I have a great boss because of that I reduced my speed by 10% which raised me from 7.5 to 9 mpg .. he once told me the most profitable trucks without complainers stay the busiest.
Yea and I would have handed him those keys immediately.
Unbelievable, So they want you haul ass , So you can stay busy huh ?
But they want you to slow down so you can drive more hours 😒
I drive 9 hrs a day , Because the truck I drive is wide open and I make the time in 9 that takes many others the full 11 .
@@Mississippi4ClemsonI have been there and have done that. If driving faster suits you better and is more profitable for you - 👏.
I am older now (54 years old) and would rather drive at 60 mph and save on fuel and amortization. I have been getting 8.5 MPH on average. Yet we are all different and should not be subjugated to any speed limiters. I drive slow and stay on the right lane, away from faster trucks. Trucking unfortunately has become a low wage earning job.
This is no joke..last night I parked at TA Baldwin, FL, one of my favorite stops. Usually, I reserved a park before I got there.. last night was empty.. I talked about 70% of parking was open. That's not normal in my 4 years in trucking. Stay Strong Drivers..storm will pass🙏
I have seen truck stops along my route with plenty of parking up to 8 o clock at night!! A year ago, if you weren't parked by 5pm, you would not find anything! Scary!
They must all be in Lebanon TN tonight because I pulled into the Loves at 3:00pm and there were less than 10 spots left.
That's because many drivers and carriers avoided fl this week because of the hurricane.
I went local and noticed the amount of parking. Even for the small truck stops.
We will soon look back on these as the good old days. The dollar is collapsing
😔
The end of the owner’s operators
@@bigtoe0341 the end of everything for a period of time. Then we won't recognize what it's like on the other side.
If you carry a lot of debt in any type of a company, you are more than likely going to go out of business when economy slows down so it’s better to grow slow and be strong when the time to get lean

I left the trucking industry in March. I had 3 months shy of 20 years. I work for the company 14 years of that. My company lost accounts file for bankruptcy. I like my life a lot better since I’m not a truck driver anymore. My health is a lot better.
Lucky man. My dream is too escape.
@@jossa942I hung my keys up on July 4th, 2023. I had a breakdown and I just said “enough”. I just left the truck wherever it was at and I took a plane home. I got tired of weighting for an entire month while my truck is sitting in the shop. I got tired of these greedy brokers and other carriers undercutting me. I also got tired of being harassed by DOT and being treated like absolute garbage by shippers/receivers. Expensive food and expensive parking spots. I mean EVERYONE is trying to make a dollar out of me wherever I go due to the fact that I drive a big rig. Oh well! I cancelled my insurance and my authority has been revoked and I cancelled my loadboard subscription and closed down my business bank account. Im completely done and out of this crap. Im currently transitioning to aviation so that I can be a commercial pilot. Y’all can have this trucking crap.
Am glad am not Trucker anymore ! No money 💵 maker . Very stressful job? Of OTR
People are missing the bigger issue. There’s always going to be freight no matter what. The problem is that smaller companies are being shamelessly out bid by the major operations. Where I live many smaller companies are having to slash pay and benefits just to keep up. Pretty soon the entire industry will either be Swift trucks or smaller operations that pay next to nothing, offer no benefits and run you till you’re burnt out and ready to quit.
That has always been the plan.
Big carriers will just buy them out.. Mergers are happening all over
@@GypsyNomad912 you’re always going to have hold outs the smaller trucking companies will always exist they’ll just pay less and less to where you’re better off at a mega anyway
oh not swift trucks we can't handle a nation where trucks consistently get stuck under bridges or roll people off the highway. lol jk but in all seriousness its just monopoly style shit being attempted in every industry
Thats what the government wants.
Expensive fuel plays a big part in killing profits
Fuel goes up you raise the price to ship goods.
It wasn’t too long ago mega carriers were crying that we had a driver shortage and now look. Over saturation and low volume freight.
That was a lie
Never ever where shortage , mega just wanted extra drivers to control the pay …and send you anytime to north east and never hear say , I won’t run north east 😂😂😂😂
@@cryptoanalysts5793then why were rates at record highs
The industry is saturated with drivers.
They was crying because they wanted cheap drivers not enough slaves they😂 were saying
Thanks Ronen. More power to you and God Bless you and the whole ET Transport. May your company prosper through this hard times.
