The scene in Conjuring 2 where they talk to the entity by looking away from it while the camera is out of focus as the entity slowly reveals itself is legit the most creative thing I've ever seen a mainstream horror film do. I think James Wan can get a bit too repetitive with his direction of horror films, but occasionally he does a scene like that where it reminds you how clever of a director he can really be.
The Conjuring 2 is so good. It has the best cinematography, the most emotionally gripping family dynamic, the best of Ed & Lorraine’s relationship, and some of the scariest moments
I agree but I honestly enjoy Ed and Lorraine’s relationship more in the 3rd film. I love the guitar scene in 2 but the heart pills scene in 3 was great
@@jordanmccoy1099 I can see where you’re coming from but the scenes of Lorraine trying to save Ed’s life & then dancing together in the end of The Conjuring 2 really put it at the top for me. Indeed. Some of the best horror films ever made. Conjuring universe is pretty solid overall with some duds. Insidious 3 is my favorite of the other universe of films.
The first Insidious is by far one of my favorite horror movies of all time. Genuinely chilled me to my bones lol. Dang near perfect horror movie in my opinion. The Red Door was very disappointing. I felt like they revisited the original and took all of the horror out of it! I still love both of these franchises though. Awesome tier list!
Gonna be honest. I watched Insidious for the first time like 2 weeks ago, and I could not have been more unimpressed. It wasn’t bad, but I’ve heard plenty of people in the same boat as you, and I was nowhere near as receptive.
@proto, I do agree it has aged a little. It probably doesn’t have the impact now that it did when it first came out. Horror has evolved a lot since then. Glad you were able to check it out though!
As a horror fan and a romantic at heart, I just love Ed and Lorraine - the movie versions not the real people 😆 The Conjuring wins for me just for Vera Farmigas performances and the emotional elements alongside the scares ❤️ The 2nd film is one of my favourites. Incidious for me is all just okay.
The original Annabelle isn’t a great movie but it does have one of the most effective jump scares ever with the little girl that runs into the door and comes through a psychotic full grown woman. For that scene alone, I can’t call it terrible.
@@nusaibasayeed7395 ugggh i fucking hate it. I saw it in conjuring and its just disturbing. God if it happens to some kid in creation i'm actually gonna be disturbed. btw, i thought annabelle 1 was actually really good 8 for me
I definitely agree with the snoozefest entries (except for the nun 2, I haven't seen yet) but I'd rather watch the curse of La Llorona over the nun anyway if I HAD to choose. My wife and I saw the nun in the theaters and I was desperately trying to stay awake.
The only thing I’ll disagree w is The Curse of La Llorona not being advertised. I swear I saw the clip of her cleaning the girl’s hair in the tub at least 12 times a day as an ad on youtube. It was so annoying it made me actively not want to watch it
Calling the eyes of St Lucy a macguffin is fair I suppose but it also revealed how Sister Irene and Lorraine Warren are related and I’m surprised by how many people didn’t even notice or pick up on that
I've honestly wanted to see a comparison between both franchises for a long time and even though it will never happen, it would be really cool to see these franchises crossover. For the most part, my list is very close to this, the major item that's different is that I genuinely enjoyed The Nun 2 WAY better than the first movie and would probably rank it as "Good". Now I would probably rank these differently depending on the day, but today I would generalize them as follows: Great - The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, Annabelle Comes Home Good - Insidious 1-4 (#2 is actually my favorite), The Nun 2 Okay - Annabelle, The Curse of LL, The Nun, The Conjuring 3, Insidious: The Red Door
Cody, I agree with all your choices, except one. I thin "INSIDIOUS" needs to go up a notch. This is the movie that spawned the sequels. It didn't have the bite that THE CONJURING' had, but the creep effect was TTR. It should've been a stand alone film; no need for the lackluster sequel.
Definitely recommend A Haunting in Venice. Not exactly for the overall quality but for the atmosphere with the wide shots and fisheye lenses that look just like the original Resident Evil. In fact I think it captures the atmosphere of that original mansion better than any other movie to date.

I’ll probably always hold The Conjuring in extremely high regard. It’s nothing new, but it does what it does so RIGHT. My mom took me to see it in the theater for my 18th birthday and we were both ridiculously hyped leading up to it, and weren’t disappointed. It’s a modern classic imo, and very rewatchable. I find the “happy ending” very refreshing as well. Usually I like a dark ending, but with the themes of love and family, the good ending made sense. Insidious also hasn’t aged as well for me, but it’s got a special place in my heart. My bff and I saw it on a weekday afternoon as teenagers out of boredom. We’d scrounge up what little money we had and put it together to do shit like go to the movie theater. Neither of us had ever heard of Insidious, but came out of the theater having a great time. So I think the experience itself boosts the movie for me personally.
