Great race Dan and congrats on the first win! I'm a new subscriber but have been a part of iRacing for 9 years. There are some great advice here in everyone's comments. #1 is your braking. Like others have said, 80% is a good rule of thumb. You will not feel a lockup in the MX5 because of the ABS, however, the anti lock isn't great in this sim. You will overheat the fronts and end up with understeer which you seemed to be having a lot of at the end. You can get cheeky with it by reducing your max input in the configs (Dan Suzuki did a tutorial on this). That will only give you about 80% when you go full brake. You could also learn it by pedal feel. The best way is to download MoTeC and turn on data logging in sim. It's easy to see where ABS kicks in as it will be a straight up and down chatter in the brake signal instead of a smooth line in MoTeC. Dan's Tutorial: ruclips.net/video/z3QS69n0psc/видео.html Next is to sign up for VRS (Virtual Racing School). There is a free tier which would be perfect for your needs right now. Paid tiers allow you to have side by side replays of your lap vs a pro's lap along with inputs to see how you can improve + competitive setups for higher race classes. There is a wealth of knowledge there so its a great place to start. Trading paints for tons of good liveries and to see other racer's custom skins. Tip: When browsing skins, you will see a lot designated as PRO and some that are not. Ignore that as you can run any skin that shows up. PRO just means that user has a paid account. For the longest time I thought you couldn't run pro skins as a free user haha. Ranking up: Basically, do exactly what you did in this race. Safety effects your license so just focus on getting as little incidents as possible. Once you leave rookie license, you will be able to see your iRating. You are still gaining & losing rating according to your finish now but you just won't be able to see it. You cannot compete above your license but you can go back down at any time to race a lower level. Good Visual Explanation: ruclips.net/video/krG_hrr5xlo/видео.html iRating: It's a lot like gambling with a pool of rating. If you are car #1 in the race, you have a lot to lose if you don't finish top 3. If you are one of the highest numbered cars, you have a lot to gain. Lower finishing driver's rating is pulled from them and distributed among better finishing drivers. Here is another visual explanation: ruclips.net/video/p3wlWGkE35A/видео.html Anyways, glad to see you are an official iRacer now. Hopefully we will bump into each other some day. There are many amazing leagues within the service if you want to go that route but they do not effect your iR or SR. Public ranked races can be very hit or miss especially in the lower classes and splits. Best advice I can give is to just have fun. I took it way too serious years ago trying to keep my rating right around 5,000 to make pro and hated it. Now I race for fun and love it. my iRacing name: Ryan Ingle
Holy moly Ryan, that is one EPIC comment. Thank you so much for taking the time out to write that and share the knowledge mate! 😍 I shall digest all of this over the next few days and undoubtely learn a lot of very valuable things I was missing during this video. I've already recorded my 2nd race so it's too late for that unfortunately, but from this point onwards I feel like I'm going to be a lot more prepared thanks to you 👍 really appreciate it! And with regards to my outlook on iRacing, this is more of an experiement than anything super serious. I've been doing the simracer RUclips thing for a few years now (mostly RaceRoom and rF2) and can't escape the fact that iRacing always seems to crop up so figured it was time to dive in. I have no goals, no specific paths I want to follow, instead I'm just taking it one step at a time and seeing where the journey leads me. Hopefully see you out on track some time 😉
First race, first win...wasn't expecting that! But just goes to prove what people have been saying about the fact you can literally just jump into a race at any time and be matched with people of a similar skill level. Looking forward to progressing to some further categories and really stretching the legs now 😎
Congrats Dan, definitely not a bad start! Nice to have a peek into that sim and it's online community too, but also happy to know you won't quit other sims for it. : )
It's only the tip of the iceberg, but I'm quite intrigued to see what else is available. The oval racing is spoken very highly of and we all remember how awesome the Daytona event was 😍 so I might give that a try sometime soon too...but for now the focus is on improving my road license! Not at the expense of RaceRoom though, that always comes first 👍
Cracking job, congrats. I got into iRacing 3 months ago and can recommend the fixed Ferrari series as the next step from MX5 series. All the best with the channel for 2021.
Cheers Nelson, thanks for the best wishes mate! I've been looking at the skippies and perhaps Porsche cup, but a few recommendations are coming in for Ferrari fixed too. Lots to choose from which is awesome for the channel, but maybe not so much for my bank account 😉 maybe see you on track some time!
Nice 1st race Dan. Keep that up and you should be out of rookies in 2-3 more races! (although the mx5 races are still good fun outside rookies and super competitive) Have paused my iracing account for a while due to lack of time, but hope to get back on it after house move in Feb as this just reminds me how good it is! Look forwards to seeing more iR content!
I see Matt Malone consistently going back to the MX5 and now I understand why, it's a great little car to throw around on default setup! I imagine with bigger grids and closer splits it'll be much more competitive, but even without the leader spinning right infront of me it would have been a comfortable 2nd place which was honestly not what I was expecting. Have already got race 2 lined up, just need to finish the edit but managed to get a special guest along to spot for me 🤩
Thanks Brendan 😁 this was my first ever iRacing video from last year though, I've done plenty more since then if the post decides to take a while this week 😉
Oh I'm not too sure about that Charles 🤔 it'll take me a while to get up to A class, even with clean racing every time. Something I'm noticing is the level of participation required is pretty high and, to be honest, RaceRoom still comes first for me and the channel. I'll do my best to squeeze in as much iRacing as possible of course, but it might be tricky 👍
Thanks again for making this possible man, you're the true hero of these videos! The response has been quite overwhelming if I'm being honest, I wasn't expecting such positivity in the comments considering the negative/toxic rep that iRacing seems to gather sometimes 🤔 this is a very refreshing experience so...here's to more of the same.
