    I made one from an old bathtub that came in with scrap metal that I sell when I have a trailer that is full. If it's successful I will never throw bathtubs away.
    You're right about that worm compost doesn't burn op plants. I once had a bucket I forgot and when I walked by it weeks later it was full with tomato plants. Apparently I had thrown rotten tomatoes in the worm bins.

      My fish ale loved fresh worms I ( long ago) had Oscars both them and my fancy tail rescue goldfish that was about the same size growing with them when I rehomed them they were all at least nine inches. They would all come up and eat the worms right out of my hand.
      Even the ones I had before that would. Hand feeding them crawfish or live fish was a little more difficult. Bringing the worms into the bright light with stun them and make them easier to hang for the fish.
      It's a neat little thing and people always get a kick out of it when they come to visit you and you show them your trained fish

    Anyone with a aquaponics setup using bass or any predator fish with the space to do large worm farm should. Worms to feed fish, fish feed the plants. Plant scraps feed the worms, and the compost created can be used for any garden beds. Almost closed loop- Reducing input in the system. That's how I'm setting up. So thank you for the information matey, I'm still researching the worm aspect to save on fish food.

    When you talk about waste and shit we throw away and shit like that, I think about plastic. Plastic has been in the news these past few years and it is horrible how things as plastic has affected our lives. But I LOVE plastic. I have learned to do something with plastic that no one has ever thought of. I take plastic wrap, p[lastic milk jugs, [plastic water bottles and I make fishing lures from them. I re-fill my 1 pound LP tanks from a 20 pound tank. I fill my 20 pound tank and re-fill it from my 500 gallon tank then I fire up my one pound tank with a torch tip and cut me a piece of milk jug and I hold it with a pair of needle nose pliers and warm it, (not burn it) but warm it untill the plastic is plyable, then I start forming it with my fingers. I keep turning it above the flame and forming it. I form it into the confuguration that I want or need. I can add more plastic to it, whether it be from a plastic sandwich bag or more from a harder source. I use different colors of plastic and form them together. I can use darker colors of plastic for the eyes, etc. I let it hardened then use tiny eye screw to screw into them and take snap swivels to connect the hooks. I have made and sold lures for saltwater and deep sea fishing using 3 to 4 2 liter pop bottles.

      Well if it snows you need a big pile of compost or material and could tarp it. When it gets below zero your worms definitely may die if you don't have a big enough pile. But i raise worms in an IBC tote and i think mine died outside, but in the spring or summer i found tons of worms. So maybe they didn't die or hatched from eggs. I put like two feet of added stuff like alfalfa and lawn clippings and then put a tarp over it. I live in Utah, US, so we have months below freezing. Another idea is you could put a IBC tote or pool etc in the ground so it's more insulated by the ground. Or maybe just put material around it and over it for insulation.

      I've been wanting to ask you, MI, about comparing worm compost and traditional compost. Why do both? If someone has limited physical strength, can using only vermicast be sufficient?

    • @texaspatty4697
      @texaspatty4697 5 лет назад

      @@greengregs Do you make a lot of traditional compost, seeing that you have an abundance of vermicompost to use in gardens? Why or why not. Thank you.

      @@texaspatty4697 I'm not the guy but I keep a super lazy compost heap in the back yard to use for bedding.
      Half the point of worms is to save money and be lazy, yeah? Another easy and lazy free bedding I do is cram last years leaves in a barrel and hit em with the weed whip.

      @@uglyweirdo1389 Thanks for your response. I still am wondering if worm castings are "as good as" traditional compost in a garden. If anyone has used both and compared, let us know.
      In my experience, worms ARE easy! And traditional composting is not so much. Thanks!

    This video is great! I am contemplating a worm farm. I think I would like to try nightcrawlers. I am in Indiana and don't know if my climate is best suited to redworms or nightcrawlers. I look forward to your thoughts on that. I just subscribed. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you.

      Red wigglers are super resiliant and hearty. I sell em in the winter to ice fishers and they love em.
      They wont breed above about 90 or below about 60 but as long as you dont freeze em or fry em you should be fine.

    I'm not sure I understood how to make money off of worms besides selling worm castings and maybe fisherman and gardeners. How exactly do you make profit?
    Also, How long do worms live?

      I have an acre of wood for my worm beds. The other acre include my house, garden, greenhouses, and woodhenge -what ever that's going to be... But I can come pretty close to getting a steer a year on a 224 square foot plot! That said I grew up on a cattle farm.

    My vegetable beds are fungal dominate (I grow gourmet mushrooms inside in a controlled environment) but my compost pile has thousands of little tiny worms. I throw my old mushroom substrates in the compost, but the worms don't seem to eat them if there is something else around. Why would they "snub" the spent substrates?

    • @greengregs
      @greengregs  5 лет назад

      What do the worms look like and what medium do you use for the mushrooms?

    • @7munkee
      @7munkee 5 лет назад

      @@greengregs The compost pile worms are about 2-3 inches long max and med to dark red. The worms in my beds are HUGE...big around as a crayon and lighter in color than the others.
      I use bulk mixed birdseed for spawn and run the spawn in horse poo for fruiting.

    I brew the weeds I pull up in my garden. So, I’m wondering if you allow the worm tea to sit and ferment “worm beer” would it be more beneficial?

    • @greengregs
      @greengregs  5 лет назад +5

      It brews with an aerobic process to prevent the growth of anaerobic bacteria. To accomplish this I blow a lot of air into it. I will do a video on this in the near future.
