I never cease to be amazed at how articulately and efficiently the swami explains such complex ambiguous concepts. What he's explaining in this clip is that the root of procrastination or addiction or many negative actions. And the idea that even if we refuse the thought the thought will still bubble and be in consciousness until it's expressed. I've never thought of it that way but it's absolutely true. Wonderful teaching, thank you so much.

I think I have found a way to “trick” my mind, if you will. I simply say, later. When later comes, I say later again. I find the mind gets tired of this game, and stops sending up bubbles. It works, only to a certain extent. For instance, in fasting. It only works for about 3 days😂😆😂

I am somehow cursed with both the tendency to strain to develop and also laziness. For rare periods of time I have found myself taking action that is pleasing to every aspect of my nature with very little effort. This video is very helpful to me but I feel like there is still so much I don't understand.
Three different tendencies Tamas, Rajas, Sattva are to be handled in different way. With Tamo guna - we should fight, strain to overcome this
With Rajo guna - we should trick( can't fight it, )
With Satva- we have to surpass that and move towards Nirguna bramhan, just not sit with th feel of accomplishment
We need desires to evolve. Anxiety connected to desires is bad.

Nirvana is the 'extinguishment of the flame of desire'. Desires will persist as long as the 'individual I', the Ego, exists. The root of desire is the 'finite trying to regain to its original infinite state'. The Individual Ego limits the manifestation of the Infinite within the finite dimensions of the Physical Body and Mind. The Infinite is continuously trying to burst out from imprisonment within the walls of the body and mind. The finite hence desires to grow to the infinite. These desires are manifested in the outgoing body, mind and sense organs. But for the finite to attain to the infinite, there are infinite desires. Infinite desires can never be fulfilled through a finite body. Desires will hence persist until the Ego is dissolved and the Infinite rests in its true nature.

While conceptually what you say is absolutely marvelous, how do dissolve the ego? Is that not another ego trying to triumph over? Trying to acknowledge thoughts and desires as they arise and transform it looks more practical to me.

This is such an important discourse for life
So essentially we need to transmute our desires. Swami Vivekananda had once warned to not misinterpret the meaning of giving up desires. It is not to become purposeless but rather transmute them into a desire for god. Wordly desires need to be directed towards god. He explained if mere desirelesness be sign of being spiritual then the walls and chairs would be higher than us. Swami sarvapriyanand ji explained it beautifully, I am fully satisfied🙏🙏🙏
This is explored scientifically by Buddha and his technique of Vipassana!
There's no technique. All these methods and techniques will just strengthen the ego.
@Avdhoot Mohite I think you can't say that. Some of his disciples may had made mistakes. It's better to listen to modern day gurus like Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta Maharaj or Allan Watts. We can directly receive their teachings without interpolations.

Excellent Said by Pujya Swami Ji. However the Main topic is can we kill desires ? The Self Enquiry and Self knowledge helps. It is slightly difficult to understand and keep on practicing regularly till the mind is completely satisfied and doesn't keeps on craving for desires every now and then and also an important part of Self Realization.
The Key is the Self knowledge which says how long I am going to keep on fulfilling my desires. Even if I get all pleasures of the world some day I have to leave it and go ! In that case I better focus on something which is permanent and I don't have to keep on fulfilling and that is the knowledge that after the body dies there is something more superior to the best of the best things in the world and that is the Aatman or Bramhan which is permanent. As already mentioned by Pujya Swami Ji in his several lectures from time to time !
Once this thought and knowledge is perceived and understood the seeker keeps on churning or recollecting this thought both when the mind is already calm relaxed and pleasant and also in the adverse condition when it is trying to go back to it's old habit of bubbling up desires.
So completeness or I am complete, not dependent on any materialistic thing not even mental or emotional support from somebody and so on and even if the body dies I don't die.
Because a Pure Soul or Shudh Aatman is never Born. And an individual is born just because some or many desires in the past life are not fulfilled. So A pure Soul is complete always satisfied never dependent on anything for it's existence and I am that Soul and not This body !
Initially because of previous past karma habit's mind may forget this powerful self knowledge and again start generating or fulfilling desires, but by regular practice and meditation and also by staying in touch with yogic I mean Self knowledge lectures along with practically seeing it with circumstances and situations coming in life like ancestors leaving the body and going. Our own hair's growing grey and so on and so forth. The confidence in to Texts, scriptures and talks by Swami Ji about mortal world and objects and permanent Aatman or Bramhan increases.
It takes time but by practicing slowly the mind goes to that stable state.

Here vritti is thought and samskara is chitt... That's why patanjali in his yoga sutra has said in 2nd verse: "yogasch chitt vritti nirodh". When we stop vritti to embed in chitt we attain the state of yog.... That's when we get United with our true selves...