@@DDFRacer I think it's great man. I'm really happy that went so well thus far! My biggest worry is just that I didn't want to make it feel like an obligation so I'm glad you really enjoyed it and many other people did as well.
Great race Daniel! A win on your 1st race too!!! Have not tried iracing, my system is not fast enough to run it, so waiting for a new system. I do run AC and play a little with RR, I'd like to do some of the ranked racing on RR but the times I've been on there is never anyone else in the rookie events....
I feel your pain about the RR ranked servers Walt and this is one of the big appeals of iRacing for me. Unless you're in Europe and racing at peak time then you'll struggle to find a decent turnout for the servers in RaceRoom...whereas here I jumped online in the middle of the day in Australia (normally the graveyard shift for the world's simracers) and had over 120 people signed up and ready to race. Amazing. It doesn't matter how much better RaceRoom is with regards to pricing, content or physics/FFB because the unfortunate truth is that nobody is racing it then the ranked servers will never take off 😢
Cheers Carlton, great to be here 👏 2nd race should be uploaded and published in a few hours hopefully once the edit is all finished. Hope to see you out on track some time 😎
Ha ha! I did this exact combo just last night, having not been on iRacing for months, great minds! Keep going like that you'll be out of Rookie in 3 races.
Great start to your iRacing-career! One hint regarding downshifting on the MX5 in iRacing: The car does not require the clutch on downshifts, just a throttle-blip. So you do not need to do heel-and-toe, but you can keep left foot braking on downshift-corners and briefly blip the throttle to get the gear in. This might give you some additional tenths as I see you are having the same trouble I do have in keeping constant braking-pressure when heel-and-toeing.
Oh, that's very useful to know! I'll give it a try in my next practice session but manual shifting has always been my achilles heel (pardon the pun 😂🤦♂️) so being able to keep my left foot on the brakes like the majority of other cars I drive will be a big advantage! Really appreciate that advice margar 👍👍
Hey man, thanks for the comment, hope you're keeping well! I love the shots you put on insta every now and then and, of course, thanks for the recommendation to RaceRoom nearly two years ago. I haven't forgotten that 😉 and I never would have predicted my RaceRoom content becoming so popular on the channel! Back on topic though and I can't wait to properly get stuck into iRacing. Once I get out of rookies there are so many series that have been recommended to me, but I know with certainty that none of them are going to go as smoothly as this 😅
Nice one Dan. You win it if you don't bin it 😊 But be cautious...iRacing wants to suck you in and keep all your time away from other sims. Part of their concept it seems...our RR community already lost a lot of racers to that epidemic.
Understood mate 😅 I just need to bin it less often! With regards to RaceRoom, that always takes priority 👍 my Tuesday Thunders and, more recently, Wednesday official ranked races are what the majority of people on this channel are here for so it would be a really bad idea to move away from that. Besides, I have too much fun doing them! iRacing is the sim that fits into the gaps in between everything else which actually works out perfectly since there always seems to be lots of racers online, no matter the time or day.
Welcome on board! Remember.. until you have Rookie license, arriving first or last never give you anything important (you no have iRating yet)... you just need to get 3.5 Safety rating to get a D license... GOOD WIN ANYWAY!
Great to be here Alvio 😎 although still plenty to learn! Each race will be an improvement upon the previous in terms of production so keep an eye out for better looking graphics and overlays in race 3 onwards 😉 which will hopefully get me one step closer to moving out of rookies and towards that D license you mention.
Excellent stuff. I started 5 days ago and enjoying the 911 Cup series in Class C. So I'm sure you'll do well. I don't think I'll be looking back from here. It's so difficult to find good races anywhere else
@@DDFRacer you just need to reach 4.0 SR and complete the MPR for instant upgrade. It's detailed in your Profile under Licenses. Between 3-4 upgrade at the end of season. Between 1-2 demoted
Welcome along 👏 great to have you here! This was my first ever iRacing video but I have another one coming out in the next few days so keep an eye out for that. Will be documenting my entire journey wherever I end up...
Wow congrats on that win! That just proves that we R3E drivers are the best in the world! I'm just kidding. I'm absolutely on Romantics side with the full race recordings, especially in VR. I don't want to miss out on something, even if it's a little on the boring side. I also don't watch the F1 highlights after the race when I can watch the whole race instead. Looking really forward to more races. I kinda missed watching your "offline" races to be honest. The livestreams are a ton of fun too and maybe even better. But sometimes you just want to kick back and relax while watching some premium bins whenever you want. :) Oh and good luck for tuesday thunder!
If you can survive a Raceroom public lobby then you're ready for anything iRacing could throw at you 😂 and funnily enough, I think having some community events with bad ping has actually helped me out too since I'm now always much more cautious of cars I know nothing about. That said, I know it's only going to get more difficult as my iRating goes up and I get matched with tougher opponents so I think I might savour this result for a while! I'm also thinking that offline videos will be a much better way of doing this career mode since there is usually a lot of waiting around between sessions, usually one race per hour which would leave a lot of space to fill in the livestreams. It also means I can just hop on whenever I want and do a race instead of locking in a fixed time 😉
I made the same mistake for my first race 😂 Also you need to say “I’m just here for SR so yeah good luck have fun I’ll just be at the back” before every event. But for future cars: I love the Formula Renault 2.0 since everyone is off crashing the F3 now, the Skippy is supposed to be fun and the IMSA Series is fantastic fun. Especially now it’s got DPi and P2
Reassuring to know that it wasn't just me being an idiot then 😉 thanks Aidan, not only for the confidence boost, but for the car tips too! Always looked fondly upon the skippy thanks to Matt Malone and Empty Box so hopefully it drives as well as I imagine...
