Wow, this song really makes me appreciate our country a little bit more!
I wasn't born in New Zealand but I grew up here all my life so its basically my home and a home to many people of different ethnic groups.
Thank you to Stan Walker and everyone involved in the making of this beautiful track and music video because you give the world a glimpse of why we call ourselves Kiwis and why we are proud to be one.

Can I just say, I'm South African and this song speaks to me on a level that most South African music has never reached!!! The fact that you named the song after New Zealand, incorporate your National Anthem, the beautiful scenery (WOW!!), sense of community, the joy and love of family, the way you appeal to your whakapapa..... Everything makes my blood sing in a HUNDRED different harmonies. I think I might belong there a little...

My girlfriend and I were listening to a French radio reportage on New Zealand. This song was at the end of the Podcast and we looked at each other like “what the…” before jumping on our phones to Shazam it. The melody, the rhythm, the energy of this music is absolutely unique, it is an elevation almost like a sanctification. And oh boy, the Maori language looks like it was created to be sung. Anyway, this music track is now my morning boost. A respectful salute from the other side of the planet.

Fun fact: music is a VERY strong part of Māori culture, and there was no written version of the language until NZ was colonized by Britain. Māori folk welcomed people into their tribes, sent family off to battles, began battles with, showed peace and much more things by doing a Haka. Which is a song of sorts i suppose.... ?

    "Aotearoa (English Version)"
(feat. Ria Hall, Troy Kingi & Maisey Rika)
No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
    No matter where you belong
    We'll fight for your freedom
I am the mountain, you are the sea flowing toward me
You are the river that runs through me, I am her, she is me
Created from dust and sand, born to lead this land
Where we come from we were made to be strong
    Our legacy will carry on
And if a piece of home
    Resonates in your soul
    Your journey will take you
    Where you belong
No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
    No matter where you belong
    We'll fight for your freedom
The heritage of this land is deep, we are it's legacy
I am her warrior, I fight for thee, we have the victory
Born from blood and tears, I am stronger than fear, yeah...

With all the division I have felt in NZ over the past few years I have found this music video a great help. It's a reminder of how we are still a bunch of individuals working towards one goal of a happy healthy country. I watch most nights with my kids so they can see how this country should be. If it comes to it I'll vote this for the new version of our national anthem!! Thanks again for capturing the true kiwi culture ❤

Discovered him when I was searching for a doc to watch & came across his doc showing his rise to fame but also telling about his harsh, abusive childhood and the cancer genes that run in his family, making it necessary for him and other family members to have their stomachs removed. I have so much admiration for Stan, for surviving his childhood, working hard towards success in his career and for facing cancer head-on, doing what was necessary to live and be healthy. So much respect for this young man!
