The James Brand always FRUSTRATES me because of the kind of money they charge for their knives! These blades are cool, but too high in price IMO!

i always lose my box openers. this one is solid. sleek and easy to use
I know it's late, but the reason it doesn't come out far is so you can use it for more things. For instance, I use it for carving into multiple different kinds of sculptures (artist - different 3d print materials, wood, wax) if you watch their video, the best example is the surf board artist shows you a prime example of the purpose. For comparison, I got one of those utility knifes off Amazon with the automatic feature because I thought it would be cool to have that one along with a Microtech auto knife in my EDC & all that, matchy matchy, but I found because the razor came out so far & the blade changing mechanism has you push back on the blade to release, if I tried to carve in a shading fashion it would have so much bend & flimsy movement on the blade that it didn't work. So, based on the design & video of The Palmer, I think it's meant to be a more full capable utility knife, like you can do more with it. That being said, the only thing I've encountered where I wanted to use it but didn't impress is in my day job as a mechanic I went to cut a couple feet of cooling hose off a reel & the blade not coming out further made it a little annoying. But otherwise, I think The Palmer is great, when cutting packages open it's nice it doesn't go in deeper & damage anything inside when I let my gf use it for that etc.

$60 for a utility knife is a bit steep for me.
They boxed up a $2 box of blades for what $10. You can buy the same little package of blades at Lowes. Just seems like spending lots of money for nothing
They shipped them right to me all fancy like though so it felt special
Actually scored one of these for 30% off on Gallantry since I had a discount code that was unused. Honestly? For about $45 shipped, I felt like it was at least solid, price-wise. At the very least, it was a better value than the CIVIVI Mandate, which was a 9Cr, resharpenable-in-theory-utility knife that cost $90+. Ironically, the Wayland is the one and only other knife I bought (albeit second hand) from TJB that I felt was legitimately worth it. The action is unusual on mine. It's not mushy, but it almost feels hydraulic. Had it checked by Rob over at TheApostleP (whom I bought it from) and it's not defective, either, so I think that's how they intended it to feel. As far as TJB's OEMs, I think they're QSP, Sanrenmu (the Folsom is DEFINITELY Sanrenmu, as is the Ellis) and Bestech.
I still think their stuff if overpriced but the duval is reate made and pretty sweet:) nice knife too!
Duval is Reate? No way. I got one and it had pretty bad QC issues. And wasn’t shrink wrapped. Idk if i believe it. U mean the Barnes?
Gotta disagree on this one. Nowhere near enough blade sticking out and the blade edge not being flush with the body reduces usability even further, more overpriced nonsense from The James Brand. 😒 The slip joint isn't quite as bad.

All the utility knives ive seen like this have the same amount of blade. I think it’s because of the notches in the blade
Take a look at the razor gen 2 by surge panchenko, 150gbp but it uses almost all the blade and is a slipjoint so it's equally award for Letts and is dirty right handers
You can get a good Irwin that does the exact same thing and actually fits your hand for less than $20. Just don't see $100 for a utility knife. Much less that little bitty one for nearly the same thing