Nicely done Dan, I think i won my first race in Iracing and I think it was this combo too. It quickly went downhill from there but I was pleased nonetheless with the result. I'd love to get into iRacing again and this might be the catalyst for me to do that... IF I CAN AFFORD IT Garghhh lol. Great vid thanks for sharing 😍😍👍
Well hopefully I can keep the momentum going but good to know I'm in decent company then eh Donk? 😉 (PS. I take no responsibility for any financial hardship you may endure due to iRacing...just thought I'd get that out the way 🤣)
The key to iRacing is trail braking, braking to max is rarely fast, hit about 90% then feed off the pedal as you turn in, 1.46.266 is my best here but some folks are hitting .1.44.9. You did great for your first race mind you, much better than my first.
Thanks Gonzo, you're not the first person to suggest lighter braking to me! I'm coming from other sims where maximum input is always the quickest way to slow it down...but then again I don't think those sims model ABS correctly so that's just another thing to take into account in iRacing 👍 really appreciate the heads up!
Yep that's the way to do it, stay safe and get into the higher licences. No guarantee that the racing will get any better 😅 but at those levels at least people have a good idea what they're doing. This video is from a few years back now though so I've got a fair few more races (and even enduros) under my belt 👍 but haven't actually been on iRacing for a few months now that I think about it. Should probably fire up the subscription again!
Great start! I note you seem to have done all the usual things right in your driving. Now you need to get more sophisticated. Your next BIG step is to learn how to trail brake. I noted there was NO USE OF BRAKES in the turns. I could talk about it, but you will find a bunch of videos on the subject - some good, some not so much, but ALL add to your knowledge base. Watch them, then practice it. You will find you are faster by anywhere from 1 to 3 seconds per lap.
Hey Paul 👋 thanks for the advice mate, much appreciated. I've definitely made some big improvements to my driving since I uploaded this video three years ago, mostly on the brakes like you said, as this was my first time in iRacing and I was still finding my feet, if you'll excuse the pun ha!
Ever since watching Empty Box all those years ago, running Skippies is something I've always wanted to do in iRacing so it's really cool that I now have the opportunity! Like you said, just need to get my license first 😁
lol that was a very similar start to my iRacing debut race. I also qualified first, but I got taken out from behind in T1, Lap 1. As I have already said before, I'm not a fan of iRacing. It's not the racing itself or the physics I don't like. It's the forums and the business model. Keep careful track on your spending on content for iRacing, as it can get very silly very fast. The MX5 / Okayama combo is great. The Spec Racer and the Skippy are also really fun here.
The channel is now in a very fortunate position that it can _almost_ self sustain itself thanks to your, and everyone elses, amazing support! That means an iRacing sub+content, DLC for ACC and rF2 etc, entries into enduro events and so on. I've always said that everything the channel makes will be reinvested into the racing so this is a great opportunity to see what iRacing is all about. Like yourself though, I don't agree with the business model too much, specifically the rental part. It seems so bizarre that you can spend all this money and not actually *own* anything, so I'm definitely taking this whole journey with great caution 👍
Having never experienced any of the previous tyre models and coming into iRacing completely fresh I can honestly say it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I was expecting! Which is a good thing because plenty of people had warned me about how bad it can feel to drive in this sim sometimes 😅 either way, looking forward to getting some more solid races under my belt.
@@DDFRacer I felt the same when i started playing iracing for the first time and like you i hesitated to play it because most people said tyre model is bad 😅 I must say that of every sim i played Iracing is the best and i mean it :D Never spend that much money on a sim and i feel that is worth it . Even if you don't own the content !
You should try the AI in Iracing . I think is one of the best if not the best AI in simracing ! You cannot use all the cars and tracks but they keep updating them .
I'm really sorry but I actually have no idea about the proximity indicator 😅 I only used these overlays a couple of times before switching over to Simhub and this was over three years ago now so that memory is long gone!
IRacing is awesome. Physics are as good as any really with the latest update. Mainly love the clean VR and the competitive racing any time you want. That said, I love all sims when raced online as they each offer something different. It’s like why would one play just one FPS game when you can play many? Same with sims. :)
Exactly! We're spoiled for choice with sims at the moment and each one offers something different and awesome. iRacing definitely wins it as far as the online participation and competition system goes...I've *never* been able to find a full server in the middle of the day here in Australia before and to have 100+ people sign up for this race was just mind blowing. I still need to dial in my VR settings a little though as some of the shadows and anti-aliasing looked pretty horrible in this video 😬
Thanks mate, wasn't expecting that result to be honest 😅 although the car felt pretty safe. This was fixed setup and there was a little margin for error in the handling which surprised me, not what I was led to believe about iRacing as I imagined it would be insta-death as soon as the car got loose. I was probably being a little conservative and still finding my feet but with more time no doubt I'll learn where the limits are a little more. Compared to RaceRoom? It's hard to say this early really since there isn't an equivalent car or circuit between the two that I've tried yet 🤔 but iRacing definitely takes the prize as far as VR performance and playercount is concerned. RaceRoom has better sounds/immersion and is much more financially sensible, but the jury is still out on the physics and handling. I've only scratched the surface so far which makes it a little difficult to give a full comparison, but I'll get back to you in a few months with a proper breakdown 👍
iRacing is the big brother of sim racing. Even ACC or AC are super tiny compared to iRacing. Of course there will be some shade thrown their way, it's not perfect and it's also very expensive. But no other sim can do what iRacing does.
iRacing has the ability to polarise like no other sim I've known...it seems that people either love it or hate it! So far I'm enjoying it but I've only experienced a fraction of what it has to offer so can't wait to see how other cars and circuits drive 👍 the ability to just jump into a race at any time it a massive advantage for myself though living in Australia and being awake at times when the majority of the world is sleeping. But like you say, it looks like it's going to be quite an expensive hobby should I really start to enjoy it 😬 and that worries me a little...
