It's interesting that the donkey is an animal seen for idiocy because it's actually a very intelligent animal.

@Houdini Magpie That's because they will carry all the heavy burden humans load them up with without a complaint unlike any other animals. Their altruism is interpreted as idiocy by the same humans.
I don't see a training problem here. The donkey seems to have the woman trained quite well.

My dad received a donkey from our uncle that was pregnant. Just a few hours after the baby was born he was playing catch with us kids and coming up showing affection and asking for pets. We named him cookie because he was just so sweet. Neither him nor his mom ever tried biting anyone either which I know donkeys sometimes innocently do. They were super gentle and seemed to really like people.

I love donkeys. They are intelligent, fun, faithful, and can be very loveable.
I want to live where this lady lives. I will happily take care of all the animals. It's better than taking care of infants in child care that's for sure.

Donkeys are smarter than horses and Mules. They also need companionship, another donkey would be the best. That is what he is showing following you around and getting under you. It is a dominance thing. They are also great watch dogs. There have been cases where they have killed the family dog feeling the dog, mistakenly was dangerous they will also kill snakes and any others they think are predators. My neighbor has two Donkeys to protect his Chickens. When they see me they come to my fence knowing I usually have an apple for them. Nice animals!

That is not true. It took me 10 years but now I have a little farm house. 3 ducks and 2 miniature donkeys. Its tough to live without money but the living experience is worth it. You dont have to be rich but you sure have to put a lot of eford into it. In every country there are people who already own farms but dont have any children. Often they will give you their farm if you help them. Its better to give it to a caring person then to leave it to your state or the church. Think about it.
Unfortunately like everything in life most people have not oppurtunities to fulfill their dreams -

This poor donkey needs LESS high protein food and way more exercise. Those fat pads are very unhealthy. People don't realize what easy keepers donkeys are and can give them some serious health issues.
That was my first thought. He is too fat. It's not healthy for any animal to be obese.

it's well known that donkeys should always have at least one other donkey companion. Donkeys shouldn't be kept single. He really needs a companion for long term physical and mental health. Hopefully Joplin will get a new best donkey friend.

I had a donkey as a boy, and dearly loved him. Was able to ride him to school occasionally, to the delight of my friends. They’re wonderful animals, badly treated in ugh of the world. Especially by the Chinese TCM practitioners who use an extract from the skin of donkeys and has led to a big decline in African and other areas donkeys.
