Also, the way he fits in all the rhyming while still having it make sense as a statement (arguably the clearest statement of intent we ever got on a Rush album) is some of Neil's best lyrical writing, right up there with Anagram (for Mongo).
I couldn’t agree more, John! I grew up with this band and loved it, and seeing younger generations experience amazing music like this fills me with so much joy! Rush was a voice of a generation and I’m so glad to his young man isn’t just hearing it, but feeling it too :)
First song of rush i ever heard was this one. It changed my point of view to music. Plus it was time when i fell into smoking stuff.. it nailed my coffin then but i got out. Still all these rush songs i hear makes me remeber deep high i flew that time...
Another one of my favourite Rush songs. You're on a roll (pardon the pun)! I think this is a highly underrated album in Rush circles. IMO not a weak song on it.
Love Roll the Bones. The theme of the whole album is about taking chances/gambling at life. "Roll the Bones" because dice used to be made out of bone. Even though I discovered Rush in 1975, I love this album, unlike a lot of other old timers, lol.
I'm right there with you. I discovered Rush right after their premier album. I have loved all of their stuff throughout the years. Although I must admit I wasn't partial to them over their early stuff, but I have learned to love them all.
I honestly think it’s bullshit everyone who loves rush went through their whole eclectic catalog with them. This was their homage to the 90s. Counterparts was like a grunge album. This was like they were jamming RHCP and the cure.
I saw them on this tour. One of the best things ever happened to me. We hit a local bar before the show. The bartender asked us how we were doing and we said great, going to the Rush show. Cool! He said he was raffling off 2 tickets. He asked if we had good seats...no we said, nosebleed section. He said, tell you what, give me your tickets and I'll give them away and you take these...these are great seats. I was reluctant, I thought it was a scam. We went back and forth, and I finally agreed to trade tickets. When we went into the Centrum, we asked an attendant where the seats were. "Oh, right this way!" We went down the hallway to a non descript door. She said..right in here. THEY WERE BOX SEATS! FOOD AND DRINKS! NICE BIG COMFY SEATS! It was awesome. Candlebox warmed them up, first time hearing them. A great night I'll never forget.
I can't wait for you to do your reaction to 2112 also!!! Do the comic strip version as it will help you understand the song... looking forward to it!!! Rush Army....
Far Cry for sure. Awesome bassline. Great tune. Got me through some tough times few years ago. Awesome in concert (R40)! Also, Dreamline from Roll the Bones is awesome.
i could see it do what it's meant to do... back in the day when it first came out, i didn't think much of it, but god - every year i hear it, it hits harder! it's a song about mortality, and doing what you can with your time here, really... and i think this came a good few years before neil woulda had such a need-and-reason to write something like this. bless 'im; bless all their families... RUSH ROCKS ON!!! :)))
I'm watching you for about 2 months now and I love how you get it. It's a pleasure to watch the genius of their music and lyric come over you like a tidal wave. That's what the reaction is all about! Can't wait to watch you experience more of the best band than ever played on this Earth. As far as 2112 goes, the best version I've heard is off of the different stages album. It's the full set. Good stuff! And even if you don't do it in your reaction video, you have to check it out, it's absolutely wonderful and badass. Thanks for your reactions, it's been a pleasure.
I can see that you are getting into RUSH more and more. That's how it started for me back in 1976... Enjoy the ride my friend. It only gets better and better...
Great little song which I’m glad you enjoyed. Rush have so much to offer in a variety of ways and they’ve already won you over😎 The world awaits your 2112 experience Michael 🙂
This song really helps show the extent to which Rush would be influenced by other musicians and trends. They were always changing and willing to try new things.