Highly recommend taking a spin at the Oval's and Dirt Oval racing in iRacing, a ton of fun and way more engaging than it looks! I joined iRacing this week with the goal of getting into a GTE soon, but boy has the Oval racing grabbed me!
Ovals is definitely something I want to try at some point since I really enjoy the concept and have loved the oval races I've done in other sims. What always lets it down is the lack of good AI or full course caution logic etc, which is something that iRacing really seems to have nailed since there are so many racers online usually.
@@DDFRacer Absolutely a blast with other people, just a heads up that the current rookies series doesn't seem to have cautions enabled, once you move to ARCA or other series they seem to bring that into play. I did my first Production Car Challenge race today in the Pontiac, really gave me some 2H of Spa flashbacks, that's for sure! :P
Nicely done! I had those same confusions in joining races when I started iracing. you don't need to leave the race practice server though. Just press the text "race" in the top right corner and it load in automatic =) I send you a friend request right away =)
When the schedule gets a little quieter, or I can quit my job and do simracing full time again (like that one month of lockdown in Brisbane earlier this year), then I'll be running straight back in your direction mate 👍 those F1 1996 races were quality, even if I was pretty terrible at it 😅
@@DDFRacer discovered that my Finney branch came over here from England in 1690's. Take care and keep up the great content. I am just starting my sim-racing career and I leveraged your videos to help make decisions on what/where/how before I plunked any $ down.
In terms of multiplayer and competitive racing? Absolutely right at the top, no doubt. I'm still yet to wrap my head around the physics in a way where I feel confident in the car I'm driving, but I would probably sum them up as 'delicate' since you can't just push like a madman, smoothness is greatly rewarded. Is iRacing value for money? Well, the jury is still out and my perspective is rather warped too, since some absolute hero made an *INCREDIBLY* generous donation and paid for my subscription for the year. The cars and tracks seem expensive but the quality is great all round...and I wouldn't trade the awesome experience I had at the Bathurst 12HR event for anything.
I’m curious the map and the other UI you have, can you see that in game? Or is that something you just put over the video? I’ve seen ALOT of people with completely different UI and idk how to do it but I want to!
Hey Joey 👋 I'm using a program called Simhub for the overlays and have designed this specific layout from scratch for my needs, available for download for free on my Discord server if you'd like a copy (link in the description). As for being able to see them in game, well...sort of. The overlays you see on the recording are only visible on my streaming software, but I have a much simpler version with only the basic info which I have visible as a pinned window inside my VR headset.
Please give us some insights comparing the driving from iRacing to R3E! I"m considering making the jump, but wanted to know a bit more about how different it would be.
Hey Thiago, it's *wayy* too early to say man since I've only experienced a very small fraction of what iRacing has to offer, but I'll do my best to sum up my experience so far 👍 even if it's only the MX-5. The car itself is nice to drive, if a little safe on the default setup which you'll be using for all of the rookie events. At no point did I really feel like I was in danger of losing control and I was pushing quite hard, maybe cold tyres on the outlap were a little tricky but apart from that I didn't have any issues. The menu system is very good though and lots of detail, so many options to customise your experience and graphics/controls etc...it'll take a while to get my head around it all! VR performs very well, although I still need to adjust my settings as they're not quite right yet. Compared to RaceRoom? Very very hard to say right now since, like I said, I haven't had chance to experience what iRacing has to offer. In a few months I'll have a much better idea and will put together a more comprehensive video 😉
If was anytime recently (this past week for example) then it was my Dad who's been getting around the ranked servers quite a bit 😉 I haven't had chance to fire up RaceRoom since the previous Tuesday Thunder unfortunately!
Will do 👍 although not just yet. It's far too early to make a worthwhile comparison since I'm still finding my feet in iRacing but give me a few months and I'll be able to put together something that makes a lot of sense where I actually know what I'm talking about 😉
This video makes it hard for me to choose the right SIM for me. ;-) Started SIM-racing with ACC for half a year I'm now looking to find the "right" SIM for me: ACC, RF2 or R3E ... and now one more with iRacing. *chruck* Thx Daniel. ;-)
And isn't it a wonderful position to be in 😅 with so many good choices out there! However, it would appear that iRacing can become very expensive very quickly so that's definitely worth considering if you plan on taking things seriously. In terms of being able to race people online at any time? iRacing 100%. Best value for money and allrounder? RaceRoom 100%. Best GT3/GT4 racing and immersion? ACC 100%. Best endurance and variable track condition racing? rF2 100%.
Still early days for me here Craig, so the jury is out, but the biggest difference I've noticed compared to RaceRoom is in terms of participation. In my limited iRacing experience so far there seems to be so many racers online 24/7 which means you can just sign up to these races and be guaranteed a good battle. Is it really that good in terms of physics, FFB and so on? I'll let you know in a few months 😉
Hey DDF, Is the VR good in iRacing ? I have a HP reverb 2 and a RTX 4080 graphics card and looking for a second sim racing game. ACC is what i've been playing so far
If your reference point for VR in sim racing is ACC then you're in for a treat since that is one of the least optimised titles out there for virtual reality. I've never been able to get it to run smoothly without dropping the graphics settings or pixel density much lower than the other sims I run. Although iRacing is quite well optimised, you'll be spending a lot of money on the subscription fees and then purchasing additional content too. If that's not a problem then you'll probably enjoy it and you'll certainly be kept busy if online multiplayer is your thing. That said, in terms of outright visuals and a stunningly good looking (and immersive) experience then I'd strongly recommend giving Automobilista 2 a go as well 👍
I tried a few things in editing to try and get rid of it, but they all make it look worse 😅 so I figured the best thing to do was come clean and call it out as soon as possible.