The number one problem in the trucking industry is brokers and mega carriers
The country is actually in a depression regardless of what the media says. The dollar is crashing and will not recover. Get out now while you still can.
Gonna be a lot more by the end of the year. Glad i just retired. Good luck drivers i had enough myself.
In S. FL brokers advertise dispatching jobs for the same salary as s truck driver. Let that sink in.
It's a race to the bottom, hang on, it's going to be a very bumpy ride!
This gentleman is breaking it down to the T . If you don’t understand what he’s trying explain. This business isn’t for you. Also remember if one chapter ends another will always begin.
I have enough “fun” managing my own affairs, I sure wouldn’t want to manage a small fleet of truck and drivers, ESPECIALLY when it goes south. 😕
Truck repair cost are increasing because parts went up too
The market is folding our dollar is worth less and less this is sad prayers to all of fellow drivers
Over 30 years in trucking, working at a full service shop/terminal now. Watching system fall apart, this will be as bad as the 90's if not worse. 9 months is optimistic but 12-18 months may see either a full collapse or a rebound. I worked for Yellow twice and can say they were grossly mismanaged and the executives should be sued both before the shotgun wedding to Roadway(should of died then) then 2 years ago they just scammed the feds out of that money until they couldn't steal any more
Full collapse is coming.. consumer demand is about to be exhausted and will lead to millions of job losses. It will take years for a rebound, both in freight rates, and the economy overall. Anyone who says freight rates will recover anytime soon is either engaged in wishful thinking or is deliberately misleading their audience. I wish none of this were the case, but history shows clearly that printing gobs of money always leads to reduced spending power from inflation. This "sugar high" is about to crash badly.
@@MK-fc2hn freight rates will rebound but not to insane levels of a few years ago,the system is killing off all lower tier operations(lower capitalized, over leveraged) but low quality, low cost(sometimes below operating cost) are still surviving but it s race to the bottom. Not too long decimation will cause rate increases to quality(get it there,on time, undamaged) carriers that shippers demand. Look for fall off of used equipment, repo, auction sales as markers of bottom.
I’m a truck driver in California. I’m lucky I’m having my best year. My company almost closed down we are staying alive. I just lost my great medical but I still have a lower quality insurance
Sorry fella but talking freight rates are down, a big part of it is crooked/greedy brokers...take a load let's say pays $3.00@ mile, cut it to $1.60-$1.80 and claim its the customers doing it, is B.S. and the 1st company you referenced...Surge is guilty of that, horrendously, I know for a fact myself and them are Bid on same customer outta Wisconsin, average on the loads are $2.95-$3.35.. we broker them out less 8%(which drops loads to $2.75-$3.05)...yet Surge and tons of other crooks out there drop to $1.68-$1.75....other words cut them in half... now claim there broke, nope they ran outta drivers to screw over... it's called Karma... and they all need a dose of it....
We need to get rid of the broker's
Thank you sir, I learn a lot from you during the last two years , wish you have a good time after this crisis 🎉.
Definitely a ruff time for us. Thanks for your great work 👍
Outstanding video, very informative! Thank you
So inspiring to listen to you
I have 3 trucks. It is a very stressful periods. The loads are hard to find. Dont haul cheap freight
Switch to flatbeds
Everyone switching to it
I`m on Flatbed ! And B-Train and the third truck is with a stepdeck rolltite !! It is almost dead. ...@@seanreynolds1051
Is the answer switching to flatbed? I know a few flatbed companies that are struggling at the moment.
I run flatbed. Why would he say that. Flatbed is saturated terribly.
Crazy as hell back in the 80’s we wouldn’t think about picking up a load for less than 2 bucks a mile!!
The current issue with rates right now I think are the double brokers one guy booking the load at a higher rate then rebooking it again at a lower rate. The load boards should block these guys who do that it's ridiculous.
Too many trucks. Too little freight. Too many drivers. It’s not rocket science.
Everyone and their mother were buying trucks so that they can become instant business owners. They ruined it
My company does proffesional dispatch for 3.3% I think anything over 4% for dispatch is a rip off, good video btw.
I was one of the Matheson layoffs. Good job, paid hourly. They lost routes they had for a long time by being aggressively underbid.
Underbid by whom?
