I live on US 50 near DC. Best cross country trip without getting on interstates. Me and my brother did the same route in spring this year from Aldie, VA to SF. Almost same overnight stops, lol. Thanks for recording.
I laughed when you said "It took me five days but you can drive it in as little or as long as you like". Reminded me of the Steve Martin witticism "You can get anywhere in ten minutes if you drive fast enough"
That sounds great! I have so many drives I want to do…but unfortunately I have to work full-time and save money to go on these trips. I hope to one day be able to earn enough money from this channel so I can travel around full time making videos. Trust me- US-1 is on my bucket list!
Finally a drive video with all the reference information I love! One of the great final times hanging with my late father was driving from St.Louis to San Francisco and he insisted we take "The Loneliest Road in America" through the great state of Nevada. Great work! Thank you!
its funny because I live right at the start of US-50 so I theoretically could just go drive down it today if I really wanted to. it was fun seeing all of the places I recognized in ocean city. infact thats my old high school to the left at 1:00
You gotta do it!! Summertime you’re almost guaranteed good weather but the downside is the wildfire smoke from the west coast can make the views a bit smoky.
Oh my goodness yes! But I actually drove through DC on a Saturday so it could have been a billion times worse! However, I am from northern Virginia so I am somewhat used to traffic even though I don’t necessarily enjoy it. But if I’m ever traveling to DC for whatever reason, I always metro in! Trying to park in DC is a nightmare. Glad I was only passing through on this trip!
@@jendrives Ah, cool. I live in Florida, and there's a LOT of scenic driving that can be done here. I wasn't planning on moving down this way, mind you: I was just driving around the Smithsonian looking for a place to park, and, well... 😳
@ToABrighterFuture I love Florida. Hope to do some more driving down there in the future. I have a couple of videos of me driving down to PCB from Atlanta and then back to Virginia. :)
Thanks for uploading Jenn. Being an old geek, I am curious about how you did the overlays. Are they part of the GoPro software? I like seeing the positions on the various maps, the compass headings and the elevation profile.
Thank you so much for watching! My GoPro records GPS data when I am recording video. Then, I use a program called Telemetry Overlay to import my video and overlay all of the GPS data. I can’t watch Timelapse driving videos anymore unless they have GPS Information on them. It drives me crazy if it doesn’t. Which is why I make my own videos now. ;) Glad to see other nerds out there like me. Thanks so much!
@@jendrives Thank you for the quick reply Jen. I will check out that program. I am with you, I almost have to have the extra information now, especially after seeing yours. I have been thinking about doing this same drive for years having lived on Kent Island and now in NOVA.
It was tempting but I didn’t want to reach an unsafe speed and risk something happening and losing control of the car. A car accident out there would mean I would be stranded for quite some time. I believe the max speed limit was 70 so I think I was already doing 10 over at some points. 😂
Nothing too crazy but I missed a turn heading out of Fallon so I had to turn around. But I edited that part out. The app I had decided to use for navigation was really buggy so I had to rely a lot on road signs. They were pretty easy to follow!
A marathon driver could probably do it in about three days, averaging about 1,000-1,200 miles per day, but it would be a herculean push. However, to drive that much in a day would require driving with few if any stops all the way from sunrise to sunset each day on the road, and even then, it would require both people in the front row of the car to be capable of doing the driving.
I appreciate the feedback. I figured there’s not a song out there that’s universally liked by everyone so I tried my bestest. I tried to match the genre of music to the part of the country I was driving through ie. West Virginia was more bluegrassy where out west was more country rock. I didn’t intend to put so much “country” but that’s just kind of what I felt matched the video. ‘MURICA! Don’t worry, I have plans to add a slower version with “relaxing” music if someone wants to use it to sleep. What kind of genres do you like?
The Timelapse speed shows what traveling at jetliner speeds would look like at ground level!

Finally finished it LOL... that was great, thanks Jen! Now do US-1 from Ft Kent, ME to Key West, FL!

LOVE THIS! Been planning this drive for a couple years as well. Now I have to do it!

I recommend Spring
Great video! I just wanted to point out that you enter Mountain time in Hamilton County KS along us 50 .
Hey thank you so much! That’s so weird that the time zones don’t go along state lines!!
Rush hour traffic, in DC, is one heckuva way to get your day started. 😖 Props.

did this eastbound a few years ago. central nevada is beautiful.
Oh it is! Make sure you’re subscribed to my channel so you know when I post my return trip on I-80 across Nevada!
Why was it so dark in Ely,NV at 8 something in the morning in August? That time of year, the sun is up at about 5:40 am.
The camera remained recording in Eastern Time Zone. I noted that at 4:25:12 on screen when I crossed the Nevada/Pacific Time Zone.
The lonely road is a good way to test the top speed of your car!
They still have speed limits on "The Loneliest Road in America."

I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I have to know if you made any wrong turns during the trip that unintentionally took you off US 50?
Nothing too crazy but I missed a turn heading out of Fallon so I had to turn around. But I edited that part out. The app I had decided to use for navigation was really buggy so I had to rely a lot on road signs. They were pretty easy to follow!
How many days it took to get all way Cali?
I made the trip in five days averaging about 600 miles per day. You can definitely take more time to go at your own pace!
A marathon driver could probably do it in about three days, averaging about 1,000-1,200 miles per day, but it would be a herculean push. The US is the most bicycle unfriendly country in the world. Not a single mile of this trip has bicycle friendly shoulders.
You don’t need bicycles when you have a car!!
Great video but the music was awful.

Music is subjective. Don’t be an ass @tomb9484
