"The Magician's Elephant" is an adaptation of a 2009 novel of the same name that was written by Pennsylvania writer Katrina Elizabeth DiCamillo. Kate (as she is generally called) has been moderately famous for several American Fantasy novels that she has written from the year 2000 until the last novel of hers ("The Beatryce Prophecy") that she came out in the year 2021.
So far, only five of her novels have been adapted into a film format: "Because of Winn-Dixie" in 2005 (which has a Dog as its main focus); "The Tale of Despereaux" in 2008 (which seems to be the most popular and remembered, although criticized for several understandable things, but also for other very silly ones); "Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures" in 2021 (distributed by Disney+), "The Tiger Rising" in 2022 (which is about a boy who finds an adult Tiger living near his house and they form a bond) and is film as the fifth from Nerflix.
I personally have only seen this film and Despereaux's as my only approach, but in general they are of very applaudable quality. Although with what is appreciated about the writer, perhaps it is either difficult to adapt her vision well to get something more exceptional, or the material is simply not powerful enough to get much out of it.