The trucking companies bid low on freight to push out the independent truckers and now they are paying for their greed and the independent truckers will pick up the slack
They did this to themselves.
EXXXACTLY!
Yesterday i got stuck in every truck stop each for over 30 minutes in packed truck stops over run with trucks
Thank your current leaders
Q: How do you make a million dollars in the trucking industry?
A: Start with 2 million..
Hey! You stole my joke! No worries, I stole it from someone, too.
How do you male a small fortune in trucking? Start with a large fortune!😉
Amen to that brother!!! I worked for NEMF!! 13 YRS.RETIRED IN 2018 YEAR LATER WENT BELLY-UP!!!
Excellent content.
Thanks for broadcasting much needed
Luckily for me I run a dedicated auto parts load, good pay and not bad hours
I work for a freight company and I just heard this morning that half of all the drivers quit today.😅
more like 6-9 years not months , greed will be the distruction of the world!!
Looking like the UAW could strike come the 15th of September... Word on the street, here in Detroit, at least what I am hearing from folks at JNAP and SHAP (RAM/Jeep), is that they are striking. They do that, quite a few small and medium outfits will be closing their doors. If you are a Big 3 carrier, make damn sure you have no Big 3 automotive freight on your trailers come September 14th. You will get screwed if these guys strike.
So true - #1 online
Nice job
The best case scenario says around Christmas 2024, but that's a total spectacularly optimistic view from Wall Street speculators I say if it comes back all it will be no sooner than 2025-2026.
I base that on some banks offering 5.5% Cd's for 14 to 24 months , Banks are betting 2 years, I am following the money
Excellent video thanks for sharing.
The Russian subtitles are neat. In all seriousness, this is boom and bust industry, and you MUST know where you are in the cycle. Plan and budget extensively for the lean times. The good times never last forever.
Finally, somebody who understands the "Trucking" game. I applaud you.
Neat would be Hindi subtitles!
All shipping costs are going to start skyrocketing.
Wages for truckers need to go up significantly. Energy inflation is going up.
Cool video
I’ve leased my truck onto at least 15 different companies this yr spending no more than two weeks at one BC they lie and it’s just too difficult to get good paying loads fuel is like 4.5 to 5.0 a gallon truck payment is like 4,400 a month daaaaaamn I don’t think I’m going to make it much longer
Im 10 months into trucking. My first few months I was averaging 7 to 7.75 mpg. Then my ECM was replaced with a new one. Now I get 8.5 to 9 mpg. Didn't change my driving habits.
What??? WAs the ECM upgraded somehow to a better one, or was the original ECM malfunctioning somehow?
@@r0ckworthy I am not sure. I didn't know it needed to be replaced. I had no indication on my end. I drive a 2019 Volvo. I was probably around 580,000 miles. That buzzer that goes off when a vehicle is too close in front of me got louder.
@@r0ckworthy oh yeah. My turn signal didn't make that ticking sound when I had it engaged until right after the ECM was replaced.
The older they get the fuel average is better
ECM monitors all the other computers of a truck and tells the engine how much fuel to add for a desired outcome. this in it of itself will help with fuel efficiency. makes all the sense.
This makes me glad my dad talked me into driving for a company like Frito lay
Small company I drive for just cut driver's pay across the board because of the bad market and the boss said financially reasons as well!
I wonder if E-logs are contributing to the cash crunch. When I started driving in the early 90's it was common to run 4000mls a week logging everything at the speed limit. My last year OTR in 2018 I was avg only. 2670 per week. So then companies put more trucks on the road to make up for lost productivity and then the rates nosedive.
Number one factor
E logs are the least of my worries. The loads are so few and far between that you’re not going to find enough work to fill 50 hours out of a 70 hour clock. If you’re running flatbed especially, you’ve only got a 5 day work week because if you try to take a long haul out over the weekend then you’re going to get a load paying less than $1.50/mile while the cost to move the truck is roughly $0.45/mile and rising. I got into shorter runs that are light weight and paying significantly better because they are multi stop and no one wants to deal with them but even that’s drying up. I was running less than 2,500 miles every week but at least I was getting money for the miles that I was putting on the truck. It’s ridiculous out here. I keep hearing about this company shutting down, that company laying off drivers, and a shortage of overall freight but you think that would mean that fuel would at least be lower if the demand for fuel was actually lower.
