This movie is one of the best that I have watched so far. The actors and actresses in the movie are good, even the ones who play some trivial roles had performed well. The dialogs and actions are nicely structured, written, expressed and executed. There are many action scenes in the movie, it requires so many people to act together to make it look more real, but it was coordinated and accomplished very well. Some scenes and in the series are so emotional that shook and touched my heart. After viewing it, I feel that I had learned a few valuable lessons from it. In the past, during and before WWII, many absurd customs and laws that mistreated women were still practiced in China. Women in the society were considered as a merchandise that could be sold or traded by authorized persons such as husbands, parents, elder brothers or servant contract owners. Women who were unlucky to be married to a wicked husband would suffer miserable abuse because the existent rules and laws caged them into a fate that was hard to break free by themselves. This movie highlights one special characteristic of Chinese culture in the past. The culture nurtured and honored love, comradeship and sacrifice (情義) between lovers, family members, companion fighters, close friends, debtors and benefactors. The film had shown the power of such an affection, its outburst often overrode logical thinking and lead to risky decisions and actions, the outcomes could be good or bad. The movie also showed that enemies could take advantage of such kind of risk-taking emotion to prey on their opponents. This film showed several scenes about the evil, inhumanity, bloodiness and brutality of Jap armies exerted over Chinese people during their invasion period in WWII. Anyone who read and understand about world history would realize that during WWII, Jap armies had committed much more crime than those illustrated in the movie. They carried out mass murder and execution by guns, chemicals and bombings, they tortured, robbed, raped, used Chinese as human shields or sacrifice objects for their warfare and chemical experiments. Many Chinese were turned into running dogs for the Japs because their own and families’ lives were terrorized by Japs’ wicked brutality and lies control tactics. Very ridiculously and shamefully, Jap government today totally denies such a crime and deliberately changed its history books to fool people and the following generations. Indeed, there are many countries that acted evil and bloody during many centuries of colonialism but they never get punished and their people’s dignity was intact and even glorified, a simple reason for such human injustice is that “Power Talks and Decides”. I wish that after watching this film, Chinese would love their country and people more. Chinese worldwide have suffered racism and discrimination for a long time mainly because China in recent history was weak with little military and economic power. Foreigners had propagated their stereotypes in books and news media against Chinese since hundreds of year ago. Furthermore, Chinese political ignorance, dividedness, selfishness and carelessness made them become easy targets for bullying and scapegoats. If you are a true Chinese, you should ask yourself: Will I be selfish and foolish like 田树才, 铁算盘 and 麻老六to live and serve as running dogs for foreigners to harm my own people and country? Will I be courageous like 沈家门, 花红 and 陈三炮 to join my fellow Chinese to fight back any foreign attacks on my own people and country?