Still lots of tweaks to be done since the opportunity to do test races is rather limited, lots of lessons learned from this one though! That damn cursor, the flag/light positions, shadow settings, VR FOV etc etc the list goes on. Need to start somewhere though 😉 but glad you enjoyed it mate!
I honestly don't think there is one particular superior sim at the moment...and that's exactly the way I like it! Each different title has its own strengths and weaknesses and, as simracers, we're absolutely spoiled for choice. iRacing definitely wins out with regards to playerbase and competiion system but I'm still not sold on the driving feel. Will need to try some more cars/tracks over time but that's going to cost me quite a lot of money it would appear 😬
I absolutely adore this track. No matter what you want to race here ,from Formula E to GT3 to Cup cars ,they work. I always thought your content style would work well with iRacing and this is the proof. iR needs more upbeat/positive content around it ,the crash compilations are getting a bit stale for me. :D
The only time I'd ever driven this circuit before was in Grand Prix 2 around twenty years ago 😅 but to be fair, watching Matt Malone, Empty Box, DaveCam etc do so many races around here made it incredibly easy to jump in and know what to do in a very short time. I did enjoy Okayama, although can't imagine driving faster cars around here would be too much fun in the tight twisty bits. Ready to be proven wrong though! Also, my style is just my style and I don't plan on mixing it up any time soon 😉 what you see in my videos is who I am so hopefully I can bring a refreshing take on iRacing and avoid the negativity and toxicity that everyone seems to be warning me about.
That damn mouse! These things you only learn the hard way 😅 but it was the same with RaceRoom at the start, it took a few videos to really find my feet and nail down a good recording by trial and error.
Maybe the physics have changed since I did this race a few years back 🤔 but I generally tend to short shift and run lower gears most of the time anyway, it might cost me a little bit of time here or there but as long as the car isn't bogging down then I feel like it gives me a bit more stability through the corners. This was also back when the Mazda was H pattern instead of sequential so that was probably a factor too 👍
nicely done dan! was much better than my first race, i qualified almost dead last and was dq'd within a few laps. here's an article that goes over everything you need to know about sr and irating, hopefully it helps: boxthislap.org/an-introduction-to-the-sr-system/ looking forward to more iracing content in the future!
See, your experience in your first race was more like what I was expecting 😅 so to come out 1 for 1 was a nice surprise and a big relief actually. I doubt it'll be as straightforward once I start getting put in splits where I'm ranked in the lower half of the field... Thanks for the link too, that's awesome! I shall have a read through that and get myself familiar with how it all works 👍 cheers dude.
Can't say I'm familiar with the old web interface mate 🤔 this new UI is all I've ever known so I might have to ask you for some advice at some point if that's ok? So far so good though, iRacing is proving to be pretty good 😎
@@DDFRacer You get a better overview of comming races over the whole day using the official race guide, tried the new ui once, never to return..😅😂 The match making and thrilling battles with strangers iRacing provides is amazing, and hard to beat!💪😃👍 Also runs well in VR, and have a natural look to it. Mostly like the way the cars handle as well.👌
I know it's an older video, but what's going on with this iRacing hate? The iRacing community is not toxic at all. The only thing toxic are the haters, who can't wrap their heads around the fact that people are willing to pay for good service and the ability to race 24/7 a full grid of similar skilled people on servers that are maintained, overseen and not filled with kids who will wreck you intentionally. Every piece of content in iRacing is made to the same quality standard. There are no third party mods involved. Everything just works effortlessly without Steam! Other people pay for Netfilx, Amazon, Xbox gold, Playstation plus whatever, and buy the newest game every other month just to play it for maybe 100 hours. How is this any different? We just have different priorities. The iRacing online service costs me over a period of two years, about $25 a month. You guys really think this is to much for something that I enjoy so much and that has so many benefits for me? Grow up.
Nail on the head with this comment mate, and I'm in agreement with all of the points you make in favour of iRacing. It's an older video for sure (over three years now) and was a snapshot of my mindset heading into iRacing for the first time based on all I knew from outside the service. Do I still think of iRacing the same way? Definitely not, but I can't unmake or change what I uploaded here. Did I have some skewed perceptions based on the opinions of others? Quite likely, not sure I'd call it hate though? Genuinely sorry if I struck a nerve or offended you, that wasn't my intention, I'll have to rewatch it to see exactly what I said since it's been a long while, but I don't remember having any feelings of hate when I made this video or drove this race, quite the opposite. That's quite a strong word and should be reserved for those who make content that goes out of its way to actively trash talk and demean others without making a balanced argument or showing both sides, something I have absolutely no time for, not those who are genuinely trying something for the first time and sharing their honest opinions. The fact I'm still using iRacing (and really quite enjoying it) today should speak for itself 😉
@@DDFRacer Oh no, It wasn't directed to you. I was referring to the comments you showed at the beginning of the video. It's a common theme though, you will find iRacing haters everywhere. I enjoyed your video and your race.
Ah righto 👍 all good! Definitely need to rewatch this one then ha, feels a lot longer than three years. Currently having a blast in the Dallara P2 in a hosted series but haven't really done any officials for a while, been meaning to get back in to it but haven't found the time. Absolutely loving the new rain system too, best in any sim I've experienced so far.
if you really want to know 🤣 you're losing a ton of time braking at 100% , you want your max brake to be around maybe 80 or so, most braking in gt card is around 65%, and you trail brake through the entry to the apex. You will find a ton of time being able to brake at threashold without enabling abs and get on power at apex.
These are definitely the things I want to know and you're not the first person to mention it either 😜 so thanks for giving me the braking tips which many would consider a competitive advantage and keep secret, I appreciate it! Will play round with my pedal settings in iRacing and look at maximum inputs, brake pressure etc, to ensure I'm not triggering the ABS. In RaceRoom this doesn't seem to cost any time, but iRacing looks like an entirely different story...
