Austin Roberts turned into a one man Beatles for these songs .It's just too bad he didn't record more in this style, and that the mastered versions of two of the songs (this one and Pretty Mary Sunlight) are essentially lost
I know a place where I am going And the place where I am going Just around the bend And you know There's a lot that I can show you And if you wanna go there I can get you in "Happy" is the secret word And if you're happy it will get you through And I love you, you know it's true And I can make you happy if you love me too I'll take you to the place where I'm going And the place where I'm going isn't far away Baby, if you want to get going Let your love start showin' And I'll take you today Can't you see you've only been dreamin' But I can make those dreams come true Cause I love you, you know it's true And I can make you happy if you love me too [Chorus]: Oooooh! I believe the Ortrish is a metaphor for a girl that doesnt care what others think about her since she is different from the average girl in the town. She just cares about living her life and ignores others. She isn’t a sheep.
I remember when I was like 10 or 11 years old getting the Scooby Doo CD and being disappointed that this version wasn't on it, but then I grew to like the Davy Jones version too!
So glad my girlfriend is a big Scooby Doo fan and got me back into the show! Came across this song while watching Scooby Doo the other night, such a good song and chase scene 😊
there has to be a recording of this that exists without the sound effects of the TV show. I don't think the clean version of this song was ever released. I'd like to know the details behind this recording and other Danny Janessen songs used on Scooby Doo (like who were the writers and producers behind this music, where were they recorded at, who played on the sessions, etc.)
There's an episode of The New Scooby-Doo Movies, S01: E13 - "The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall", which has Davy Jones (of The Monkees) singing this, but it doesn't compare to this version of Danny Janssen's.
+MaryRuth Hodsden- You are incorrect concerning this version. This version was sung by Austin Roberts for season 2 of Scooby Doo: Where are you. The Version you are thinking of is from Scooby Doo Movies and is featured on The Haunted Horsemen of Hagglehorn Hall, an alternate version by Davey Appears on Snack Tracks which many people mix up with this version which I believe is why so many people keep saying this.
its extremely confusing when it comes to Austin Roberts. He is an american singer but he does sound like he is from England. Now that i hear it, there is a lot of similarities between his voice and Davy Jones'
01:38 This article is about the song used for a chase scene in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!. For the song by Davy Jones in The New Scooby-Doo Movies, see I Can Make You Happy (Davy Jones). "I Can Make You Happy" is a song that was performed by George A. Robertson, Jr., and written by Danny Janssen and Susan Steward. It used for a chase scene in the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode Mystery Mask Mix-Up. Lyrics I Can Make You Happy (Austin Roberts).ogg I know a place where I am going And the place where I am going Just around the bend you know There's a lot that I can show you And if you wanna go there I can get you in "Happy" is the secret word And if you're happy it will get you through And I love you, you know it's true And I can make you happy if you love me too I'll take you to the place where I'm going And the place where I'm going isn't far away Baby, if you want to get going Let your love start showin' And I'll take you today Don't you see you've only been dreamin' But I can make those dreams come true Cause I love you, you know it's true And I can make you happy if you love me too [Chorus]: Oooooh! I can only say that both versions are two of my favorite songs. As I am a Figure Skater who skates for fun and has dreams, and the words fit me perfectly. I wonder what the inspiration was for Davy Jones to write or sing it.
It's my favorite of Austin Roberts's Scooby-Doo chase songs! If a clear recording existed, I would've used it in my YTP "Disney Buys Out Hanna-Barbera" for the "Robin Hood" jailbreak scene, but since there still isn't one available, I settled for "Seven Days a Week".
I prefer this to the Davy Jones version. I wish they had included both on the CD. It would be great to have the original version without all the bouckground sounds. Thanks for posting though!
Correction to prior comments: it was Danny Janssen, not Austin Roberts, who oversaw La La Productions. Roberts was the vocalist, while Janssen was the producer (and sometime songwriter) on the songs. Not sure where Danny Janssen is (or if he's still around), but he would probably be the one to clear up all these questions!
Right. Danny Jannsen wasn't credited; just La La Productions. Austin Roberts was credited as part of the show's voice cast that season, as George A. Robertson Jr.
Omggggggg! "I love you, you know it's true. I can make you happy if you love me too!" This line has been living rent free in the back of my head for practically my whole life. I could never find it! Go figure, my dumb ass was convinced that it was a normal song, but no! Of course it was from Scooby-Doo 😅
People have asked if these songs exist without the sound effects. It's difficult to say. SOME of the songs on the Rhino comp were released without the effects, so I would guess they did . . . at some point. It's doubtful that the unadulterated music tracks for all the songs still exist--we're talking over 50 years. Given that every other kids cartoon from this era was trying to imitate the Archies, it's a good bet that Hanna-Barbera had every intention of releasing this material. La La Productions, Austin Roberts' company, is credited with music direction in the credits. If I were a bubblegum detective, I would start with whichever studio Austin used to record the tracks--this might provide a lead as to where the tracks might be (if they still exist). H-B released soundtracks of earlier shows (Huckleberry Hound, Pixie and Dixie, etc.), but the studio farmed out it's bubblegum rock productions (Josie and the Pussycats, Banana Splits, Cattanooga Cats, etc.) primarily because house musical director, Hoyt Curtain, didn't like rock music. That's one reason why those acts had their albums and singles released on outside labels. Another was that H-B wanted them to chart as legitimate chart contenders, something that wouldn't have happened if the music had been released through H-B.
