In this clip, Smokey Robinson talked about his fallout with Marvin Gaye over Marvin’s drug use. Despite admitting to partaking in some of the consumption of drugs, Smokey said that Marvin went overboard and kicked him out of his house after refusing to loan him money for more drugs.

Marvin's life towards the end was so sad, so tragic. He was such a tender soul. The world and its devils and darkness preyed on him because they saw a beautiful man and heart. Its painful to think of. Just listen to his music though. He remains alive forever in his perfect form there

@Sammy Actually Marvin didn't beg to move in. He ostensibly moved in to help his mother who was struggling with a major health issue. IIRC it was a cancer of some kind. Of course Marvin was sick too what with the paranoia and drugs.
There's a credible theory (and one I ascribe to as well) that Marvin INTENTIONALLY provoked his father into killing him. It was a two fold thing, 1) To punish his father for all the abuse he suffered through by making him kill his own son and 2) to end the suffering he (Marvin Jr.) was going through in his own life.

Just recently discovered that Marvin Gaye had a child with Berry Gordy’s niece, who was a minor. I’m from Detroit, Marvin and David Ruffin used to be straight up in the hood buying drugs like normal people. You can hear the pain in Marvin’s music. Crazy life.
Berry Corey's niece had the baby. Marvin and his wife adopted him.
Marvin Gaye III was born to a 16 year old Denise Gordy and Marvin and his then-wife Anna adopted him after he was born. I highly doubt that he was Marvin Gaye’s biological son though… They have no resemblance whatsoever while his other two children, Nona and Frankie, actually do look like him on the other hand.

This story made me laugh lol but also sad at the same time because of Marvin's life. Man I miss him everyday, I time travelled with his career, been a fan of his since the 60s, was of the age to fully experience his two most acclaimed work of the early 70s, saw him live 3 times (the female fans gave me a headache that day) but man, glad to see his legacy still lives on.

I met Smokey Robinson back in 2002 at a hotel where I used to work at. He was very nice and courteous. Been a fan since I was a small child.

I remember as kids on weekends my Dad would take my siblings & I to play at Bell Isle Park in Downtown Detroit, MI. Afterwards we would get snacks & cruise the Summer Day away. Before heading home my Dad would drive us through these Beautiful neighborhoods that I didn’t think existed in our City. Palmer Park if I’m not mistaken. It was Manicured Lawns with sprinklers & had ranch style homes a half a block long. There was homes that looked like small Castles. The cars were all new & Dad would slowly pull up to this beautiful Ranch style Home & say “Here’s Smoky Robinson’s House. What! Now as we pull off another car slows to a stop & does the same. Smoky was a Huge inspiration to us all in the City. Just maybe, Just maybe we can make it out too.

Many times they have a lie in front like they want the money to pay the rent or electric bill. I said to the addict who asked me to give me the letter and I will mail the check. Then she got mad. TS.
There’s a documentary on yt about Marvin. Dude grew in a strict Christian home but his father was a cross dresser and would come to the kitchen table dressed as a woman. I know that had to confuse the hell out of him.

I saw Smokey in concert a year ago. Fantastic performer, beautiful eyes and still a ladies man!!!! We all lost it when he started singing Tracks of My Tears.
Marvin's time in Hawaii was the worst depressive state in his life before he found solace in Belgium with Freddy Cousaert (sp) I'm glad that Smokey and Marvin were still friends later in the '80s before he died though. Sadly the demons would come back and be even WORSE after his Midnight Love tour.
That was a pretty funny anecdote from Smokey but sad too. Smokey is a very transparent and real guy. You know you're getting the absolute truth from his perspective when he's talking.

No wonder Marvin sounded so convincing on the track "Trouble Man",,, Looks like the eyeliner is irritating SR's eyes in this video. He doesn't need all that shit, just be the legend you are. He is also engaged in the classic "defense mode" with arms crossed so he likely did not feel all that comfortable doing this type of no holds barred interview. I saw him perform live twice, once at The Roxy (some drunk kept yelling for him to sing "I Gotta Dance to Keep From Crying" during the show there), and once at the Hollywood Bowl (in which he proved he has a great sense of humor). Will always love Smokey, and The Miracles as well, and Marvin remains my fave soul singer to this day.
For some people the arms folded thing is just a resting posture, especially considering he's a senior citizen of slim build in the winter time. Notice he's slightly reclined and occasionally smiling and chuckling