I liked Insidious 3 just watched it. I thought the man that can’t breath was cool and actually had a motivation for what he did. It made sense at least so I actually like it more than the first.
The Conjuring is my favorite horror franchise, and I really like the Insidious franchise. Here's my current ranking: AWESOME The Conjuring 2 (my favorite horror movie, and in my top 10 favorite movies) The Conjuring Insidious (probably the movie that scares me the most) GREAT Annabelle Comes Home (I have this above creation bc it's a bit lighter fare. The first part is great, but I was let down by the rest of the movie.) Annabelle (I don't dislike this movie, just something has to come in last place)
Patrick Wilson movies v Patrick Wilson movies, lol! I'm looking forward to this tier ranking. Never seen The Conjuring The Devil Made Me Do It, so I'm interested where you'll put that one.
So, wait: James Wan created Insidious, The Conjuring, and Saw, and they ALL had/have installments this year? Wow. Busy guy, or proof of Hollywood unoriginality at its finest? You decide. Lol.
The Curse of La Llorona is controversial for me. Growing up in a mostly Mexican/hisapnic town their we're many rumors that bullys and or parents would tell us to act good or to scare us. And that some kids were taken away from La Llorona in certain areas of bridges or creepy old schools, it was almost real for me and my sisters so this is a movie that hits close to home
I love Patrick Wilsons possesed performance with the guy with the dice " mother says you like to play with dice come on roll them see what I'm holding behind my back"
I watched all the movies in the Spirit İnsidious series and the Conjuring movie series at the same time. The creepiest movie is Spirit Zone and Lights Out. Finally, Annabelle and Creation
This video hits hard. I have a bittersweet love for The Conjuring and Insidious films because my mom was such a huge fan of them. She constantly rewatched them and I would join her and we would just dissect them. Unfortunately she passed away before the third Conjuring movie came out but that one wasn’t even great. Watching the new Insidious film just brought me back to those days watching the first movie in the series with her so I think that’s a big reason why I liked it but I totally get your opinions and even agree with most. Love this video and can’t wait for more! Thanks for making my night! 🖤
I know why conjuring 3 was called “devil made me do it” because it was based on a real case where some guy killed someone and his defense was “the devil made me do it” and was trying to get “not guilty because of reason of possession” or something like that, (don’t remember if it worked) but I agree, I think a simpler title should have been used
1. Insidious 2. The conjuring 3. Insidious chapter 3 4. Annabelle creation 5. The conjuring 2 6. Insidious: the red door 7. Insidious chapter 2 8. the conjuring the devil made me do it 9. Annabelle comes home 10. The nun 2 12. The nun 13. The curse of la lorona 14. Annabelle 15. Insidious the last key
I really liked Valak/The Nun and I think it's a damn shame that despite having 2 of her own movies they just can't recapture the effective scares or creepiness' that she had in Conjuring 2. I haven't seen either of The Nun movies because I heard that they are both trash. Valak deserved better. What should have been an easy win to heighten that character even further turned into a total dumpster fire instead. They had a layup and they somehow ruined it.
Conjuring Insidious Annabelle: Creation Conjuring 2 Annabelle Comes Home Insidious 3 Insidious 5 Insidious 2 Insidious 4 Conjuring 3 The Nun 2 Annabelle The Nun Curse of La Llorna
I always have a pretty funny story when I watched the Conjuring for the first time, was at home with my ex partner, just turned 16, was about to “do the deed” then that fucking wardrobe scene happened and I damn near shit myself and safe to say fully ruined the moment. I fucking love that film but I’ll never take that scene seriously again 🤣
Nun 2 was amazing imo… I am a hardcore horror fan and conjuring 1&2 are definitely the best in this list but the Nun 2 was way better than any of the insidious films. The scares and cinematography is just unmatched compared to those films, the way James Wan made this film felt fresh and also familiar with his classic scare flair. Plus the end scene and credit scene was amazing, tied into Lorraine and Irene being related and descendants of st Lucy, which explains their medium gifts.. plus the movie never got boring, they cut the fat and got straight to the point. Loved the holy blood scene especially 👌🏼💥 very cool
I agree completely. Nun-2 is the 3rd best movie in the entire franchise imo. Also, the magazine stand scene is one of the best horror movie scenes in awhile.
I love horror movies that have teens and kids(s) who are home alone defending their home. It has a familiar element of having a babysitter or hanging out with an older sibling, watching movies, eating snacks and sharing ghost stories. Except in Annabelle 3, they do all that, but are in the actual ghost story. So I love Annabelle 3, despite flaws. My tradition is to get some pizza, crack open a bottle of good rum or whiskey and have a blast watching it.