They aren't
@@CaptainDaccatThere is less fuel also. Because Biden closed 4 rafineries. And we are in a crunch for fuel and prices go big. On top of that US lifted export ban on fuel back in 2015. That is one more factor taken in to the account. And nobody talks about it.
Thank you very much. I didn't know that u can ask a break for a finance company of car
Ronen!!! Yee yee
the housing market is the same! its all luxury this luxury that till you cant pay the bill. everyone wanted a piece of the flip it pie but there was to many people at the table. time is up!
anyone remember the dirty 30s? that is what is happening now with interest rates and missive government handouts without the physical product
It all comes down to basic business 101. They are spending more than what they getting in revenue.
The stage is being set for driverless trucks…
That can't happen for another 10 years to even come close to covering all the loads. What do you do with all the trucks that are not driverless lol.
That’s not gonna happen anytime soon
I drive for a company that pays salary. We just found out that our company is decreasing our salary by $400 a week.
That must be distressing. Best of luck.
Mine pays salary, and evertime we pull that's not precast, they gives a 50 dollar gift card.
I was able to find a new job now. This new job is still going strong. I'm sure they'll slow but we'll see what happens
@drayke6936 what state do you live in?
That is a instant quit , glad you found a new job
This guy is awesome 👌 👏 👍 facts!!!!!!
Thank goodness im a car hauler, cars are paying more than unskilled dry van and they are always cars on the board
The biggest problem it is owner operator get the cheapest loads and they come with excuses I need to pay the bills if everybody will stay home for the for the week don't get any louds something is it's going to change it's going to be a? Because the shelf on the store wheel become empty and they need to pay better need to sacrifice for better
They will complain but they don’t realize that they are the biggest problem with this industry. There’s no unity here
SWIFT JUST BOUGHT US EXPRESS that should be a red flag if you can afford to buy while everyone else is closing it says a lot maybe good maybe bad but it definitely says something.
I’m in the car business and business is booming ! Not sure why but keep this train running !
Chip shortage and pent up demand. Should last a couple more years. After that, the market for new cars will CR ASH. Because of inflation and the millions of jobs that are about to go POOF!
This is where I disagree. As a company driver, I haven’t slowed down a bit. I’m still on track to make six figures, W-2. I’ve shown every pay statement on my RUclips channel. Keep up the fantastic content. Great editing work.
Consider yourself lucky. While you are flexing your checks online, you don’t know what’s going to happen within 6 months from now. While you are showing off your checks make sure you are saving as well because I would hate for your company to go south on you
@@miguelrobb5719 No! It’s not luck. It is networking and research. You focus on on it can’t be done, I look for how it can be done. Part of my research was into the company. They’ve been running since 1946 and have a fantastic owner. However, if it went a bad direction, I’ve made enough contacts with other drivers, at good companies that I’d move right into another. I left this company for 24 weeks in 2022. I was trying something different.
When I decided that I didn’t like it, I gave and worked out a full month’s notice. When I left, I got to their terminal on a Thursday. Cleaned out the truck. Flew to this company and was rolling with a load Saturday. Barely took a 34.
I’m not flexing. I’m trying to educate. I show every pay statement on my channel. Hood, bad, and otherwise. I watch, or at least listen to as many trucking content creators as I can.
Can you buy truck companies from bankruptcy court. The wearhouse capabilities sound attractive enough.
Im not a driver.
But I know if it happens to you, it could happen to me or most definitely will happen to me
Getting rid of international drivers will then increase loads and revenue for all American drivers and companies.
To a point.. but the eco nomy is about to cra sh next year, so it won't help when consumer demand goes off a sharp cliff.
30 plus years out here this happens every 8 to 12 years rates go down. If your company started after 2010 i would be doing some research on them. 08 took a lot of companys out of business. I remember buying fuel for .79 cents the it jumped up to a 1.50 overnight thats when we started getting a fuel surcharge. That took a lot of company's out back then. The large company's will start to slow there trucks down to save money. If you don't have a clean diving record you will be next
Everyone is feeling the burn right now regardless of a driving record
It's a big ferris wheell ... we're going down now... who's survive gonna still on the market
I will fill bankruptcy soon my small business is closing , even if you payed for all equipment not matter we don’t make any money from trucking business, God blessing you
I cancelled my authority insurance and my authority has been revoked 2 days ago. I don’t care though, because I got sick of the nonsense in this industry. I have a paid off truck and trailer but the money just isn’t there anymore. After somewhere during 2022 it all just went to crap with these rates and inflation. I’m currently transitioning to aviation so that I can be a commercial pilot.