@@DDFRacer it's fun to immersive but if you change to auto blip you can really focus on trail braking, your exits are good but you still have to use more of the track and gain that entry speed!! entry speed is the last place to find time but as you build your trail brake technique you will start to unlock a whole new level of speed. Good vision, weight transfer ( smooth inputs ), all contribute to maximizing grip. This is the true secret to speed! If we could say fake a grip measurement, let's say you got 600 grip units from your inputs, turn in, throttle and brake, but I found 800 grip I would be considerably faster than you. this is infact why senna was so freaking fast, he always has the car in balance and had more grip units to work with than anyone else.
btw if you went want some driving lessons in iRacing I can go over your telemetry with you and show you in a more tangible methodical way of how this all works, no pressure and definitely no price. anytime
@@DDFRacer but everyone had same car so it was already fair. But yeah your gears on the turns and shift point seem different and your in different gears than I am. I thought maybe driving wrong but then it looked like that shouldn’t be the case. I love the miata lol. But I need to get skilled with other cars like no abs etc
Oh I know 🤦♂️ I'll have to make it second nature to move that off screen in the future. All other sims don't have this problem, but just one of the quirks of iRacing it seems!
What if you get in a wreck with those socks on. Probably not illegal to drive with no shoes, but after a wreck the guy without shoes will be blamed. Trust me.
I've tried driving with shoes several times before but it honestly feels terrible to me, I lose a lot of feeling and fine control in my feet which actually makes my driving worse. I've driven in socks for years and it's what I'm used to 😉 so if I get in a wreck then it's because I made a stupid decision on track or got caught out by somebody else, not because of my footwear choices holding me back.
@@DDFRacer I sim race barefooted to keep the car weight down as little as possible. Sorry, humor is hard. Original reply was just joking. Thank you for the informative vid. Just getting into iRacing. Truth: I sim race in socks, too. I started wondering what F1 drivers wear: Well, here is the answer: ruclips.net/video/OV0jkYNw3I0/видео.html
@@anonanon7377 Ha love it 😂 those extra few grams will make all the difference! Funnily enough I tried racing barefoot as well but here in Brisbane it gets rather humid and my feet kept on sticking to the pedals or slipping right off, not ideal either 😉
Nice, but spoiler: That's the only car in iRacing which is for free and not sh*t. Every other good car in road-class costing extra and no trying before buying. A usual series is 12 weeks per season and only two of the tracks are for free, so 10 needs to be bought first if you want to participate plus the car. Even in Raceroom that's some money for beginners, but prices are different in iRacing and no special offers ever for content. If you want to take it serious outside the MX5 you need to invest some more money than you've spent for your wheel I can tell. The good thing is that winning races against lower than average sim-racers can stroke your ego. But when reaching the top-splits there are no lower than average racers anymore and everybody is fighting for every position, since half of the field will loose iRating. Safety Rating or SR is only important for getting the licenses and after it becomes less important. You only downgrade to a lower class if you end the season with SR lower than 2 or between a seasons lower than 1. Getting SR is easy: Just rev the car till the engine blows up and get repaired in the box. No incidents, full SR-gain.
I'm under no illusion that my first experience in iRacing is not going to be representative of what will follow 😅 that's for sure! The races will get *much* tougher and there will be tensions with other drivers, but I think that my experiences so far in rF2, RaceRoom and ACC have helped me develop my racecraft and mentality to a point where it shouldn't be too much of an issue. However, I'm in a fortunate enough position on the channel to be able to support a season's worth of iRacing through the revenue that is generated, so if the demand is high enough for this kind of content then the words "whatever I earn is invested straight back into my racing" have never been truer 👍
Ohhhh it's too late Raptor 😅 but don't panic, this doesn't mean the end of RaceRoom! Far from it, these iRacing videos are just going to be a little something extra sprinkled in between all of my other existing content.
Noooo no iracing...... Please stay on RR! So much a underrated game. And goddamm that monthly subscription is ugly as fuck.... So sad they do that. They could learn something from RaceRoom
Hey Cm, you have nothing to worry about 👍 iRacing *is not* replacing RaceRoom in any way whatsoever on this channel. RaceRoom is still my main sim and I will keep on doing what I already do. iRacing is just something extra I'm taking a look at as I was gifted a years worth of subscription and, to be honest, I should really be a little more familiar with it considering it's the #1 sim in terms of player numbers 😉
Dan's Tutorial:
ruclips.net/video/z3QS69n0psc/видео.html
Next is to sign up for VRS (Virtual Racing School).
Ranking up:
Basically, do exactly what you did in this race. Safety effects your license so just focus on getting as little incidents as possible. Once you leave rookie license, you will be able to see your iRating. You are still gaining & losing rating according to your finish now but you just won't be able to see it. You cannot compete above your license but you can go back down at any time to race a lower level.
Good Visual Explanation: ruclips.net/video/krG_hrr5xlo/видео.html
iRating:
It's a lot like gambling with a pool of rating. If you are car #1 in the race, you have a lot to lose if you don't finish top 3. If you are one of the highest numbered cars, you have a lot to gain. Lower finishing driver's rating is pulled from them and distributed among better finishing drivers.
Here is another visual explanation: ruclips.net/video/p3wlWGkE35A/видео.html
Anyways, glad to see you are an official iRacer now.
I shall digest all of this over the next few days and undoubtely learn a lot of very valuable things I was missing during this video.
Hopefully see you out on track some time 😉
was laughing my ass off, when you took lead I think only dogs could hear you, well done mate
Yeah, I did get a little bit excited there, didn't I? 😅
Awesome man. Well done DDF! Way to start on a high!
