Aena | Celebrating 50 years of Almeria Airport

We are celebrating 50 years of Almería Airport. It is located between the sea of Alboran and the so-called “Sea of Plastic”, an area that covers over 30.000 hectares of greenhouses, close to the nature paradise Cabo de Gata and not far from the desert of Tabernas, which has been the scenery of many western movies that are icons of the history of cinema.
Current and retired employees and relatives came to the Golden Anniversary Celebration of the Airport. A number of events were planned beginning with a visit to some of the more interesting parts of the infrastructure, including areas that normally are restricted to the public like the wildlife control service, fireman’s park and the helicopters of the Spanish Tax Agency and the Spanish Maritime Safety Agency. In addition, there were cooking and drawing contests. The public formed an Indalo Man on the airport platform, lucky charm and symbol of Almeria, as a 50th birthday gift.
