Damn, I thought JEW was my favorite band because of the lyrics and guitar licks. But now, listening to your approach to song writing, I'm wondering if I was actually attracted to the music because the framework of the music mirrors the same creative process I take in visual art. Whoa!
Love this podcast series, both Jim and Steve have real passion for music. It's so exciting to hear them have this huge respect for youth, work without judgement, being both analytic and critics of old and new circumstances. As a punk rock fan, bts follower and latin, both of these guys have a special place in my heart.
My new go-to podcast to just play while I fall asleep. I was literally looking for this when I found it. An insight into the man who speaks to so many broken hearts. There's something deeply comforting about Jim. Ive been writing songs for about twenty years, but that's taken a backseat to putting together a set of covers that might fix my broken heart, or at least express something somehow while Im unable to really face what I want to say, but the point is, your music is healing me in a new way, and Im just grateful. I cant think of another songwriter that makes me feel less alone. Thanks for everything. Im so glad your parents fucked
Living where I do there's not many people I can converse with on the topics you guys are doing - its really nice to hear music artists insights to their creative process. Like I'm not alone in my thoughts and ways, their are others! Thanks Jim :)
This podcast is now in my mandatory weekly must listen! Is sooo good. I listen to the episodes on Spotify + watch the video on RUclips- it’s that good.
Iv had the dream things happen so many times . Sometimes I thought , oh I’ll remember this and then I don’t. Others I record quietly and sing soft to not bother anyone else then it doesn’t reflect what I heard. Just recently, within the last week I realized what I need to do is sing it on key , not octaves lower or low energy, kinda have to deep dive right away. Definitely helps. I have so many ridiculous memos that I know were probably awesome ideas that I too shyly recorded ,from now on I just will wake everyone up . lol
Theres for sure an alternate universe where ole jim is a extremely famous youtuber/streamer/personality cause hes about as natural on camera and easy to watch/listen to as anybody else i seen online.
This podcast is amazing. I am by no means a podcast guy but I'm hooked. Also, being on the tech side of the music scene, its really interesting to hear how big of a role it plays in the modern music landscape.
I actually still remember the exact moment I found J.E.W. I read a review for a 7" that said they sounded a bit like samiam, I hunted it down and remember as the song started off (it was the song digits), I was a little disappointed because it was slow, and I was already getting annoyed by the flood of slow emo BS. Then the song kicks into this unbelievably powerful explosion "PAAAAY ATTENTION!" that was it for me, I was hooked. Still one of the best songs too
Loving this series but damn did you get my skivvies wadded up in a bundle when you dropped a Half-Life reference. Life really is all about being yanked from your comfort zone and learning to fight through it with just a crow bar.
I remember being in high school thinking "the good thing about Rap is that even though it's unbearable, it will eventually fade away"... This was about 1994-1995, and not only is it still here torturing my ear holes, but it sounds even worse than before. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!
Quickly becoming a favorite podcast.
Agreed
Jim is like the closest thing we're gonna get to a punk rock Fred Rogers.
That’s awesome
Won't you be... ahh I just can't do it justice!
Comment envy.
@@jimmyeatworld I would pay GOOD money to have a Jim Adkins or Jimmy Wat World cover of "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" good money.
😂

I didn’t know Steve and Jim had a song together, Merry Christmas in august.

It’s really cool to see Steve Aoki gush about old emo bands. Never knew he was involved with the scene back then.
He has songs with Linkin Park and Fall Out Boy.
He sang for a screamo band called This Machine Kills. They released a record on Ebullition.
Cassidy Robinson that’s pretty awesome
He was huge. watch he documentary he helped AFI get a footing in the beginning.
he has a huge fucking gorilla biscuits tattoo and used to book noise bands until he got evicted haha
Add Aoki to my list. Much respect
Watching this through until the end is one of the best ways I can enjoy myself while at work.
Steve Aoki's documentary "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" is fantastic.
Saw Jimmy Eat World in AZ during the Futures tour and still been listening all this time. What a cool conversation- Thank you!!

The songwriting convos in all these episodes have been so great. Thanks man! Much respect ✌
Really enjoying this series so far, and while I’ve always been a fan of the music, I’m having a whole new appreciation after watching these.

Golden Days - one of the best Aoki's Tracks
Imagine Jim & Steve performing it live and then throwing a bigass cake on the crowd. I would never wash it off 😂❤
Finally got around to watching one of these. Gonna try to do the cold dunk, I think!
Fender must be happy with this ad.
Best show ever...
11:17 Vulfpeck!! From getting fans streaming a silent album to selling out MSG in a few years. Amazing achievement from an Indie band!
Who downvoted this? This was an amazing interview that checked every box on conversation you would want them to have.
JEWs next single is gonna be called "cold plunge" ! mark my words
Jim! Im loving these podcasts! Any chance of doing a live song creation stream? X

This is awesome! Keep it up!
Loving this podcast, any thoughts on EA Sports NHL being an introductory for a lot of kids in the mid 2000's?
Aoki is an OG emo guy. Who knew?
Most people into hardcore did. Dim Mak was an amazing hardcore label before he did his whole thing.
Yes, Christie Front Drive!
Love it. Jim with the Half Life name drop!
7:56 - 8:00 Jim listening intently
Davey Havok should be next. And please ask him why he couldn’t record one verse in Congratulations

Who has the video of JEW playing in Steve’s kitchen?!

What kinda mics do you use for your acoustic guitar normally, Jim?
Jim in an ice plunge stream when? 😂
woo HFStival reference
Where’s the Smirnoff bottle?
steve's dad brought teppenyaki - founder of benihana
Is Steve Aoki big in the US? Only heard of him a few times in the UK
He was pretty big here (UK) in the pre dubstep baseline scene back in the mid 2000's
He's big in the electronic DJ side of things so he's not really a mainstream success but he's respected from what I've heard.
Justin whang in a jimmy eat world video 😂
Next show Ep.3 : Jim Morrison
radaoke
Rad
Steve Aoki sounds a lot like Jesse Pinkman !
Aoki seems like/acts as if he is
unaware of how massive the kpop commercial infrastructure is these days
