      - "The university" is used when referring to a specific university that is known to the speaker and the listener or is already mentioned in the conversation.
      - Example: "I am studying at the university in my town." Here, "the university" refers to a specific university in the speaker's town that both the speaker and the listener are aware of.
      2. **"A University":**
      - "A university" is used when referring to any university in general or when the specific university is not yet identified or known to the listener.
      - Example: "She wants to attend a university in another city." Here, "a university" refers to any university in the city that the speaker's friend wishes to attend, and the specific university is not identified.
      In summary, "the university" is specific and refers to a particular institution, while "a university" is more general and can refer to any university without specifying a particular one.

      The usage of "a university" instead of "an university" :-
      As articles depend on the context and the pronunciation of the word following the article.
      The article "an" is used before words that begin with a vowel sound, while "a" is used before words that begin with a consonant sound.
      In the case of "university," although it begins with the vowel letter 'u', the sound that follows is a consonant sound "yu" Therefore, we use "a university" instead of "an university."