Cheers Stevo, not only for the congrats but also for putting me onto irFFB 👍 a game changer in the most literal sense!
Let's go ive been looking forward to this
Oh I know you have 😂 I did my 2nd race straight after this one, so hopefully should have the edit finished over the next few days.
Nice! Good for you man, well done.
Cheers Saul 🤩 not the result I was expecting but hey, I'll take it! It's all downhill from here...right?
Congrats on your first iRacing win dude! Sim racing is magic, and who knows where it can take you.
(although the mx5 races are still good fun outside rookies and super competitive)
Have paused my iracing account for a while due to lack of time, but hope to get back on it after house move in Feb as this just reminds me how good it is!
Have already got race 2 lined up, just need to finish the edit but managed to get a special guest along to spot for me 🤩
Great race! I've got my first sim rig coming this week and this helped tide me over while I wait.
Thanks Brendan 😁 this was my first ever iRacing video from last year though, I've done plenty more since then if the post decides to take a while this week 😉
Well done DDF. A great race. You drive really well. You'll be an A racer in no time.
Awesome! Great race Dan. Looks like a ton of positive feedback as well. Well done community!
Amazing. It doesn't matter how much better RaceRoom is with regards to pricing, content or physics/FFB because the unfortunate truth is that nobody is racing it then the ranked servers will never take off 😢
Welcome to iracing. Enjoy the ride. Subbed
Great minds think alike indeed James 😉 looking forward to next week's MX-5 combo, that's a fun little car I could get used to quite easily!
Just started my iracing career a few days ago as well😅 great first race and best of luck for the future races
Cheers Max, you too mate 😎 hopefully see you out on track sometime!
Congrats!
Thanking you very kindly 🤩 hopefully I can get a few more like this once I get out of rookies and my iRating starts to count...
Good to finally see you on iRacing. 👍🏾👍🏾
Once I get out of rookies there are so many series that have been recommended to me, but I know with certainty that none of them are going to go as smoothly as this 😅
@@DDFRacer Thanks a lot DDF! Your channel has exploded. I wish I had the same focus and drive to get my channel off the ground. All the best buddy! 👍🏾
Well done!!
Thanks mate 😁 🏆
Nice one Dan. You win it if you don't bin it 😊
But be cautious...iRacing wants to suck you in and keep all your time away from other sims.
Nice work DDF
I try my best 😁 race 2 coming up shortly is something you might enjoy too. JB decided to join me...
LETS GO DDF!!!
The bin hype is real!
Well done!
Cheers slipstream 😎 much appreciated!
Wait what...how are you in C class already? I thought you could only progress up a license at the end of week 12/13? 🤔
@@DDFRacer you just need to reach 4.0 SR and complete the MPR for instant upgrade. It's detailed in your Profile under Licenses. Between 3-4 upgrade at the end of season. Between 1-2 demoted
Finally! I was looking a channel like this!

It also means I can just hop on whenever I want and do a race instead of locking in a fixed time 😉
I made the same mistake for my first race 😂
Also you need to say “I’m just here for SR so yeah good luck have fun I’ll just be at the back” before every event.
@@DDFRacer Mike Epps loves it, so that's all you need to know :P
Nicely done Dan, I think i won my first race in Iracing and I think it was this combo too. It quickly went downhill from there but I was pleased nonetheless with the result.
I'd love to get into iRacing again and this might be the catalyst for me to do that... IF I CAN AFFORD IT Garghhh lol. Great vid thanks for sharing 😍😍👍
Well hopefully I can keep the momentum going but good to know I'm in decent company then eh Donk? 😉 (PS. I take no responsibility for any financial hardship you may endure due to iRacing...just thought I'd get that out the way 🤣)
@DDF Racer Nope my financial decline lays solely at your feet 😂😂👍
The key to iRacing is trail braking, braking to max is rarely fast, hit about 90% then feed off the pedal as you turn in, 1.46.266 is my best here but some folks are hitting .1.44.9. You did great for your first race mind you, much better than my first.
Thanks Gonzo, you're not the first person to suggest lighter braking to me! I'm coming from other sims where maximum input is always the quickest way to slow it down...but then again I don't think those sims model ABS correctly so that's just another thing to take into account in iRacing 👍 really appreciate the heads up!
You are one of the better Rookies I have seen well done. Just race safe and you'll be out of Rookies in no time.
@@DDFRacer join us in the FF1600 it's a blast
@@Woopass90 I do love me some USF2000/Skip Barber style cars so that doesn't sound like a bad idea at all 😉
@@DDFRacer it's a free car too
Great start!
Great ddf may start a iracing carrier too may even see you on the grid
Who knows where we'll both end up on track 😉 but maybe one day if our iRating and schedules cross over then I'll keep an eye out for you!
Welcome to IRacing, when you in D you must run with the Skip Barber its very cool.
@@DDFRacer You are wise.
Well.done congrats
Thanking you very much 😁 will be interesting to see where iRacing goes from here on the channel!
Iracing is the king now because of the new tire model ! I love the new BMW M4 GT3 Prototype :D
Hey man, awesome videos! What is the proximity indicator that you're using?
Gratz to the win! Very steady driving there. How was iRacing compared to R3E?
Yes do more iRacing.
Already have done 😉 and will continue to do so!
Nicely done! I had those same confusions in joining races when I started iracing. you don't need to leave the race practice server though. Just press the text "race" in the top right corner and it load in automatic =)
I send you a friend request right away =)
Friend request accepted! 🙌 Thanks for the advice too Captain, that one will save me a lot of hassle in the future 😉
OI-Sim's body is ready for a DDF return
When the schedule gets a little quieter, or I can quit my job and do simracing full time again (like that one month of lockdown in Brisbane earlier this year), then I'll be running straight back in your direction mate 👍 those F1 1996 races were quality, even if I was pretty terrible at it 😅
Another Finney! Greetings from a Finney in the US of A!
