I agree! It definitely feels more realistic. In Gale’s case, I would have been surprised if he had wanted an open relationship, because even though he drops the “l-word” really fast, he’s actually 100% earnest about it and the devotion he shows. It can be a bit much, but he’s a very passionate person who obviously cares deeply for his partner’s happiness.
Yeah Halsin is very obviously down for anything you ask to try. Shadowheart is down for doing kinky things as long as you’ve been with just her before. Laezel wants to be the only one who can leave bruises on you 😂 Astarion acts as though he is ok with being poly, but I think he just is afraid to lose you by saying no to what you want, so he puts on a performance as he always had to in the past. Gale is so in love with you he will still love you even if you turn into a worm (illithid) and will want to marry you and take you home to meet his family if you are in a relationship with him (the man also has a kinky side as evidenced by some… interesting… comments he makes) 🤭 Karlach is basically a Golden Retriever trapped in the body of a Rottweiler who loves her one person with all their heart and is very loyal. Wyll is very much a one-person-only kinda guy (I think him and Karlach would be great together). I’m not sure about Minthara as I haven’t seen much with her and cannot get her in my current game. And I don’t think Minsc or the other later arc characters are romance-able 🤔
@@elenalizabeth dude you don’t want to find out what minthra is like when ask her to be poly. woman sees 1984 as a how-to guide (i got that from another person)
@@elenalizabethI believe Minthara does not share 😂. She’s extremely possessive, but in a good way. As she states ‘my trust is not easily given, so it makes what relationships I do have mean all the more’. After she has hit on and made moves on two of my characters who are in exclusive relationships
I love that Gale immediately thinks Tav is talking about them having a kid, there's something so innocent about that. And as an old-fashioned romantic as well, he summed up my own feelings about polyamory/open relationships very aptly. Not judging anyone who is in one, but open/polyamory is about as appealing to me as it is to Gale here.
I think the only time I would be ok with “being poly” would be in a situation like the drow twins, like we don’t actually have to do anything with them, but I think they could teach us some new tricks and a little extra spice. But I wouldn’t be ok with it being one-on-one, it would have to be a couples thing (is that called swinging?)
Being polyam doesn't necessarily mean you aren't devoted to your partner though. There can just be multiple deeply dedicated and devoted relationships, time and energy permitting. Love is not a finite resource to be hoarded.
Me too. I can’t dedicate myself romantically to any other partner but one. Maybe I’m old-fashioned too but my heart has never been able to romantically set itself on multiple people - there is only room for the one it chooses. One’s heart wants who it wants.
Personally, I like to imagine that he jumps to the conclusion because he has been overthinking adopting Arabella ever since the group finds out that her parents are dead. Lonely magical prodigy might be something he can relate to and he is generally very supportive of the Tiefling children and wants to help them.
i was gonna say "no gale's not vanilla" but actually he's the perfect embodiment of vanilla: an expensive/hard to obtain and potent spice that seems plain at first glance, its him exactly
His voice actor is amazing! I was watching Good Omens 2 and, despite having never seen a picture of Gale’s VA, I recognised him immediately. I think the VA did an amazing job with the Orin abduction lines too, the way his voice breaks and he speaks in such an altered way, it sounds something really dark happened to him.
As much as I'd love Tav to be able to date multiple people along with Gale, I love how he expresses being firmly against it and setting his boundary right away. And it's a little sad that he feels the need to 'call himself out' by saying that perhaps he's selfish for it, when it's no more 'selfish' than his partner wanting to open up the relationship! Though I wish you could reply to the part where he says 'I thought what we had meant something to you' because he sounds so hurt 🥺 It feels sad to hear that and then agree not to talk about it again without letting him know that you do love him, or that you wouldn't have asked if you knew how he felt etc!
Aha. RUclips decided to remove my comment even before I could edit it... Or maybe it was a networking error. What I said was basically that 1) I like how they made all romanceable characters not gender locked, while giving them autonomy to break up with you and express consent to intimacy (like at least with Astarion, where whenever you want to kiss him you have to ASK). And 2) I wish this dialogue with your partner was less of a "I want to do it but Halsin told me to ask you" and more "I don't know if/regardless of whether I want to do it or not, I wanted to let you know, and talk about how the perspective makes you feel in general, so we have a better understanding of what's between us. I won't even consider it if you're not ok with it, and only might consider if you are, but I didn't feel like keeping it a secret from you. Communication is key, you know?" vibe.
@@Kasiarzynka Man, I know it's been months, but I just had to say something because your comment really made me feel so much better about my current romance with Gale
And beyond that. If he dies and you use "speak to the dead" on him, he'll say he'll wait for you until you can be together again. Obviously, you can just pay Withers to bring him back, but still
I love how if you say no to Halsin, he takes it very well. He's disappointed, but, over the course of 350 years, this is probably not the first time he's been turned down, so, he might as well accept with grace.
This is why my Tav's immediate response to Halsin when he propositioned her was 'I'm flattered; but not interested', I tend to play monogamous characters, and my Tav was romancing Gale (who is also monogamous). There's zero reason for her to discuss the matter with Gale and put him through undue stress just to appease Halsin (who isn't as polite/accepting to being rejected outright as he is if your tav discusses the proposition with their lover first). I'll take Halsin's accusations of leading him on (for the record, my Tav never flirted with him once) over hurting Gale's feelings any day.
Perfectly fine to have monogamous characters (it’s actually great because it makes them feel more real and not like toys for the player) but gales insecurity and anger clearly comes from having been a plaything for mystra. You also see it if you try to have a foursome with him and the drow
It’s the default camp for Act 3 in the Lower City. I actually prefer it to the Elfsong because I find the Elfsong’s vocalised background music to be pretty distracting.
Yeah, 'woof' is right, I quick-saved and picked that option just to see what happens (I like clicking through all the possible dialog options, even if it's breaking up with my love interest) and yowza... that really left a bad taste in my mouth. That man does not handle rejection well.
I was unhappy with that at first, but then I started thinking, Gale's highest priority is the intellectual/emotional/spiritual bond, and the physical is just a bonus, perhaps one he's saving for later? I think the narrator could have come in here and said something about how deeply you connected and how close you felt afterwards. Just the auditory/visual aspects can't capture that. Although, on the flip side, if you don't know how long you'll either stay "human" (or Tiefling, or Gith, or whatever) or live through all the battles you have to fight, one just might want to enjoy the pleasure (and stress-relief) of physical intimacy as much as possible, just in case! And Gale is an Adonis in my eyes - who could resist?
I think it's ironic for him to be acting like this while also spending a lot of the romance reminding you he still has feelings for Mystra and that she's a goddess. So while you can't get a second fiddle. You will always be his second fiddle.