@@miguelrobb5719 I’m currently working locally fuel delivering and making $32 dollars an hour can’t complain anymore, I’m free of been ripping off from other people on trucking business, God blessing you,
How about green new rules cost
Exactly why it's not a terrible idea too own cash trucks even with higher fuel costs and maintenance at least when its slow.or break even rates you can park them against the fence take plates off. Too many companies financed way above there heads.people have big dreams and no money. Sometimes having a few trucks with not all this overhead of office staffs mechanics big shop payments or rent .
Sometimes it's better to be small and efficient then have these big unrealistic dreams of owning more and more trucks.
I know a guy like that. He always seems to have that “million dollar idea” and a big dream when it comes to these trucks. He always talks about expending and putting drivers into other trucks. I kept explaining to him “you can’t just get these expensive ass trucks and slap a driver in the seat and expect to make crazy money right off the bat. What are you going to do when the truck breaks down? How are you going to pay for that driver’s hotel? Are you still going to pay them while they are broken down?”. I was operating off of 1 paid of truck for 6 years and I was doing pretty good. He was wondering why I was so stable. I kept telling him it’s because all of my stuff is paid for and I don’t bite off more than I can chew”. He is still being stubborn for the most part. He is on his 12th truck right now. He keeps losing the truck and getting another one and losing it again. And this guy has the nerve to try to tell me how to manage my finances and how to run business lol. Anyways I hung my keys up and I’m transitioning to flying commercially. Trucking was “interesting” but it’s time for me to go
Do you have any idea how many fewer trucks are on the road due to all of these bankruptcies? Do these count for .05% 1%, or maybe even 5%. I'd be interested to know the total contraction of our industry.
Also curious on this
Too many trucks on the road and they all drive like morons
Me too
Truckstops still full!🤯
Thanksgiving Day will not be a good holiday. Christmas Day will not be any better. Easter 🐣 forget about it!
WOW!!!! Just sad!!!
Today, Knight-Swift announced 20-30% pay cuts totaling millions of dollars for their top executives. Drivers are not getting pay cuts yet, though.
Essentially, at Knight-Swift, we expect to miss earnings targets for Q3 and Q4 across all parts of the business, and not just because of the US Xpress merger.
The Q2 earnings call for KNX shareholders was pretty awful, with a lot of upset investors. And without direct action, the Q3 and Q4 earnings calls will be even worse.
And the reason why comes down to these low freight rates, as our safety is improving, along with key metrics in every other major area.
That's just great news, NOT. I'm starting truck driving school on Monday. I spent 5 thousand dollars out of pocket. I hope that I will be able to get a job once I graduate
@@gregorylyon1004 Knight-Swift is going to be letting go of the bottom 200-300 drivers with the lowest mpg and the worst idle times.
But Knight-Swift will continue hiring and training new drivers to fill those trucks. We have contracts and we have freight, but profit margins are so thin right now that we can’t afford to keep the drivers who are using too much fuel since they are costing the company too much money. Most of these drivers who will be let go are drivers who insist on just leaving their company truck idling. I’m very fuel-conscious and I’m in the top 5% of KNX drivers in the dispatch mpg metric, so I’m not worried about the cuts.

why are freight rates so low?
Did you start driving a truck ronan
Well it comes down to common sense, the industry is oversaturated with cut rate company first, second to many cheap rate companies trying to sell drivers trucks under lease programs to new drivers coming in industry telling them they can make big$$$$ . Third is drivers wages are in toilet always have been , guys coming into industry are lied to about how much they can make 99% are delusional on realistic wages and income out here,so many new to industry can't or won't go out for 8 to 12 weeks at a time then go home for a week .facts are facts trucking industry is unemployment line of America. Everybody wants to get paid off the truck but nobody wants to pay the truck. There a middle man in everything dealing with trucking. Everything.
That’s what I’m saying!!! Everybody wants to “break a piece” off of your paychecks. There ain’t no money to be made when everyone has their hands in your pockets.