We're taking over 😉 one Finney at a time! Born in the UK and living in Australia for 5 years now 👍
@@DDFRacer discovered that my Finney branch came over here from England in 1690's. Take care and keep up the great content. I am just starting my sim-racing career and I leveraged your videos to help make decisions on what/where/how before I plunked any $ down.
Well done!
Where does iracing rank out of your sims now ?
I think i raced you in raceroom. and nice job.
If was anytime recently (this past week for example) then it was my Dad who's been getting around the ranked servers quite a bit 😉 I haven't had chance to fire up RaceRoom since the previous Tuesday Thunder unfortunately!
Definitely get into tradingpaints.com for custom liveries.
Thanks Chris, I'll pop that on the iRacing to-do list and check that out 👍
Thats the video i was waiting for! Please let us know how physics work compared to Raceroom!
Will do 👍 although not just yet. It's far too early to make a worthwhile comparison since I'm still finding my feet in iRacing but give me a few months and I'll be able to put together something that makes a lot of sense where I actually know what I'm talking about 😉
Turn on filter for shadow maps in the graphics options
Yeah I noticed quite a few things needed tweaking after this race but they're mostly all sorted out now 👍 those shadows were pretty horrid!
This video makes it hard for me to choose the right SIM for me. ;-)
Started SIM-racing with ACC for half a year I'm now looking to find the "right" SIM for me: ACC, RF2 or R3E ... and now one more with iRacing.
ACC 100%. Best endurance and variable track condition racing? rF2 100%.
@@DDFRacer Sure! And thx for your reply, that helps. The only thing I know: I'm a road racer. Oval, dirt or even formula is not my world.
thinking about getting it also, never played it
Still early days for me here Craig, so the jury is out, but the biggest difference I've noticed compared to RaceRoom is in terms of participation. In my limited iRacing experience so far there seems to be so many racers online 24/7 which means you can just sign up to these races and be guaranteed a good battle. Is it really that good in terms of physics, FFB and so on? I'll let you know in a few months 😉
@@DDFRacer thanks for your reply, will be watching your content as you progress through it. Good luck mate
That said, in terms of outright visuals and a stunningly good looking (and immersive) experience then I'd strongly recommend giving Automobilista 2 a go as well 👍
I kept thinking I needed to move my mouse ... even after you called it out.
I tried a few things in editing to try and get rid of it, but they all make it look worse 😅 so I figured the best thing to do was come clean and call it out as soon as possible.
Be sure to give irFFB a try for your FFB.
Cheers Danny 👍 great minds think alike, already running this plugin and it feels rather good compared to stock FFB.
Enjoyed the racing Dan, but man that's fugly in race. menu structure looks decent tho.
@@DDFRacer You can do races against AI for testing the graphics stuff
glad to see you on the superior sim 😍
I honestly don't think there is one particular superior sim at the moment...and that's exactly the way I like it! Each different title has its own strengths and weaknesses and, as simracers, we're absolutely spoiled for choice. iRacing definitely wins out with regards to playerbase and competiion system but I'm still not sold on the driving feel. Will need to try some more cars/tracks over time but that's going to cost me quite a lot of money it would appear 😬
this IS a joke fwiw , I just enjoy it the most so this is why I think it's funny
Well done Dan, good video, except of this mouse on the screen.
That damn mouse! These things you only learn the hard way 😅 but it was the same with RaceRoom at the start, it took a few videos to really find my feet and nail down a good recording by trial and error.
he ran an entire gear higher than me at every turn and still ran 1:47s
Hehehe, I hate that new UI!.. .😅
I'm using the old web interface.
Apart from that, I really like iRacing!👌
Can't say I'm familiar with the old web interface mate 🤔 this new UI is all I've ever known so I might have to ask you for some advice at some point if that's ok? So far so good though, iRacing is proving to be pretty good 😎
I'm also using the old one 🤣
@@DDFRacer You get a better overview of comming races over the whole day using the official race guide, tried the new ui once, never to return..😅😂
The match making and thrilling battles with strangers iRacing provides is amazing, and hard to beat!💪😃👍
Also runs well in VR, and have a natural look to it. Mostly like the way the cars handle as well.👌
@@captainflatspot 😁👍
If we could say fake a grip measurement, let's say you got 600 grip units from your inputs, turn in, throttle and brake, but I found 800 grip I would be considerably faster than you. this is infact why senna was so freaking fast, he always has the car in balance and had more grip units to work with than anyone else.
btw if you went want some driving lessons in iRacing I can go over your telemetry with you and show you in a more tangible methodical way of how this all works, no pressure and definitely no price. anytime
WHAT DID YOU JUST DO!?
I...I'm not sure? 👀
@@DDFRacer Pierre Gasley first win reference :)
The gear ratios are definitely different
iRacing may have changed them to be fair 🤔 I haven't used the MX5 for a long while!
!vote bin
oh wait..
Not so fast Sam 😉
XMAS IRACING[ LOL
That's right 😉 I had enough mince pies and ham sandwiches for the last few days so decided to fire up the MX-5 instead...
Argh. The curser!
Don't do it🤣🤣
Ohhhh it's too late Raptor 😅 but don't panic, this doesn't mean the end of RaceRoom! Far from it, these iRacing videos are just going to be a little something extra sprinkled in between all of my other existing content.
@@DDFRacer I just mean you are going to be bankrupt 😂
i love poo
Good to know 💩
Noooo no iracing......
@@DDFRacer thats true! You should ofcourse! 😁💪 Keep up the good work! Love your vids.