I really enjoy your great reactions!! None of these guys were too old to be fans or try new things. Neil wanted to have some fun with wordplay and they thought about having a real rapper do the part, but in the end, to keep it “theirs”, that rap part is Geddy’s voice altered. They just play a sample when they do this live! I love how the guys took Neil’s idea and just ran with it! This song took on new meaning for Neil Peart after two tragedies in 1997: his daughter died in a car accident and his common-law wife was diagnosed with cancer (she died a short time later). Peart questioned why this could happen, and in doing so, revisited the themes in this song, once again concluding that events take place "because stuff happens." Really enjoyed this reaction and looking forward to “2112”! Be well and God Bless… from Texas!
I’m old enough to remember the origins of rap...Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash...this song reminds me of that nostalgia and how tastefully Rush did it in 1992. You want to see a real treat? Watch this live from the R40 tour...great reaction! Can’t wait for 2112! 😎
Great reaction man. Rush are definitely top of the pile when it comes to creative content. Every one of their songs has real depth. No lyric is wasted and all of their albums concentrate on a theme or social message that is presented in a very thought provoking and emphatic way. Roll the Bones is also one of my favourite albums. I saw them play this live on tour and they recreated the album pretty much perfectly.
Yes 2112 will blow you away. The comic book version is the best but do the lyric one if for some reason that one gets blocked. That is Geddy rapping, they used a voice modifier to lower his voice. Also, can you dig it is an old 1960's hippie phrase. Cheers
2112 in RIO is the best version because it sifts out all the boring parts the ACTUAL band NEVER plays at their concerts……Rio is a bit to heavy for Debbie.
Yeah when this album came out we Rush fans were (as usual) in for an... adjustment of expectations as they explored more ways to be RUSH! 😲🙄😃🤩 This album is great. Check out Bravado from the same. ruclips.net/video/Wonn3me3FEA/видео.html
Not sure if you've listened to any other tracks from Permanent Waves, besides Spirit of the Radio. But..you should listen to Freewill, Natural Science and Entre Nous. You won't be disappointed.
2112, baby.. do the album version first time, so you can listen to it only and experience it like we all did back in 76'. Then watch the cartoon version later, if you want. Just my 2 cents.
Geddy, with some additional studio magic. Missed opportunity if you ask me, since there were some really popular Hip Hop artists breaking into the scene back then.
Do 2112, just to keep the commenters with the pitchforks and torches at bay. It's a good song for an idealistic teenager/20-something year old... not so good once the world's beaten and kicked you down several notches though and you struggle to make end's meat and just survive in modern society.
Try Subdivisions it is about being outcast not fitting in , like in High school there is a video, Neil wrote this song also the lyrics it describes him self in high school also Geddy and Alex they did their own thing with the music and dis not hang out with the in crowd
First time I've heard this & it's by far the weakest & diluted RUSH track ive heard since grace under pressure which made me stop listening to RUSH. I feel like they went pop genre WITH THIS PAP😳 very poor 😢
I don't get people who hate the rap section. It's clearly meant to be funny, and I like that Rush was willing to try something new and different.
Also, the way he fits in all the rhyming while still having it make sense as a statement (arguably the clearest statement of intent we ever got on a Rush album) is some of Neil's best lyrical writing, right up there with Anagram (for Mongo).
I love watching people discover this band. It's a long fulfilling journey
I couldn’t agree more, John! I grew up with this band and loved it, and seeing younger generations experience amazing music like this fills me with so much joy! Rush was a voice of a generation and I’m so glad to his young man isn’t just hearing it, but feeling it too :)

