Uh is a "conservative" just suppose to protect and conserve whatever the status quo is? I certainly dont think so, maybe im wrong.

I agree. This might sound stupid or crazy, but there is a very strong case to be made that left and right wing aren't real in the first place.
A fantastic book called The Myth of Left and Right came out last year making the case. Self described conservatives in the US right now are the furthest thing from unthinking defenders of the stats quo. They/we want to close entire federal government departments and change border policies among others.

I totally agree with Richard. The 'order theory' does not hold much water. Appreciation for freedom would be a far better predictor. And 'It was better in the past' is a natural reaction to a current rule that claims to be without alternatives. You only cast away all references to the past if you try to express your utter and complete consent to anybody who holds power at a given moment.

I am guessing you don't read any of the comments on these videos Richard, and that is very wise if true, but just in case you don't, I think at least a handful of your poignant push backs were very perceptive.
It made me think you should consider reading a book that came out last year called The Myth of Left and Right. Some of what you said was consistent with its thesis.

Listen to On the cusp of a new era? | McKinsey "...The unnerving combination of a global pandemic compounded by energy scarcity, rapid inflation, and geopolitical tensions boiling over has people wondering what certainties are left. Today’s events might even feel like a cluster of earthquakes that is reshaping our world. The global landscape changing over a few years - with a new era happening NOW. Work out how to respond using a framework."
