I was playing in stardust steel band on the road that year which was my fathers band. I was 18 yrs old. I remember getting caught up in that riot and I remember how much police was there. I remember dodging the bottles by using my pan to protect me. Our band still takes part my dad has passed away so my sister runs the band and a lot of these people are still involved. Thanks for sharing this. There is not a lot of black British history out there. Keep doing what you are doing.
Importing US trends and growing up with an egotistic or constantly victimised social media mindset doesn't help. There are more people today than ever addicted to racial issues and a whole lot more
The police like playing this game. The carnival organiser meet with the council and police before the event to discuss the route etc then on the day they claim they have to lock off vendors/sound systems etc. SMH
Goodness! I left Grove years back. Used to play pan and this carnival was my last panorama (played with Mangrove). I always wondered what happened to Netifa! I am sorry to hear she passed😩
I was there that day with my girlfriend Colleen. We had a great day apart from the police trying to provoke some people (one policeman in particular was eye balling me) Maybe he thought i was cute or something.🤣
They need to learn manners instead of acting as though they are in a tribal village , straw huts and dirt floors. This is not the standard in an English city. Coming up to 2023 you can see it’s deteriorating even more.

It’s so weird watching this because it’s like we have gone full circle and are at this same place now in society . Two steps forward three steps back
after Brexit - for sure √√√

This has opened my eyes to today's crimes. The police instigate it all, as a younger person I see these elders dealing with the police.
I was there