Great band
"Rush can do it all"! Beautiful.
"Gonna kick some gluteus max." Only Neil Peart, folks.
greatest band ever
Another one of my favourite Rush songs. You're on a roll (pardon the pun)! I think this is a highly underrated album in Rush circles. IMO not a weak song on it.
What's funny was Neurotica was one of those songs that I had to warm up to. I blast that now.
Loved it when it came out, I enjoyed watching them evolve as composers, writers, and a band. Not a weak song indeed....and my kids love it too!
Dreamline, Where’s my thing, RTB, Face Up? what’s not to like!? 👍
Love Roll the Bones. The theme of the whole album is about taking chances/gambling at life. "Roll the Bones" because dice used to be made out of bone. Even though I discovered Rush in 1975, I love this album, unlike a lot of other old timers, lol.

I was "late" to the game, first hearing 2112 in 1979 when a friend introduced me...and I have enjoyed every album and never left.
I honestly think it’s bullshit everyone who loves rush went through their whole eclectic catalog with them. This was their homage to the 90s. Counterparts was like a grunge album. This was like they were jamming RHCP and the cure.
This 62yo ol timer loves it! 2112 got me started in bout '77

Candlebox opened for them on the Counterpart tour too, my first Rush experience :)
You Rolled the Bones!!
Fun fact: the rapping bit was Geddy Lee with a pitch shifter.
Rush is the best!!👍😎🎶
Also do Freewill!!!!!!! Lyrics are incredible, and time signature changes are amazing!!!!!!!!
Awesome how they incorporated a bit of rap
Love that you listen to rush , I subbed on that alone
LOVE the lyrics for YYZ
I can't wait for you to do your reaction to 2112 also!!! Do the comic strip version as it will help you understand the song... looking forward to it!!! Rush Army....
Agreed! But if you do the comic version, you’ll have to blur out the video for viewers, otherwise it’ll get blocked
@@Bass17yl yeah, now that he has done 2112 I did comment there to do that one on his own time... not as a review.
Far Cry for sure. Awesome bassline. Great tune. Got me through some tough times few years ago. Awesome in concert (R40)! Also, Dreamline from Roll the Bones is awesome.
I second "Far Cry"
Some of my favorite lyrics Neil ever wrote
Ghost of a Chance, from the same album is great as well.
Glad to see you enjoying the songs that kept me sane 30 years ago
I love your excellent reactions to Rush…..maybe Far Cry or Analog Kid next? Sending love from🇨🇦❤️😁
2112 is going to blow your mind! 🤯🤯🤯

RUSH 30th Anniversary Tour - One Little Victory [HD]
I like your attitude young man. It’s all about the music.
You never knew what this band was going to do...ya gotta listen.
Great Reaction! Rush greatest band ever!
Subdivisions has always held a great place for some good lyrics and music.
i could see it do what it's meant to do... back in the day when it first came out, i didn't think much of it, but god - every year i hear it, it hits harder! it's a song about mortality, and doing what you can with your time here, really...

Rush has a very distinctive sound and style, yet above all they love music of all genres. I’m glad you were moved by this gem.
Good one..really like this album..well done my friend..thumbs up

Thanks for staying during the journey 🔥
Such an awesome song!
The live version is Great
One of my faves... Thanks for doing a review.. Love it!
If you haven’t all ready you definitely need to check out La Villa Strangiato to see the real skill of Neil, Geddy, and Alex with their instruments!
Rush is like musical chess.
Rush will end up being the ones to unite the world ala "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure".
I like that they took a big chance in this song.
And I enjoy your reactions.
Gotta love RUSH! A group that has no boundaries and no limits. Another great reaction!
My absolutely favorite Rush track.....and I've been listening to them for +40 years. This is deep hole to dive into dude....good listening!
🤗 Been waiting on this! Let's Go! 🎲🐰
Love your reactions! Super excited to experience 2112 with you. Maybe Bastille Day? Nothing like history lessons with Rush. Manhattan Project???
Well you rolled the bones, took that chance and found the best to ever do it "in my opinion" Very cool.
I can see that you are getting into RUSH more and more. That's how it started for me back in 1976... Enjoy the ride my friend. It only gets better and better...

You made watching this video fun. Great job and very genuine….
see if there is a live version of this song. During the rap there is a skeleton that was always a concert favorite
Alex the rapper!

Please listen to BRAVADO (from this same album), the song has always had a special meaning but even more so during these trying times.
"Neurotica" is my favorite from this album, but the whole album is great.
in this album alien shore is the song

does the POPE binge ever stop ???so for them to be there must be a higher power?
Rush on bro.
Grest reaction!! Fucking Rush on
Back in the days of MC Hammer, Paula Abdul and Marky Mark, you also had Rush :)
Not sure if you've listened to any other tracks from Permanent Waves, besides Spirit of the Radio. But..you should listen to Freewill, Natural Science and Entre Nous. You won't be disappointed.
When you do 2112 make sure it's the comic book version. It takes the song experience to a level above amazing.
Check The Trees
Rush RAPS!! Why? ROLL THE BONES!
First Larry Bird now Neil Peart... Screw Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg.
check out "Mission" and "Resist"
Yea….Freewill ….epic tri soloing by the three…last time Geddy hits the upper register with vocals on record
2112, baby.. do the album version first time, so you can listen to it only and experience it like we all did back in 76'. Then watch the cartoon version later, if you want. Just my 2 cents.
