I’m surprised Rookie Of The Year never got bigger, they did have a good following with the scene kids but never broke out big. As a former musician myself I think the songs were very well written with an original sound, the guitar work is very original, Ryan’s voice is amazing, the recordings have that high quality big expensive studio sound right on point with the pros that spend a few hundred bucks an hour for studio time and a well known producer! In my opinion they really had that original organic feel to the band that so many massive bands had that jumped them into the spotlight not just another band that sounds like a bunch of bands you have already heard. I would have to guess they just didn’t have a good enough record label that was able to promote them and do what was needed to be done to get them to the next level. It’s cool Ryan is still doing his thing but he definitely didn’t get the notoriety that was deserved for the amount of talent he possesses. When your a musician you can listen to a song and know instantly that the band ground breaking or just another band.
I really liked him in farewell to fashion. Just realized he left them for ROTY. And yeah, I did an album w their studio producer matt Malpass years ago in Atlanta. Really cool dude, down to earth.
Just discovered the song blue roses from a demo CD that was hidden in a CD case I thrifted. What a great band. I’m sad they didn’t gain more traction. I feel so late to the party! I could’ve gone to see them when I was younger.

Yeah, it's hard to break through, even when you have a lot of the right things going for you.

Exactly my dude. I really dig their record 'Sweet Attention'. I use it to compare my studio mixes.
If it’s a smaller lesser known band I always know it’s going to be a good discovery.