I haven't seen any of the Insidious movies but all of The Conjuring Universe movies that I've seen have been extremely boring it's basically just jump-scares throughout the entire movie because nobody dies except for in the third one unless you want to count the dog in one of the first two movies literally nothing happened other than a couple of ghosts coming out to say boo I really don't get why people hype this franchise up as much as they do
You forgot "the Amityville Horror franchise" , "the demon murder case" , "the haunted" , "the haunting in connecticut" and "the enfield haunting" because they are also part of the conjuring univers.
Please respond to this, Cody, or someone that knows, because I’m confused. In the Nun 2, there’s the scene where the little girl follows “her mom” up stairs. Door opens, and it’s the long hallway with the nun, from Conjuring 2. Why is that in this movie?
So I just watched Insidious Chapter 3 after watching this video. It was pretty forgettable compared to 1 and 2. Your friends were right. 2 is the best in the series.
I cant go with Annabelle 3 and Annabelel 1 being comapred, just like the conjurijg 3 also, they are in the good part for me... the num 2 was also good rank for me... other is ok for me, the nun 1 watchable...
I've always considered these movies to be part of the same shared universe Kind of like the marvel movies so it's funny that you did a tier ranking comparing them to each other. Technically I know they're not but in my head I just consider them all part of a hole
Annabelle is my 2nd least favorite horror movie that I've watched. Horrible acting and not scary at all imo. Annabelle Creation is one of my favorites actually and is on par with The Conjuring. I'd have to rewatch them to truly say which one is my favorite in the franchise. The 3rd movie is has long title just because the name of the case was "The Devil made me do it case"
Annabelle and The Red Door were complete snoozefests for me (especially the red door which I thought was horrible) The Nun 2 is a huge step up from the original though so I completely disagree with you on that.
The first time I got to watch The Conjuring was such a treat and so scary for me. Watched it at one of my good friend’s house and we watched it on her older tv and it made the experience so much creepier especially watching it in her older home with the lights off. Was such a memorable movie experience
The Conjuring films kinda bore me because their just another Ghost movie. Insidious gives a reason for the hauntings and much better writings and characters.
i haven’t seen the nun 2 left, but what i wish the first nun was was following one nun at the abbey in romania watching all her friends die and then we end with valak possessing frenchie or the suicide from the first movie
My list: Awesome- The Conjuring 1 & 2 Great- Insidious 3, The Nun 2 Good- Annabelle: Creation, Insidious, The Conjuring: TDMMDI Watchable- Insidious 2, Annabelle Comes Home, The Nun, Insidious: TLK, Insidious: TRD, The Curse Of LL Snoozefest- Annabelle

conjuring 2 had some amazing scenes ... the nun attacking Lorraine in the dark room , the dog turning into the crooked man , and more

The Conjuring 2 is so good. It has the best cinematography, the most emotionally gripping family dynamic, the best of Ed & Lorraine’s relationship, and some of the scariest moments

Insidious is better than the Conjuring.
no way in hell, that shit mid af
Annabelle and The Red Door were complete snoozefests for me (especially the red door which I thought was horrible)
The Nun 2 is a huge step up from the original though so I completely disagree with you on that.
The nun 2 did everything better than the first one…better story, better locations, better kills, and more entertaining:)
Idk why but both franchise is meh for me. Nothing memorable or enjoyable enough to watch it again....
Awesome tier list Cody 👍 hope you feeling much better keep up the awesome work
Am i the only one that strongly disagrees with the placemennt of The Devil Made me Do It??? I really liked it, thought it was such a fresh take!
Actually i liked 'The Curse of La Llorona' that is the only disagreement i have with this list maybe , apart from that you nailed it
Conjuring 1, Conjuring 2, Insidious 3, and Annabelle creation are the best
valak gunna come after you for those comments bro LMAOOO but i agree with your whole list !!
SSuspira 2018 was much better then all these nun, conjuring films
I have the same shirt! 🎃
Glad your back and hope you're feeling better, man.
To me there's Conjuring in good and everything else you can throw in the garbage, even the Conjuring 2.
Im going to get TORE apart for this. But I actually like the nun 😬😂😂
They didn’t want to connect the girl from the nun, and Loraine because Lorain is a real person, and it’s be weird to do something like that
I can’t wait for Leigh wenialls Green hornet Reboot the camera work is going to be insane
The nun is such a weird movie. That character itself and the actress are friggin awesome! But these movies are just awful
I think I know it tearless should we next AVP it's like literally right there in the name
i haven’t seen the nun 2 left, but what i wish the first nun was was following one nun at the abbey in romania watching all her friends die and then we end with valak possessing frenchie or the suicide from the first movie
all them joints weak sauce 😅…the first one might be cool cus of the red faced demon but after that 👎🏾
No way the 1st insidious is just good and 2nd is just watchable…come on bro
Finally someone else that likes Insidious 3
i havent watched any of these movies anything demonic i just wont watch ive heard some of them are very good i just wont watch them
