- Bad weather in April has kept Jeff & Sarah from doing historical explorations so enjoy this short video shot in February 2024 showing some of the animals at Palm Springs' Living Desert Zoo & Gardens. The model train set up with miniature villages are also fascinating!

I'll bet many a kid down there has very happy memories of going and watching the trains at the park/zoo. Back when life was simpler, and simple pleasures appreciated more, I would have loved seeing that train set up when I was a kid!
I was born and raised in the Coachella Valley, and yes I have many many fond memories of the Living Desert. During Christmas time they turn the whole zoo into a Christmas Village of sorts and decorate it very nicely. You hit the nail on the head.

Had a great uncle who had two miniature train villages set up in his basement. I could watch for hours! This village at the zoo is captivating! I could watch this for hours. So much detail with buildings, people and landscapes!
We really went there for the animals because Sarah loves animals, but when I found the miniature train set, it fascinated me. Glad that you enjoyed it as well. It gives you a picture of a bygone era, for sure.

I'm generally not a big fan of zoos, but this one appears to have given the animals plenty of space, in a natural, environmental setting.👏🏻 Yes, Sarah wouldn't like it any other way, and she seemed fine.. Jeff, I agree with you about the train display. I found the buildings totally amazing, as well!🎊 Thank you for sharing this with us.

My dad was a train enthusiast. Had a miniature train collection. Back when all us kids were little we all would ride around town and when we'd hear the train whistle my dad would say head um up move um out and we'd haul butt to the depot and wave to engineer and then the caboose guy. What good times. Of course Paso was a lot smaller then. Thanx Jeff and Sarah. Forgot to say we were riding our bikes around town.

Thanks for the trains! Union Pacific's #4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, built by American Locomotive Co.(ALCO) will be on display in Roseville July 11-12. Roseville yard was the site of a huge military ordinance explosion while it was still operated by the Southern Pacific. Make your plans!

Jeff and Sarah! Another fine video about a place that has so much to offer its visitors. That G Scale Railroad is amazing. It didn't come cheap as the equipment and track/buildings by Piko, et al are costly. A mighty fine and HUGE layout! Thanks!!!

In Los Angeles we have had 20in. of Rain this Rain Season and we still might get more as the season isn't over yet. I bet Sarah had the best time ever seeing all of the Animals.
Hi Jeff & Sarah, I wish I had the time to visit places like you both do, that's why I enjoy your videos so much! I guess you just have to make the time, and time is short! I love the animals as well as the miniature train set up. I still have my Lionel train set my mom and dad got me for Christmas one year. They bought it from a friend of theirs who's kid didnt play with it anymore. This was in the 60's so the set had to be from the 50's I'm guessing. Thanks for another walk down memory lane!

Love the video! I live in Schenectady, NY. There was a plant here that built railroad cars starting in 1848. It became ALCO in 1901. That bell came from here!

Enjoyed watching this, animals and trains and cars. Since I have been watching westerns from age 15 ,FAFDM and comics in the 70s today I want to see real town and life in the American West.Pune city, India.
Hopefully someday you can visit the United States! It’s a beautiful place!

That’s a great layout! My dad in Germany was a huge train buff. When our son was little he had a LGB (Lehmann Großbahn) setup. Every time we went to Germany we brought back another engine or rail car. We only ran it in our living room, never outdoors.
Did you stop in Tehachapi on your way? Super train loop, and a train themed restaurant!

This place has always been one of our favorites for my wife and I. Looks like they did some work on the train set up since we been there last.
unforgenantly for us though, we cant get around much, and they did away with the trams that went around the whole zoo encloser.

I used to live close to Palm Springs and I never knew they had a Living Desert Zoo lol I guess I'm not very observant lol The model train town is cute!
